Would not recommend them. Had a return prepared where there were only two entries on the 1099 I received. One of the entries was not entered into the return by the tax preparer at H + R, resulting in numerous unsuccessful calls to IRS, amended return, state penalty (which, to their credit, they offered to pay). Now I'm trying to get another person to help me with 2024 return. I showed up for scheduled appt and they said they couldn't do my return, had to use someone at other office. That person won't return phone calls or email. I've paid significant money for preparation of past returns, you'd think they would return a call or an email. Uniformly bad experience with both offices. Needless to say, I will go elsewhere or prepare myself. read more

We dropped our taxes off to Eddie Martinez on June 18th for the July 15th deadline. Didn't hear anything. He was out of town during part of that time. July 7th I asked for an appointment. July 8th he said he would look at them and get in touch with me by the end of the week, July 11th. I heard from him the next week, on the 13th. On the 14th he told me he didn't have time to do them. I called the front desk and tried to make an appointment for 3:00 but never heard back. I got an email back from him at 8:41pm on the 14th, saying he would try to put an extension together, which I didn't see until the following morning. Called several times on the 15th; never could get through, receptionists no help. Finally went by the office at 4:00pm and picked up my folder and did the extension myself, since no one would do anything about it. Will never go back. read more

There's a reason why you need to get the optional insurance at H & R Block... For the past two years they essentially double-taxed me. I went to a certified CPA this year after the Blockheads did my taxes and realized that. I took my findings back to H & R Block and the corrections were made and I ended up with $760 bucks back, and a coupon to have my taxes done for free next year... Which will most likely be the last year I use them ever again. So they made good on their insurance, but I still feel slightly peeved because it took Block two weeks to iron out their mistakes... read more

Less than professional organization. Patsy failed to enter all income into tax forms. When I discovered the mistake and called her on it she suggested that I did not give her appropriate documentation. VERY NOT TRUE. To top things off Monica claims she did not receive my snail mail concerning the situation and it seems to be acceptable with her that it is okay that she does not receive her mail. She claims it is a Santa Fe thing. Funny, but as a business partner I expect my partners to preform at the highest level including the post office. Monica appears not to believe in excellence by either her employees or business partners. With that kind of attitude how can she and her organization do the best for you? CAN'T! read more

I have used both H@R Block offices in Santa Fe for my taxes for a number of years. The office on Cerrillos Road did my 2018 taxes last year, it took about 15 minutes to do as I have very few documents. This year, I took my documents into the office, I was told the person who had done my taxes last year was not longer at that office. So I was asked to leave my Documents at the front desk. I filled out a form with BOTH my phone number and my e-mail address so that I could be notified when my taxes were ready to pick up. After about a week, I contacted customer service and was told that someone would call me at 4:45 that afternoon. No one called. No one from that office has left a voice message nor an e-mail message. Today I went back to the Cerrillos road office to get my documents so that I could complete my filing of taxes. The manager returned only the original 2019 forms I got from the government. She did not return my 2018 tax information that I had given the office. She told me that my phone does not take voice messages, opened the door, and told me to leave. When I called the office later, to ask for the documents not give back to me, I was told to come into the office to get them. When I asked for verification that the office still had the documents I had brought in, I was told I need to come in quickly because the manager is busy shredding any of my documentation in thier office. read more

Problems continue- have been on the phone with NM Taxation and Revenue trying to sort out not only the state taxes that the folks @ this H&R Block botched, but trying to get the $199 penalty removed. When we went to H&R Block to see if they would be accountable for their mistakes with our taxes, Eddie Martinez told us that they'd give us a discount to do our 2019 taxes for us. Why I went back to H&R Block this year, I will never know. Last year they lost or failed to notice one of my tax documents, causing me to owe almost $800. This year was another disaster. About halfway through my taxes, I was informed that because I had a 1099, it would cost almost $300 extra for them to do my taxes. When I tried to back out and go elsewhere, the manager said that I had already signed something saying I agreed to continue on with the tax preparation and if I left right then, they would charge me anyway. DO NOT USE H&R BLOCK!! Luisa, who actually prepared my taxes was quite nice, but clammed up completely once the manger showed up. read more

I give them 2 stars only because the man who did my taxes (Jeb) was very concientious. My problem is that I had a time sensitive issue that I needed to respond to the IRS regarding a problem in my 2012 taxes which H & R Block had done, in a timely manner. Spoke with the person who writes IRS letters (Monica) BEFORE she went on vacation. She said, "Oh, no problem I will take care of that when I come back on July 11." I went ahead and wrote the response myself and just needed to ask her a few questions totaling less than 5 minutes of her time. Left messages when she returned to work and did not call me back. I called again, and she was quite rude in spite of the fact I told her I just needed a few minutes of her time to look over what I had put together. rude, rude and more rude, but I am not to be put off.... called again and she told me "I HAVE EXACTLY 2 MINUTES." Okay, it took about 2 minutes of Miss S.....'s valuable time as I am quite organized. She really needs to be fired and if I could help that in any way, including going to her boss, I would. I will NEVER have these people do my taxes again... exhorbitant fees, sub par performance, and God help you if you ever have a problem. I went to a REAL accountant and paid him to look over what I had done, (which he approved of) and got my letter in the mail just on time to get it to the IRS on time. Can't wait until next year when they bug me on the phone to make an appointment for my 2014 taxes. I WILL give the caller an earful they won't soon forget. Their was simply NO REASON for this woman to behave in this manner. read more

WARNING ! Do NOT go to this particular H & R Block in Santa Fe. I have been going to H & R Block for years in NYC and L.A. and they were just what I needed - quick, simple, easy, cheap. Then I went to the H & R Block in Santa Fe and immediately felt like I'd walked onto a used car lot. I guess the H & R Blocks are franchizes because the woman I delt with told me (very proudly) that she was the owner. I expected the same service I've always gotten but, instead, I spent an hour with this very disturbed woman who told me I needed to sign over Power of Attorney to them to research my past income (I had my W-2's with me at the time). Then she said it would take two weeks and she didn't know how much it would cost until everything was finished. At that point, I'd have no choice but to pay. I knew this whole thing felt wrong but I was desperate and in a hurry so I just went along with her. Well... more than three weeks go by and I hear nothing from them. I finally call and ask what's going on and the same woman (I recognized her voice), told me she didn't know what I was talking about and she had to do some "research" and call me back. She called me back and immediately started berating me - that's when I knew I was dealing with someone unstable. I told her that I thought she was being very unprofessional and that this was not the experience I'd had at other H & R Blocks. She then said, "How DARE you insult me in this way!" It was CRAZY! I was actually afraid of her, and still am. She seems like the kind of person who would take revenge on me because she's so angry and irrational. I just pray she doesn't do anything wacky. I asked her to leave my W-2's at the front desk so I don't have to talk to her or see her. Since she's like the only person in the office though, it's going to be tough. I think I'll send someone else in there to pick them up. Anyway, let my experince be a warning, please. Don't get tangled up with this woman. There are other H & R Blocks that are fine - at least in the cities. Avoid the Santa Fe offices if you value your life! I'm thinking of reporting her to some kind of Better Business Bureau - if such a thing exists here. That's how afraid of her I am. read more
