In fact, the Vignes Centenaires de Minière was sold out except for magnums but we liked it so much we got 2! The Bourgueil reds wines are mostly Cab Franc but they also had a Cabernet Sauvignon and another variety we did not try. We could definitely tell the difference with those aged in steel and those via oak barrel and there was also a very noticeable and interesting difference from the sand / clay / limestone soil content as well as the age of the vines producing the grapes.....all seems very basic but when we could taste all these nuances at the same time from the same wine producer, it was amazing We selected bottles of the Racines and the Eclipse to take back home with us and if you prefer, they can also ship to the US

Friendly welcome and a "free form" tasting, where we learned about the local grapes and wine varietals, how they're aged (if aged) and when and with what they are enjoyed by the locals. We also learned about the methods of production --strictly natural -- and had a wonderful tasting of both the local cremant (bubbly) and flat wines. As much as you're willing to learn and taste, that's what you'll get if you go when it happens to be a quiet day, as it was when we visited. The wines were delicious and tasted of the pure, rich terroir of the Saumur region...Filliatre is à ne pas manquer, if you're in the area.

Pick a place to sit outside and enjoy the peaceful street and view of the fort. You may also run into a black and white cat sleeping on either one of the chairs or on the speaker - wherever the cushion is! Everything is so fresh here and the owner explains everything. He is also knowledgeable about wines and gave us great recommendations. The owner was also super friendly which I appreciated a lot. Btw this place was recommended by a worker at a wine shop in Paris saying his best friend who lives here loves this shop. Never go wrong with getting tips from the locals!
