Horrible customer service and attitude. Called up here asked if I could have a guitar delivered to this store from Sweetwater which my friend has done at at a different location in FL. I planned on purchasing another 3k worth of equipment from them when I came to pick it up. When I asked the guy on the phone he responded "absolutely not we will turn it away or throw it away" with an attitude. Lost a life time big spending customer because you just wont accept a package. GC gets tons of packages everyday doesn't even make sense to be an issue. Another guitar store gladly did it and said "I'll do anything to help my customers" so he's getting my money and a lifetime of loyalty instead. Terrible business practice. read more

I honestly am blown away by our experience here today... all because of the guy who helped us, Josh. He was absolutely wonderful, beyond helpful, very kind and patient. Like he was genuinely just wonderful and it didn't feel like a transaction was taking place at all. You can really tell he is passionate about instruments, and extremely knowledgeable (not in a annoying way) on the products.. specifically, guitars. The store is pretty big and they carry pretty much everything with a wide range of choices and brands. Speakers, amps , keyboards, tons of string instruments, drum sets, bongos, Taylor, Gibson, the list is vast...huge selection but not too much to overwhelm you. It's also all arranged in a way, you can see it all and know where to go. Like they put some thought into it.. The staff were all very helpful and nice. Today was special, my daughter has been saving her $$ for a while now and decided to buy herself a Taylor guitar. Josh made this a breeze and once he led her into the acoustic room, she just followed her heart. I can't say enough good things about this experience. My sweet 14 year old couldn't of left here with any bigger of a smile. Josh changed out her strings, shined her Taylor up, hooked us up with a re-chargeable tuner, a strap and a case.. and he made my daughters day even better when he gave her a discount ! He also knew a lot of interesting things about the Taylor brand and was giving us some super cool info/history on Taylor guitars, and their founder.. how he is working to conserve different trees, wood, etc. for the material to continue to supply their company to continue to run smoothly for years and years to come. We are looking forward to our next trip back. Thank you Josh for making this day truly special for her and for letting me snap a pic of you & her purchase... Bought a "NEW" bass from the store and when I took it home it had scratches and dents. Took photos of it and brought it back to return it. When I brought it back, even with the same scratches they claimed that they couldn't refund me full and would have to buy it back used even though they sold me a used product from the floor. Claimed that they can be buffered out, yet he sold it me with the scratches still on there. So if you can buffer it out, why was it sold to ME with scratches? You sold me a used product by your own standard. This experience showed me to never purchase from guitar center period. Forget purchasing floor models. I won't even purchase a cable from them. They're a dishonorable company. If zero stars were possible. I'd give that. read more

Don't bother going to this store. I went to look at cymbals, they only allow 10 people in and you must wear a mask. I'm cool with that, but the guitar center nazi said unless I knew exactly what I wanted I couldn't come in. I called to make sure that I understood what the music nazi was saying, and the guy said what he meant was you can't come in and play guitars for an hour. I guess I could hit cymbals for an hour but my ears would be ringing. Overall poor communication, poor execution and a total lack of respect for customers. I have been A customer for about 3 years you may find stuff cheaper on line but it doesn't come with the knowledge and help you receive in store they are very friendly and quick to assist as soon as you walk in if not sooner last time I went I was bringing a speaker in for warranty and one of the employees was in parking lot saw me and came over and carried in store for me and took care of me right away. read more

I am not a musician, but every time I take my sons into this ultra cool store, I find myself wishing I was. My teenage sons are both really into guitar, and therefore always needing sheet music or new strings or parts and accessories that I have absolutely no clue about. So what I really like about the Guitar Center is how helpful and nice the sales associates are. I go in with my sons and we are always greeted right away and asked how we can be helped. And the selection is incredible. All kinds of instruments and everything you need to go with them. It's really fun just browsing around. read more

