From loteria wallets and purses, to jack fruit, to purple carrots, manuka honey (for half the price of HEB!), and to bundles of sage and essential oils for your curanderismo practices, Valley Star Fruits & More is an eclectic, friendly place where you can find almost any special or quirky ingredient you might need. One thing I was excited to find that I still have not been able to locate in San Antonio is black salt. I was ecstatic to finally see it, though I skipped out on purchasing it this time around. (Want is a different story) The produce is fresh but sometimes borders on the side of overripe depending on what you catch a whiff of. I didn't see a meat butcher shop, just the fish monger section. That's a bummer, but there is still an adequate selection of meats. It's not a bad HEB per se, it gets the job done for the folks who live in this small town. My first visit I observed no self checkout lines open, ok I'm good with that. Same thing on my second visit. Here is what gets me, both times I had young male cashiers and they seemed as if I was bothering them coming through their line. The first time, he was still with the customer before me, he never made eye contact or addressed them or myself. Second visit, same thing, no eye contact or acknowledgment that I was there. He was discussing lunch plans at McDonald with a coworker. I am in outside sales, customer service is very important, people like to be acknowledged. This Walmart may need to have some additional training on service and social skills.

It was 4:50 pm when they finally told me they don't do walk-ins because it was too late. They only do appointments after a certain hour. I ended up going to another Walmart and they took me in saying yes they still do walk-ins and that it was still early enough for them to do oil change for me instead of the way I was treated at Walmart on Ruben Torres Blvd.
