Please, please, please never use this place. The reviews are all true. I thought: "How bad you they be?" And the answer was, exactly that. My tax pro was supposed to be specialized in the area that I needed help in. But he made an error on my tax return. My dad told him that the information he was giving didn't sound right, but the man was sure. An hour later, we checked and the tax pro gave me faulty information. And I had to go back to them and get the documents fixed. It has taken over a week and dooooozens of calls to get it fixed and I'm still not done. Such a headache. Additionally, warning: if you have a documents drawn up with a phone appointment (as I had to do after the first guy made an error on my documents), then they will not let you see these documents on the online portal until you PAY and SIGN. Which seems really shifty. They will not upload the documents section for you to view in the portal and you can ONLY see them by signing FIRST and paying. Soooo sketch! I was told that if I wanted to verify these documents (drawn up over the phone) for errors before signing, I could make an appointment with the office and view them there on their screen. -_- Also, there is no IT support on their website if you need help. And if you want to call the store, no one ever answers. You get brought to a call center, wait forever, and get scheduled to speak to someone at the store. Omg So annoying! Edit: I just looked it up, and what's they're doing by not letting you see the tax return until after you pay and sign when you do you do your tax return over the phone IS illegal. Absolutely not responsive. We filed separately this year and we have no idea if you even did any work on her file. My wife has been trying to reach her tax professional for weeks to learn about the status of her filing, and the last two weeks to find out if an extension was filed. No one has replied. She left three messages in the last week on your open days. She has left several messages over the last several weeks. They always take her name, always take her message, and no one ever calls back. She has not had a single update or confirmation since her first appointment. This is unprofessional and impacting someone's life. What is going on? read more

this place right here is a scam!! I took my 2022 tax's in and they charge me $500! When I went back to pay it!! the person who, prepared my tax's, double charged my income! The Manager saw the errors and correct it! then charging me additional $22 for someone else's by lowering my tax's. Which was the original amount of my earnings. Then he had me sign an affidavit, so I wouldn't sue H&R Block! How evil is this is!!!! I will be contacting the IRS. read more

