I wanted to go to therapy to heal the broken relationship between my mother and I, a relationship…read morehistory that contains a lot of emotional and verbal abuse I suffered at the hands of my mother since I was a child, well into adulthood. Well, don't go to this place if healing relationships is what you're looking for help with. This place is a complete and utter unethical joke. They only have one female LCPC (the rest are male & female LCP's or beneath, education and training wise), and one male with a PhD. We wanted a female therapist. So I, with a background in psychology suggested we see the female therapist with the most experience; that person's name is Kelsey Conlin, and what a mistake Kelsey Conlin is! Her experience did not reflect any sense of competence--AT. ALL. For example, I told her of a time, relatively recent, when I was quite violently physically assaulted by a male family member much bigger than me (I'm female) and she told me I have to take responsibility for what happened to me. Wtf? There was no sympathy, like, I'm sorry that happened to you; absolutely nothing. If anything, she greatly minimized that traumatic experience I suffered through. She just threw me a very crude, uncaring piece of negligent advice, if you can even call that "advice." Then, she allowed my mother, the one with the history of emotionally abusing me, IN SESSION, to call me names like stupid, and insult me right in front of her!... then told me I should learn to be ok with that?! Then my mother and her both laughed and started talking about how they like to over eat to cope with their problems. You can't make this crazy sh*t up, it's so insane; I was floored! But being the thoughtful, or just too forgiving person I am, I was still willing to see her because my mother liked her (gee, I wonder why). In the end (which was a very short-lived therapy experience with her, thank god) she said she couldn't see us anymore, citing some b.s scheduling issue. In my strong opinion, it was because I questioned her apathetic approach, and I called her out for being a poor therapist (in so many words) and she didn't appreciate that very much. Well, to that I say F!*k you, Kelsey. You're a very deranged human to foster a client's verbally abusive behavior towards the other client, in sessions, as a part of your practice, right in front of you! You're clearly really horrible at what you do and I strongly advise people looking to solve and heal family issues to seek help elsewhere. There's a lot of therapists out there to choose from; and just like any line of work, there's going to be a few bad apples. Kelsey Conlin (who also goes under a new different last name as well since she recently got married), is one very bad apple. Our feelings/emotions in a large sense, define us and who we are. And when we open up and share our feelings and life experiences, we need to feel safe, non-judged, and treated with care; we deserve nothing less than that from our therapist. Kelsey Conlin did the exact opposite. She must have missed classes on the days they taught that very vital component of helping heal and counsel others.
