Paramount Tax & Accounting - Manhattan

Working with Paramount has been a complete nightmare almost from the start. Here's the story…read more We had to file for an extension due to my new son's BC and SSN taking a long time to show up. Things were fine until then. I sent his number in on May 29 and received a quick reply that she'd get things rolling. Great. For two weeks I checked the IRS and KS checked my refund system with both saying they had no info on my return and it probably hadn't been received. I emailed Heather on June 17 asking if there was a reason for this. I received no reply for a week. At this point I was beginning to be seriously concerned that I'd been scammed and she'd just been waiting for the last SSN to complete the identity theft. I'd already paid the bill as well. I called her office and, no matter the time of day, kept getting a "user busy" message. I texted her. No reply. I left a voicemail, no reply. I stopped by her office during work hours on multiple days in the morning and afternoon. The office was always locked with the lights out. I emailed her a far more terse message than I'm used to writing. I emailed the Paramount Corporate office to make sure she was real and to voice my concerns. I also realized she still had the hard copies of all our tax info from this and the previous year and there had been no effort to return them, another red flag. I was about 12 hours away from contacting a lawyer and discussing options, and my family was urging me to do so. Finally, that night I got a call. The company had forgotten to file them. Instead of seeing the email, and immediately sending an apology, I got ghosted for a week. Keep in mind, this isn't peak tax season. It's mid June now. Whatever, so they file it. As long as I get my refund, it's all fine. I'd probably use someone else next year, but I wouldn't be writing a multi-paragraph diatribe. I the look through the itemized bill and realize that they haven't filed the federal adoption or K47 adoption tax form. This is the form I have to hire people for. This is the form I stated emphatically and repeatedly in my original questionnaire that I needed done and if I didn't have it, I'd just do the taxes myself. I was assured it would get done and that a rock-solid "triple check" system was in place to catch even the slightest error and that if I just put that concern in it would be as good as done. These forms were on my previous year's tax return! Even if nobody read the note, did they not look at my previous return and wonder why a form that was on it wasn't on this one?! They noticed with the student loan forms! So we have to file an amended return with the feds and state. That was June 25. It is now September 24 and I still haven't received my federal refund (the state one did arrive.) The tracker says it was completed and I should have received a notice or refund about a month ago. Now this isn't her fault, but what is her fault is that I emailed her two weeks ago asking if she could check in on this, as I wasn't able to get anywhere with the IRS automated phone system. Maybe she couldn't either, but I don't know that because I haven't heard back. I'm being ghosted again. So I researched and found a form that can be filed for the tracking of a missing refund. It has been filled out and mailed in, something you'd think a person whose mistakes caused all this could do, but no, I ended up doing it. Will I ever get it? Who knows. Now, to the social media or whatever team at Paramount writing responses to people's reviews. You're probably getting ready to write about how "we're very sorry to hear about your negative experience" and how "we always set a very high quality bar for ourselves." Save it. I'm not interested. If you have any real shame about this, you can refund me the $536.35 that I paid to still be worrying about my individual tax return at the end of September. And if the IRS isn't feeling generous and my trace is declined or unresolved, you can also refund me the $1600 that I'm still missing. If you do either of these things, I will amend the review, if possible, to note your response and offer my thanks. EDIT and UPDATE: I have changed some wording to amend some misremembered timelines and to reflect the fact that the errors were spread across multiple employees at the company and not just Heather. The errors are the same but I did not know there were others involved until yesterday. I know this now because I got a very long communication from one of the legal advisors for the company in response to my one star Google review. They have offered to help find out where the refund is, provided I sign something, but I've already filed a 3911, so I'm not sure what they can do.