Normally you don't look forward to doing your taxes - at least I don't! I'm one of those people whose heart beats faster and pulse races with anxiety when it comes to taxes and all things Maths - but this H & R block is made of awesome! From the nice people who answer the phones to arrange an appointment, to being greeted by Carol at the office & given a cold bottle of water (taxes are thirsty business!) to the super tax professional Jenny Larsson who got my taxes not just done but won! Whew! What a relief! AND I'm getting a few bucks back, so YAY! With this outstanding level of professional and friendly service maybe I won't dread doing my taxes every year!? I called 4/12/22 for the first time and was able to get an appt for 12 PM 4/16/22. I know, last minute, but unavoidable. I get there at 11:45 and Brianna (receptionist) says my appt was for 12:30 PM. I know that's wrong, but I sit and wait for 45 mins. I see 4-5 other people walk in after me and are send back within minutes. So at 12:30, my preparer calls another client back and tells me it'll be at least another 30 minutes. So I go and ask Brianna if she can do anything to get me in with a different preparer. She's trying (she's the only one I dealt with who has a clue how to treat the client... and she's a temp!) but I'm still waiting 20 mins later. Now I learn that when you set an appt, you're getting an appt with a specific preparer. Mine was running behind (because she was a rookie and had to constantly stop and ask another preparer questions) and I did not have an option to just see whichever preparer finishes next. The system sucks. I had an appt; I should be seen by whoever was available next. So I waited 75 mins, was finally taken back by this rookie, she screws everything up. I actually had to leave and come back the next day and have Kenneth Williams fix everything. Then I get charged $330 for some very basic tax forms. I reprinted this review because I was back there today because I rec'd a notice from the IRS that my taxes were all wrong. Turns out I'm NOT getting $2731 back. Turns out I actually owe another $71. I made an appt for noon. I got there just as the sole employee got there. The place was sweltering and he didn't know how to turn on the A/C. He couldn't get his computer working. I spent 40 miserable minutes there listening to him talk to his tech support in between him answering the phones and dealing with other customers who walked in. I called another branch and resched'd an appt for Mon. I came here to update my original review and saw that Sara N. had responded, asking me to call a number so she could "make it right." I t's another lie. A guy answered and asked if I was calling for an appt. I explained why I was calling and he never heard of Sara N. My husband had a HORRIBLE experience today. He made an appointment for help with his small business taxes. He got there and there was no verification of his appointment. His "advisor" gave him a piece of paper, said he couldn't help him. He wouldn't even look at what my husband brought and spoke over him every time he tried to explain. He told my husband to do his taxes at home and "good luck, because you are going to need it". Is that not what we made the appointment for? FOR HELP?! After getting my taxes done with a professional for years, I had to come to h&r block in Columbia, MD Dobbin rd. due to my last accountant building issues/WiFi outages. Kenneth Williams was the worst I have ever worked with. He didn't even ask for my last year's 2020 tax returns to compare until I asked him would he like to see a copy of it to see where he was off. He did not itemize anything, he did not ask any questions and just entered numbers and was done in 5 minutes until I questioned him. I had to tell him I worked in education to get the line item discount I always have for 14 yrs, as he tried to discredit my profession and not understanding my job in itself. He literally had to break out his tax book to read to comprehend what I was saying. Then he had an attitude when I also mentioned I had receipts for a side business I have had for over 3 years. He made 3 errors I had to call him out on, then has the nerves to charge me $275 for the lousy work he did. And at the end of it all, he didn't print the correct document out of what I owed. If I had not reviewed it, I would have sent in the wrong information to the IRS. Don't go to this location, it was absolutely the worst. They charge you by the tax forms you turn in -- you're better off using TurboTax than going here. On a scale of 10, they get zero. Ask them what a charge of a "complex income tax" is. Again another screw up by H& R block, they said they set me up an appt at the Forte Meade, MD location on Friday 14 Aug at 0900, place not even open, called the main H&R block phone number said they will report and someone will follow up with me that day for this unfulfilled appt, and like usual no one calls back. H&R block been the worse experience I have ever had with any tax service, these canned replys from some H&R representative on this yelp, Sarah N is worthless and H&R block has no way or desire to rectify any issues. I am sure it is a computer generated automatic reply. This office, Dobbins shopping center in Columbia MD. is awful and should be avoided!!! The first tax preparer I dealt with seemed completely confused and over her head with the nature of my return. This was annoying as I informed the scheduler to set me up with a well seasoned, knowledgeable tax preparer as my return is complex. I was given inaccurate information, not informed of deductions I am eligible for, made to provide documents that I never had to before, and was treated as if I was lying and my concerns were ignored. When I complained, my case was forwarded to a more "seasoned preparer" who repeated the same thing I was told earlier. He refused to listen to what I was telling him, also made me feel like I was lying about my expenses and was very rude and very arrogant. He had no desire to try to get me the best return possible and refused to listen or answer my questions. What a complete waste of my time....these people are extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, and incompetent!!! I would give them a minus star if I could. read more

Place has gone downhill recently. I got my taxes done here for the 2017-2019 tax years but I don't think I'll be back anymore. The first two years went great but my tax preparer for the 2019 year was extremely careless and uninformed about the tax laws. The wrong address was put down for where I lived in 2019. I caught the issue myself and had to get things redone. Then my tax preparer told me that my state refund would not be affected because the tax rates for the address that was mistakenly put down and the address where I actually lived were the same. Turns out they weren't the same and the refund I was given by the state was hundreds of dollars more than it should have been. I also had to catch this problem myself and get it corrected. I had already received my state refund so now I'm dealing with with owing the state hundreds of dollars. Giving this place the second and third stars because of the good experiences I had for the 2017 and 2018 tax years. read more

I saw the posting a few days before my late taxes were due and the review Sold me!~ What I realized when i came out is the Review reflected the person and not the name of the company for it is the person who does the configuring and in my case i came up short. Two things happened to my tax report. One is that the gentleman i saw showed me that he was putting the check i just wrote to the state of Md and how it was going to be immediately taken out of my bank account and put into their bank accounts of H&R Block. I am fortunate he was boasting of the way they turn around money but i caught the error immediately for my check of xx amount had to be sent to the State of Md. was being put into H&R Block account. i pointed this out to him and did not. Then i got my tax return only to find out a big error in his calculations came up and now i owe the Feds more. What happens next? not going back for sure to this operation again. My H&R Block agent, Ms. Shufen Chu, did a fantastic job of sorting through my disjointed set of documents and researching a couple of in-depth questions related to a rental property and daughter's college expenses. Although she works only 3 days/week, she went the extra mile by contacting me on her day off to arrange for a Sunday aft. meeting to finalize my return ahead of a promotional deadline. I found her to be competent and extremely well prepared during the 2.5 hours she spent explaining my 2017 return and helping me prep for 2018. She is a credit to her profession.
