Absolute worst place to get your taxes done not just in Eagle County, but probably in the entire country if not the world.
Fred was doing my taxes in 2019 and I had some business deductions I needed to write off due to a lawsuit I won. Fred told me that we needed to wait until 2020 because it would be a 2019 event. I waited a year, and even cancelled an appointment with a tax preparer in a different state because Fred promised to properly itemize the deductions.
it appears that Fred just wanted to get me off his back and collect my fee in 2019, because come 2020, he said he can't write off the deductions. I escalate it to the franchisor, a man (criminal) named Michael Valentine, and I share with him the tax fraud that has occurred with the lawsuit. Everything is fine at first, we are just having some disagreements about how to itemize the deductions, then when I say I am going to go with someone else, Michael goes Used Car Salesmen on me and tries the takeaway close and says I HAVE TO tell a new tax preparer what I have told him.
Sorry Mikey Boy, but I don't have to do anything, except file my taxes, die, and sleep with your wife before you come home from work, because those are the only 3 guarantees in this world. I tell him I want to go with someone else, but I don't feel that Fred has been overly malicious in his dealings, so I'd like to make it work, so then he goes from saying "you have to tell a new preparer what I've told you" to saying "I'll never let anyone in any of my offices (acting like he's all big and bad because he owns HR block franchises in the posh Colorado mountain resort towns) do my taxes. I then demand that he give me back my documents, which include EXTREMELY sensitive bank account information and legal documents, and he refuses to do so. He then calls the police on me, I call the police on him, and I ask him to cease and desist because the only reason I did my taxes with them is because of their overly aggressive and overly soliciting marketing campaigns where they BEGGED ME to let them do my taxes over numerous years.
Mr. Valentine still has my documents, claimed that they were sent electronically so he cannot return them to me, and as of this writing, he has violated the police's request to return them to me.
If this is the kind of office you want to do your taxes with, people that make you feel stupid, get 95% of the way done, people who you tell about tax fraud to and they say without saying "we don't care, not our problem" and people that keep your incredibly sensitive personal financial and legal documents, by all means.
Oh yeah, and last but CERTAINLY not least, when I asked Mr. Valentine to speak to his supervisor, he told me, "Jeff Jones." When I called the office to speak to him, the girl on the phone whose English was fair but not great said "I have never heard of this person." I later found out that Jeff Jones is the CEO of HR Block and that, obviously, he does not take phone calls from individual clients. The franchisor told me in the craziest and most psychotic way possible to call the CEO of the company and just basically tried to get me to leave him alone, when really its his companies marketing and soliciting tactics that are how I even found him in the first place.
Go ahead Mr. Valentine, if you want to sue me for this, be my guest, but its 1st amendment free speech protected, kind of like everything you said to me in all of your emails that was incredibly rude and disrespectful
