I am in the process of cutting…read moredown on my expenses and so I checked another app for discounted eyelash extensions and found Wink Fairie. The reason I'm writing a review is because Wink Fairie deserves to be on Yelp. This is not just for the benefit of the business owner but for Yelpers who are looking for good quality, good craftsmanship and budget friendly eyelash extensions service. Mel, the owner and eyelash technician, is very sweet. She does her service in her own house at the moment but will soon be opening her own studio soon. Before she starts working on your eyes she would make sure she knows what your expectations are. She showed me these sketches of different eyelash length, curl and the different styles of eyelashes which would make your eyes look bigger or wider depending on your preference. For the type of eyes that I have, I chose cat eye style (lashes that are shorter on the inside corner of the eye and gets longer towards the outer corner). She did agree with my decision. She said the doll like eyes (lashes are shorter on the inside and outer corners and grows longer towards the middle of the eyes) are more appropriate for people whose eyes are farther apart. My appointment was for an hour and it took longer than that. It's my fault as I have been asking too many questions which Mel answered willingly. She knows her craft. She has very light hands and made sure I was comfortable and no lashes were poking my eyes. I'm pretty sure that those who got eyelash extensions would know that the dreadded part of the procedure is when you get to open your eyes. If not done properly, the glue can sting your eyes and would make your eyes water. The surprising part was I didnt feel anything. I asked her what type of glue she used because it didnt sting my eyes at all. Mel said that it's not about the glue but it's about the humidity or dryness of the air. It has to be the perfect temperature so the glue won't sting. I didn't know that! I really enjoyed my pampering time with the Wink Fairie. I say give her a try.

I have to admit though, despite being located next to Stan's Pizza (Go Stan's!) I didn't notice this little gem until the past recent months. Sorry, my bad! I yelped/googled/social media'd this place because: 1) I'm all about reviews 2) I'm all about cleanliness. 2 Polished succeeded in both categories. I was going away for the weekend and needed a quick wax. A last minute decision which luckily ended up at 2 Polished. I called and was greeted over the phone with a friendly voice and luckily was able to land an appointment within 30 minutes time. YES! Parking was a breeze because it's all street parking outfront, and upon entering I was pleasantly surprised but how charming it is inside. It's a bit smaller than your average salon/spa but I can appreciate the coziness of it and how everything looked CLEAN and well taken care for. There are 2 pedi stations on your right with stainless steel basins (used fresh every time, double yes), a mani station on your left and a loungey chair in the back which I assume are for lash appointments. Behind the mani station there is a small room for waxes and the like. I was greeted by the receptionist and was told Angie was just preparing for my appointment and that she'd be out in a second. I really had no idea who Angie was, but turns out she is the heart and soul of 2 Polished. The wax itself was pleasant (as pleasant as a wax can be) and I loved that she took her time. I've gotten so many waxes in my lifetime and you won't believe how lazy people can get. Angie used gloves, disposable wooden waxing applicators, fresh bed paper, etc etc. Just basically anything you might be worried about when it came to hygiene...she took care of it. And the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend 2 Polished and can't wait for my next service. From looking at their instagram, I'd probably try getting my lashes done next time too.

They were available for a same-day appointment, reserved only a few hours in advance. The only detractor of the location are the parking costs of being in "Downtown" New Westminster on a Sunday. From the moment coming in to the salon I was joyfully greeted by Trish , who was happy to accommodate my request for a little distance from other unmasked customers, even though it meant starting up a new pedicure chair. As an immuno compromised person, I still take care in enclosed spaces. I can sometimes be made to feel a burden by such requests even with available space. There was a substantial amount of nail polish colours to choose from and no extra charge if you selected something sparkly. My nail technician, Amy, was friendly and professional over the rough state of my feet. When you have a busy schedule and pedicures aren't possible, some places put a lot of effort into trying to make you feel bad about your feet being rough. I was very glad that this place wasn't like that because it definitely changes the enjoyment level of something that is meant to be a relaxing bit of self-care. Trish noticed my broken fingernail and suggested fixing it. she said the price for, a polish change versus full mani was only five dollars so I went ahead with the full Mani Pedi. There was a bit of a hiccup with both my color choices not coming out the way they seemed on the examples but both Trish and Amy were helpful in sorting it out to my satisfaction. Amy thoughtfully touched base with me throughout the Mani Pedi to make sure that nothing hurt and I was feeling OK. Lovely service that included hot towels and leg massage.
