No manager is ever available to talk to, they won't refund me they just keep rescheduling and canceling. They don't return calls or emails. They transfer you and hang up. Very happy with my experience with the repair department at GC East Brunswick. My guitar (purchased used privately) had a bad volume pot that was giving me fits. Brought it to GC East Brunswick repair department. Was greeted by Anthony who was friendly, professional and sized up the problem immediately. Better yet, he told me to stick around and he'll have it fixed. True to his word, Anthony replaced the bad volume switch with a new one, soldered and tested the connections, all in less than 20 minutes. Very reasonable price and I did not have to leave my guitar for days or weeks as some places would have you do and for a lot more money. Great job! Thanks! read more

The customer service we received earlier today left a very sour taste in my mouth. Went in to get an old guitar tuned- it was sitting in its case with the plastic still on it for over a decade. Had the displeasure of being assisted by an older man named Glenn, if I recall correctly, who was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional from the moment he walked over to assist us. My boyfriend was approached by Glenn while he was waiting on line at the front counter. He began to (attempt) to give Glenn a friendly backstory on the situation (trying to explain he'd had the guitar sitting aside for many years pretty much unused and planned on gifting it to my younger brother for his birthday) but Glenn didn't want to hear it. He found the audacity to cut him off mid-sentence saying "What does this have to do with today?" Red flag number one. I've worked many years of customer service and have never spoken to a customer in such a dismissive matter. I have customers chew my ear off on a daily basis but I know it's my job to have open ears and act professionally no matter what. Immediately, I was turned off by the whole situation. Then Glenn took it up a notch. My boyfriend explained that we needed the guitar tuned and opened the case. Glenn offered us a tuning device, but we explained we didn't know how to use it. His response? "That things filthy. I'm not touching it." Oh? As I said before, the guitar has been used AT MOST three times in 10 years and stored in its case. Plastic still on the front. I could never even think about gifting something in poor condition. Granted, after so many years set aside it might have accumulated a tiny bit of dust on it. But by the way this man reacted you'd think it was caked with dust, dirt and roaches. I really couldn't believe my ears. But let's give Glenn benefit of the doubt and assume he's a Howie Mandel-level germaphobe. Wouldn't a better response have been to simply grab a cloth or napkin and give it a quick wipe? I would've been happy to give it a quick dust for him had he communicated like a normal person. Well, something switched in his brain because he ended up doing the tune up on it anyways immediately after making his comment. It took him all of two minutes. Regardless, I've never received such horrid service in my life. It truly took us aback. He made us feel terrible about a guitar that holds great sentimental value to us, and something special we'd planned to gift. I could not imagine stepping foot back in this establishment again, nor recommending it to any family or friends. read more

Okay I used to live close to this store. Altho I have no musical ability whatsoever, my son does. He can spend hours in this store. I sit and sigh when I'm asked to go there bc I wander aimlessly wishing I could play something. I listen to all the talented and untalented musicians play randomly around the store bc they encourage that. Prices range from affordable to holy crap depending on your tastes. The staff are quite knowledgeable and can usually play an instrument. They even have used gear moderately priced. They have all your musical needs. Strings, straps,amps cases, stands etc. They also have a temperature controlled acoustic section that's closed off but feel free to sit on the many seats to test,tune and play any guitar. They also amps for th2 semi acoustic. They carry a decent selection of drums, bass guitars,harmonicas and many other instruments. They also have music lessons and a post board for musicians looking for band members or selling instruments. Definitely worth a visit. They also constantly run sales in store so you never know if that instrument you want could go down in price. read more

so first off ive been comin to this store for a while. the first thing that threw me off is that when i got a microphone stand for my desk, the pro audio employees forgot to give me a little piece that made me have to wait over a week to use with my mic. shouldnt be my responsibility to make sure all the pieces are there for the item i purchased. it was made right in the end after countless hours wasted waiting and doing my own research. what really threw me off was the management and guitar tech. i was charged $120 for a pro setup for my jazzmaster plus a pack of strings for my guitar. firstly, any guitar set up is supposed to come with a pack of strings included in price. secondly, they barely even set up my guitar. they adjusted the truss rod and PUT MY BRIDGE ON BACKWARDS! no waxing, no polishing, no fretboard care. for $120!! plus the $10 for strings! when i noticed this at home, i took my guitar in after calling the store. the manager at the time, Greg, told me the guitar tech was there and able to help. as i arrived, they let him go home and basically told me there was nothing they could do for me. the management and employees here are airheads, unprofessional, and apathetic to their customers. the cherry on top is, when i called GC Customer Support, they told me they cant do anything for me either! these people are scam artists, and so is corporate. never step foot in this store if you can avoid it. read more

