The Bourgueil reds wines are mostly Cab Franc but they also had a Cabernet Sauvignon and another variety we did not try. We could definitely tell the difference with those aged in steel and those via oak barrel and there was also a very noticeable and interesting difference from the sand / clay / limestone soil content as well as the age of the vines producing the grapes.....all seems very basic but when we could taste all these nuances at the same time from the same wine producer, it was amazing We selected bottles of the Racines and the Eclipse to take back home with us and if you prefer, they can also ship to the US

We had an experience très sympa at the tasting room at Grande Vignolle off of the D947 in the…read morelovely and pleasant Tourquant cliffside location. Friendly welcome and a "free form" tasting, where we learned about the local grapes and wine varietals, how they're aged (if aged) and when and with what they are enjoyed by the locals. We also learned about the methods of production --strictly natural -- and had a wonderful tasting of both the local cremant (bubbly) and flat wines. As much as you're willing to learn and taste, that's what you'll get if you go when it happens to be a quiet day, as it was when we visited. The wines were delicious and tasted of the pure, rich terroir of the Saumur region...Filliatre is à ne pas manquer, if you're in the area.
