After reading the reviews I'd decided that this would be my first restaurant experience in…read moreHelsinki! Upon arrival, I noticed that that there were a lot of other single diners who had been placed at the same table. So imagine a table full of people, but no one is talking. Weird. Anyway, the waitress was so nice and sweet! She greeted me in Finnish, but then switched to English when she saw the blank stare on my face. I ordered the combo plate which in California would normally cost about $5 cost the equivalent of $16!!! Crazy, right?! Such was life in Helsinki, super expensive! Anyway, my meal included small, but tasty, portions of sweet an sour chicken, fried prawns, beef and curry chicken. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! I had a pleasant experience, I would highly recommend it.

Before ordering I was asked what I would like to drink. I replied, "Nothing. I don't want anything…read moreto drink." I was then promptly poured a glass of water which I was charged for. These dishonest surprise charges are unacceptable and completely ridiculous. Customers should not be forced to purchase tap water if they do not want to! This is a trashy and dishonest way to conduct business. New Bamboo Center, you can do better. Helsinki, you must demand better. In slightly related news, I was forced to pay for my take-away box, but only if I didn't want to carry my leftovers home in my pocket, so I guess that extra charge was ultimately my choice.

This was a happy surprise during our long journey in Europe!…read more It is near end of August, and Helsinki is already at chilling 10 degree C at night (I know it's not cold for the locals, but for people from Taiwan and California, it is already cold!) My family was very tired after 2 weeks of traveling in Europe, and we are staying at the very nice apartment hotel Aallonkoti, about 2 minutes away from the restaurant. My mother missed Asian cooking very much, so I decided to give this Chinese restaurant a try when I walked by. The restaurant seems to serve buffet as a dining-in option, but I went for the a la carte option anyways, because that's how Chinese people like to order :p I ordered stir fried green leafy veggies (not the mixed ones), a tofu dish, veggie fried noodles, chicken & corn soup, and lemon chicken with the waitress' recommendation. They came out all very delicious!! The seasoning was just right, not too salty. The veggies were fresh and had a good balance of crisp and moist. And the lemon chicken was super delish!!! The veggie portion in the noodle dish was very generous! Rice was good. Overall, we were all very happy! Despite that we still tried to eat some local Finnish food everyday, we actually ate one meal everyday from here during our stay in Helsinki! Haha XD The waitresses were very friendly. They even offered me hot tea while I waited for my take out order. If you happen to stay around the area and crave for some authentic Chinese dishes, try this place and go for the a la carte :)

Seaside Garden gets 3 stars for food and 1 star for have good takeout at cheap prices. I say in…read moreevery review I write about Helsinki dining, lest one forget how I REALLY feel about it: food here is overpriced always, and subpar often. That being said, Seaside Garden is an amazing deal. 25% off on takeout orders! Woot! Ready in 10 minutes! Woot! About 2 minutes from our house! HELL YES. San Francisco is a city swarming with Chinese, Indian, Thai, and every other kind of place just begging to deliver you hot, delicious food for close to nothing. I am used to excellent, cheap food. Seaside Garden is a little taste of home here in Helsinki. Is the food out of this world? Not really. But it'll do in a heartbeat. If you get the veggie dishes, ask for less bamboo and more veggies or you will definitely end up with a container full of bamboo in sauce. Skip the hoisin sauce and go for the szechuan or chili. Get the fried rice or noodles. You'll need a little something to spice up your other dishes. My husband likes the Kung Pao Chicken (not sure what it's called in Finnish) and the egg rolls. I'm not a huge fan of the egg rolls myself: they're deep fried wonton with cabbage in the middle. That doesn't mean I didn't eat them, though. They're quite good dipped in one of the many mouth-watering sauces that come with your order. Also- the Kung Pao sauce was every bit as mouth-watering as the best I've had in SF's more Americanized Chinese joints. Highly recommend Seaside Garden for fast, cheap, good Chinese food. Yum!

I stopped in for take out and ordered the chicken new school dumplings and the pork bao. Despite walking 15 minutes back to my hotel these puppies were still warm. The dumplings get a 10/10, there were the perfect warm comfort meal I had been craving with the rainy Helsinki weather. The pork Bao were okay- they were really sweet and I found myself trying to add toppings from the dumplings to correct it. They also came with a sauce which was also sweet- I wish it had been more savory. Finished the dumplings of course but left one of the pork buns. Overall a win, I spent roughly $28EUR, if I were in the states that would be a lot for dumplings but seems like the average price in Helsinki. I highly recommend checking it out, this place was packed! People continued to pour in throughout my 15 minutes of waiting for my take out. Clearly it's a local gem.

The restaurant has a cozy feel to it with typical small tables in lieu of their small plates menu. Quite busy fora week night with only one server but seemed she was on top of her game. And she's making the drinks herself too! We ordered the beef carpaccio, shrimp toast, laced gyoza, shrimp dumplings in tom yum sauce. Everything was delicious! Highly recommended when you're in Helsinki.