Third time is not a charm ; ....bought a keyboard about a year ago ($800) an acoustic guitar ($500+) a few months ago, and just recently a beginners electric guitar package and accessories ($300+)...and was shopping for a Fender Jazz Bass ($800). If I could get my money back on each, and repurchase elsewhere, I would. Rude,rude,rude staff. I know I may not be a big spender in the world of musicians, but I get a warmer welcome and better treatment from the guy who sells me a $2 cup of coffee. I just now took the time to find that there are 3 other stores equally as close to me that sell guitars, so bye bye Guitar Center! This review is partly for this store and partly for Guitar Center Nation Wide (50/50). Let me tell you why I am boycotting this Guitar Center location: During Guitar Center's July 4 sale, I was looking to buy a D'Angelico Bob Weir Premier SS. Specifically, I wanted to go and play one and pick it up myself, but the only one in the northeast was in East Brunswick and it was cracked in the headstock (the D'Angelico makes the prettiest headstock). Although they were offering $200 off of the list price due to the crack, I passed on this guitar. On July 3, I went to D'Angelico in NYC, I played the guitar, and later that day I ordered the guitar from Guitar Center at the full retail price, less a 15% discount for the July 4th sale. Now, the crazy part of the situation is that when I spoke to GC phone salesperson Christopher Slater on July 1, he was very cool, and he alerted me to the broken headstock. And when I placed my order on July 3, I happened to be speaking to Christopher Slater again. We discussed, and I went out of my way to tell him I did not want the East Brunswick NJ cracked headstock model and he assured me that I WOULD NOT RECEIVE THAT DAMAGED FLOOR MODEL. I had already passed on that model at a discounted price and I surely did not want it at full price. So when the box shows up it's from East Brunswick, NJ, and I said to my wife, "this better not be the cracked one." But of course, it was!!! My brand new, full price, cracked guitar (advertised at a discount, but sold to me for full price). Since that time, I called Guitar Center twice, was told I would receive a call back from a supervisor in a management capacity, and have heard from no one. The fact that East Brunswick would be shady enough to fulfill a new order with a cracked floor model that they knew about it is a good enough reason for anyone to pass on buying anything there. They knew exactly what they were doing -- trying to get rid of that guitar at my expense. That's a malicious business practice and I am punching back. read more

Heads up!!!! If you plan on purchasing a big ticket item from guitar center over 250.00 using cash they will not give you cash back. They will write you a check. I purchased a 700.00 item and returned it. I received a check for Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo would not cash it using a lame excuse. There is nothing on the recite stating the 250.00 policy. read more

My boyfriend's played bass for about 20 years and when he asked one of the employees about the bass strings they have in stock, the employee rudely said "bass isn't a guitar", and other uncalled for remarks. First of all, a bass guitar is indeed a guitar. And second if you're that ignorant to think that bass means nothing or you truly think it isn't a guitar.... Used to go to the store a lot. Never had a problem. When when I brought a go rack for $100, Then saw the same go rack online for $29. So I called the store spoke to the manager Jose. To see if you can price match it he says no I can't. So the next day I go to the store to return the item. The cashier tells me let me speak to the manager. So the manager was Jose. He starts yelling at me from across the room and telling me I told you yesterday that I wasn't going to price match it. Mind you I never told the cashier to go talk to him or to price match anything. I yelled at him back and told him I never told the cashier to go talk to you. I actually told him that you said that you could not price match. Never went back. they lost a good customer. Buy your stuff from Josh in Drums, he's cool dude. Bought a book and tried to return next day with the receipt and they wouldn't take it back. Their return policy is not posted clearly anywhere in the store or at all on the receipt. And the return policy online claims to be no hassle return however there are a ton of restrictions in small print. Return policy should be clear and verbalized when purchasing something that can't be returned. Waste of a trip in rush hour. A big store like this should handle this better read more

