My husband was part of a family business and his father used D'Archangelo & Associates,…read morespecifically Allison Greco, to handle the business finances and taxes. When we were looking for a new CPA firm to handle our personal taxes, I reached out to D'Archangelo & Associates and explained our situation. Turns out that my conversation was with Allison's daughter, Alex Montana. She explained that it would be beneficial for us to have our taxes done under the same firm because we would have access to more accurate information regarding the business' status and financials and there would be regular meetings throughout the year, not just at tax time, so we could adjust things accordingly. Based on this, we decided to work with Alex and D'Archangelo & Associates. Unfortunately, this was untrue and regular meetings to discuss the business never happened. The trouble really began in the second year, during the sale process of the family business, my husband and his brother (both with 40% ownership - majority shareholders), were trying to get more information, asking a lot of questions and wanting to see financial forms/figures for themselves. We were either given conflicting information, told they would need their father's permission for the information requested, or not given the information at all. Since Alex wasn't privy to the business tax info, she would tell us to email Allison. However, when we would email Allison, Alex would typically respond to convey the answers from Allison instead of Allison answering herself. In fact, Allison only answered two of our emails...in the one, there was a definite tone expressed in the explanation and in the other email, there was just an attachment, nothing in the body. We felt like preference or loyalty was given to my husband's father/business account, over our account and tax needs/requests. In an effort to get the information we were looking for, there were several phone conversations/emails with Alex where we asked to have a meeting amongst all involved to openly discuss the business figures, details of the sale, and how it would impact our personal taxes. While these requests were always met with promises that a meeting would be scheduled in the next few weeks - a meeting never happened! In addition, numerous follow-up emails inquiring about updates or answers to other questions we had were ignored and never answered. The last straw was when we were instructed to pay an OBSCENE amount in estimated taxes, and even though we questioned this amount a few times, we were assured that the figures were accurate based on the projection they performed. Well, it turns out that that was wrong, and we received the entire amount back as a refund! Instead of being apologetic or expressing any type of regret, Alex flatly stated that their "projection was off" and that "long story short, you're ending up with large refunds due to this." So, we paid a HUGE sum of money we shouldn't have AND we lost a significant amount we could've made in interest, had it been left in our account! We WILL NOT be using Alex/D'Archangelo & Associates for a third year. We lost confidence and trust in them due to their lack of communication, unprofessional conduct, and incompetence.