I love this place. I see why it's so easy for people to lose a few hours in here. Friendly faces, low prices, great selection, great vibe -- I've tried shopping at other music stores around town and it just doesn't compare. The people are really nice and knowledgeable about the gear. The options can be kind of overwhelming and it sucks to not be sure if you're getting the right thing, so it's nice to have someone who legit cares and is interested in who you are as a musician, and will point you to the right stuff without wasting your $. It's like, you could go online and hope the thing that ends up on your doorstep is right, or go to GC and they'll help you and even match a lower price if you find one..... which is awesome. What's also nice is that nobody is judgmental of what music you like or play, or what skill level you are. Also, they have classes. I've gone to a ukulele class, and I know they do group guitar lessons and recording. AND, they sometimes have musicians come through for workshops or vendor demos and stuff. At GC Memphis, I've been to see Travis Larson, a Taylor event where they brought gorgeous Taylors made out of a variety of woods and did a presentation, a drum workshop by a previous Drum Off winner (Ramon Sampson), and others. Anyway, bottom line is, this place is like a neighborhood musician hangout. Musicians work here, shop here, hang out here, learn about music here, buy their kids' first instruments here, etc... it's great. read more

I have never left unsatisfied. However, I have had some unpleasant experiences about which I think people should know. One, I was sold a midi controller, which I thought was new, but was in fact a return. I found this out when I tried to use the included software, only to find that the serial was already registered. I took it back, and was given a refund, but was not compensated for the time, expense, or trouble to make the long drive back to Memphis. I also bought a digital 4-track recording, and was sold the wrong recording media. Again, I had to drive all the way back there (an hour each way) to return, and was given no special consideration for my trouble. Other than that, my experiences there have been OK. They seem to change people a lot in the Pro Audio department, some are knowledgeable, some are not. I have now found an online store I like, and no longer shop there. read more

I've been buying entirely too much from this particular Guitar Center for a number of years. Way WAY too much. For the most part, the staff is friendly and helpful, but the one that kept me coming back was always Buddy Church. He is an outstanding musician that was able to literally shut the place down with his guitar playing. Sadly, Mr Church has left the store, but the rest of the staff is still nice. With one exception, I have not had troubles finding someone to help me when I need it. I do need to stay away for awhile. I really don't need to buy any more gear! read more

The guy who helped us was very knowledgeable and helped us quickly narrow down what would be the best fit for our needs. Fred helped me find what I needed via phone. Held overnight what I wanted. Grant had it ready the next day. While at register, I showed him where I could get it cheaper online. He jumped all over it and reduced the price to match. I think he even called the inventory manager to report the price online so it could be adjusted in the system for shelved units. Bought a couple of speakers today from Josh Cannon. Easy and informative. Great dude. It was a relief to deal with someone who I felt was listening. We demoed a couple of major brands like Jbl, QSC and Ev. Eventually settling on the EV. He really helped me with a rather large purchase for my church. I'll be back for some more pa equipment in the future for sure! I've been in sales and sales management for a lot of years and this is a great place to be treated well. Thanx guys! read more

Today was my first time to visit Guitar Center and I was very positively impressed. I had talked with a guitar specialist there by phone about trading my guitar for an upgraded model. Things sounded promising so I made the trip. I wound up making the trade and then spent lots of time checking out the store. I found sales people and management in every department very friendly and helpful. There seemed to be genuine interest in my satisfaction and earnest responses to my questions. Naturally, the also have a large inventory to meet your needs and desires. I'll certainly be back at the store again. It's a pleasant place for a musician to hang out, try instruments out, purchase what you need and generally enjoy yourself. read more