I purchased a used amplifier head (bass) from the East Brunswick store. My overall experience was less than satisfactory. However, to be fair, I'll break my transaction into categories and score them since not everything was bad. Customer Service - 2 of 5 stars Timeliness of Shipment - 5 of 5 stars Order Accuracy - 5 of 5 stars Condition of Contents Delivered - 3 of 5 Stars Overall Satisfaction 3 of 5 stars My reason for the low scores are as follows: 1) My amplifier head was delivered with no power cord. When my local guitar center rep (in California) called the store to inquire, the person on the phone refused to assist us, stating "we should have received the power cord" 2) They removed the rack mounts and did not ship them (the rack mounts were in the photo) 3) I noticed that they used "economy" shipping after I selected the 2 business day shipping. This could have been a malfunction of the web service. However, I called the store right away when I received the notice that my order was being processes. The guy on the phone acknowledged that my order was still in the store, but refused to change the shipping method, even after I told him I would pay the difference (I needed the head for a gig and ended up having to find a loaner). The rest of the transaction was satisfactory. They processed my order the same day, and I received what I ordered - except for the power cord and rack mounts. I would be reluctant to either do business with this store again or recommend them to anyone who is not local. read more

One of my older and favorite guitars had fallen into a condition where it was almost unplayable. I found myself avoiding it and hadnt played it for a while because it just didnt play a nicely as it once did. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! I went in knowing which guitar I wanted. Their website said the model I wanted was in stock. When I got there I had to search for staff, and when I found someone, they treated me like I was a stupid first time musician! When I asked about the guitar I wanted, he said "Let me check the back". After going into the backroom 3 times, they said they didn't have it in stock. They offered me the floor model which had signs of moderate usage in the store. It had fingerprints all over it and had some minor surface scratches. They sold it to me for regular price and did not offer a discount on this guitar. I had my mind set on this specific guitar for a while so I wasn't getting any other. Very unprofessional. You should have taken 20% off the floor model idiot! Very disappointed in the Dj section. I have to upgrade my mixing board I was ready to buy one right there on the spot just if someone would of approached me and said "hello how can I help you today" after 20 minutes of walking around the DJ section I walked out. Of course, I was annoyed, but Ken understood my situation and was able to set me up with a rental amp for my gig. Last Sunday ventured out to see if they had anything interesting. The racks that the amps used to be on were gone, amps piled up on floor with no patch cables to test out guitars or amps. Asked for patch cable which are now kept behind the counter. Patch cable came with an annoying guy who hovered over me asking me incessant and pushy questions like a car salesman even before I had tuned the guitar and started playing. It seems there is a new super sales push and now no longer a place to try equipment without being hassled by patch cord guy. Also wanted to buy a pedal that was $99.99...the guy immediately comes to display case and spends 10 minutes trying to convince me to buy the one that is $129.99. Sorry....now I walk and have not bought anything. Bad change going on....have been a long time customer but really turned off by new stance. read more

This is a wonderful place to bring the kids to. The staff is soooo friendly and they really go out of their way to answer questions and make sure you feel at home. When my kids were younger I would bring them and the staff would let them tour and see all of the different instruments. I've been in this location many times and have not ever had a bad experience. Great knowledgeable staff. Bought a Fender Eric Johnson Strat on 12/16/16 (one of the best sounding Fender stratocasters!), a guitar book and I was most recently going to buy a portable amp but the Manager, Mike, talked me out of it. He was concerned about matching my son up with the right product rather than me trying to make a quick decision. Somehow, a case mismatch happened with my guitar and Mike went out of his way to take care of it. Not sure if it was a manufacturer, shipping the guitar in the wrong case, since all the case candy was in it. But, Mike caught it somehow, and took care of me and got me the right case. Again, knowledgeable about the product in that I didn't know about the case mismatch and he was concerned I was getting the right gear. With the GC Coupon, I paid a fantastic price for the Eric Johnson Strat. Knowledgeable staff, matching sales/coupon with a purchase is key. Keep an eye out for great pricing on used gear as well.