Having worked in customer service for years, I'm very prone to praising those who represent great service and criticize those who do not. That being said, my boyfriend is a musician and shops in Guitar Center frequently. I typically never buy anything in this store; I usually just accompany some of his trips. However, today I went in to buy speakers to give to my boyfriend for Christmas. I walked in and looked at the items, to make sure that I knew which speakers he had wanted. A sales associate asked if I needed assistance and I showed him the item I wanted to purchase. He went to the register to look in their inventory and told me that the one on the shelf was the only speaker in the store. But, he immediately offered me a deal on the item, since it was out of the box and considered "used." This offer was a significant deal ON TOP OF the already reduced "Black Friday" price. I was stunned and excited and completely willing to take him up on his offer but, that was not the end of it. My sales associate, Adrian McQuarter, then proceeded to explain that if he were the one receiving the gift, as he frequently shops in the store himself, that he would prefer a new item that way you can guarantee the quality of the product. I agreed, based on the cost of the items and the fact that I needed to purchase two speakers anyways! He located a store in Nashville that had both of the items, contacted the store to have the speakers delivered in 3 days and even discounted the price. The discount was, again, on top of the already reduce "Black Friday" price! I was floored! I never had to haggle with him, beg for a reduction in cost or ask for him to locate these products elsewhere. Adrian was professional, incredibly accommodating and definitely knowledgeable of the products his company offered. He also made sure that the entire process was easy for me and that I left as a satisfied customer. This having been one of my first experiences buying from Guitar Center myself, I was quite impressed. The customer service provided by Adrian made my experience memorable, simple and gratifying. Not only did I tell Adrian how impressed I was with his customer service but I also asked to speak to his manager, Nathan, to express my gratitude. I wish that more sales associates had the attitude, passion and commitment to a great customer service experience that Adrian had. I will definitely be making more purchases from Guitar Center and look forward to picking up my items on Tuesday! I made the mistake of having a Jazzmaster setup at the Bartlett Guitar Center. I'd just moved here and hadn't gone to any local music shops and figured they'd at least do a good job. To work at a place called Guitar Center you'd think they'd know how to set up a guitar properly. When I got it back it sounded like complete shit. Every string buzzing because they had no idea how to work on a jazzmaster bridge, pickups way too high, action way too low, etc...I eventually took it to a local place called Circle Music Center in Memphis. The employee at Circle Music (Eddie) looked at it and told me they didn't even put the screws back in to hold the bridge in place... You could move it back and forth easily with your hand. He took a lot of time and set it up properly and taught me a few things along the way. Really cool down to earth guy. When I asked what the fee was he told me not to worry about it. All I'd ever bought from them was a capo and some picks. Such a difference in attitude and skill when comparing Guitar Center to a real music shop. I also bought an old 12 string guitar from Guitar Center with a gift card I had. It was used, a bit beat up. Missing strings, the nut was shot, but nothing you couldn't fix in a few minutes. I asked them if I bought it if they'd replace the nut for free and set it up. "Of course" they told me. I also bought a guitar cable and after they rang it up I realized I should get a few picks. The bastards even charged me for a few 30 cent picks after I bought a guitar! Every music store I've been to before will usually be at least halfway cool and throw a few picks in. As I was waiting for them to work on my guitar I decided to try out a guitar I liked on the wall. I was really considering buying it because the price was good and I really liked the guitar. Before I could make up my mind one of their super cool employees asked me if I was almost done fooling with the guitar in a very condescending way. I had on a black leather jacket, my hair is a bit long, I hadn't shaved for a few days, so I guess he thought there was no way a low life like me could afford such an instrument. I didn't know musicians were supposed to be clean cut and look nice and tidy. The lady who was interested in the same guitar was some yuppy real housewives kind of creep and obviously didn't play guitar, but I guess they knew her husband did and she had no problem spending lots and lots of money (she talked insanely loud on her phone about all the things she was buying for Christmas and what she'd already bought from this Guitar Center). I got pissed off and decided to leave instead of wait around all day in the Wal-Mart of music stores. I told the manager I'd pick it up later that day or the next and he said "no problem". My girlfriend went to pick up the guitar after she got off work the next day. The manager failed to give me a receipt to come pick it up and they hassled her for a while until they got ahold of the manager and he said she indeed was the girlfriend of the owner of the guitar she was trying to pick up. Once it got to my house I tuned it up and noticed the B string was out of tune with the other B string when I fretted them together. I noticed the same shitty nut hadn't been replaced like promised and the grooves for the strings on the nut varied in depth. I learned the grooves had to be the same depth for the strings to stay in tune when fretted. I fixed the problem myself and that was my last dealings with Guitar Center. One good thing I can say about Guitar Center is their shoddy work forces me to learn how to work on my own guitars. Thanks Guitar Center! read more
