This is the only place I trust to tune my skis and fit my boots. I wish there were other great shops closer to Philly, but I have tried most of them and have always been unsatisfied. I needed Scott to fix bad tunes from several other shops that I tried when I couldn't make it up to Elk. I purchase high performance skis because I want a high performance feel. Every tune at Guenther's has felt like the factory tune, but Scott will modify the tune if desired. To those looking for boots, Scott is a great boot fitter who specializes in a performance fit, which is why a majority of the Elk race team, coaches, and parents get fitted at Guenther's. He downsized me into a boot that was quite painful for a few days, even after hot molding, but the increase in performance has been incredible. They are very comfortable boots now, but you have to be willing to suffer a bit for the improved performance. Every other shop tried to put me and my family in larger boots that were more comfortable. Larger boots may be comfortable and performant on day 1, but they will get loose over time and your skiing will suffer. I learned the hard way. read more

Yikes - run don't walk. My stepdaughter was in trying on ski boots and said the fit pinched and was uncomfortable. The sales guy (definitely not a ski expert nor true boot fitter) was beyond rude. He kept saying they'll stretch/ will get better. Who buys SKI BOOTS that are uncomfortable from the get go?! I asked if there was another pair / brand she could try for a better fit and the pig looked at me and said "You want instant gratification?". Wow. Stellar service. WTF? Um - No, not looking for instant gratification, kiddo, just boots that won't blister when she's not yet even made it to the slopes. My husband and I have skied for 45 years and have always had our boots fitted by knowledgable staff who aren't pushing their only pair - rule one is ALWAYS make sure they feel good BEFORE you ski or you're going to have a miserable season. For a locally owned business I would've expected more. Lived in this town for 23 years and love to support my local businesses especially around the holidays and have always wanted to go see what Gunther's Ski shop is all about. My fiancé and his family have supported this store for many years as they are big time skiers, so I would have never guessed that I would receive the amount of disrespect that I got when I walked into their store today. We were informed today (after the purchase was already made just a few days ago) that it was gift card or exchange only, but since they didn't have the correct size in the sweatshirt for me to exchange it and I was very upset about the customer service I received the moment I walked into this store (as one of the workers practically ripped the sweatshirt out of my hands to "inspect it", along with her rude remarks and poor customer service) I would've preferred my cash back. Apparently they need the $60 more than I do and they can keep it. I will never be purchasing from this establishment in the future. read more

This shop has some of the best boot fitting in the entire Mid Atlantic region. They can do things to your boots that other shops don't even know exist. They demo all the skis they carry and know how they ski so they can lead you to the model that's right for you. Their tuning equipment and expertise is as good as it gets. If you are within 3 hours of the Elk location get in your car and go- you won't be disappointed. read more

My family and I have been going to Guenther's for years! They are always extremely helpful. They have two locations, one in Honesdale and one down the road from Elk Mountain. I have used both numerous times. The business is family owned and they treat every customer like family as well. The staff has been so helpful over the years. If I know what I want, but haven't been able to find a board like that from the descriptions in the magazines I know I can go in and talk to one of their techs and they will point me in the right direction and give me many options. They also have demo skis and boards at the Elk location. Being able to demo the equipment helps you to realize what you want, because reading about it is not at all like being on the actual board! I usually have a few years in between new boards and it is so nice that they have some of the best tuning equipment on the East coast right here in Honesdale. I have watched the machine at work and it truly is amazing. It restores your board and in the past has been under $40! Although I have stopped at many other shops to browse I have found that Guenther's has everything I need and I love giving them my business. We have been getting all of our family's ski equipment here for over 15 years. Scott has given us really good honest advice, great service and excellent prices. They also do the best tuning in the area and have very well maintained rental equipment. I find the sales staff very friendly and helpful. They have a location on the road to Elk just past the Lake Idelwild turn, just a few miles from the ski area. We highly recommend that you stop in here. read more

Guenther's is an extremely nice ski shop. The service is incredible. Everyone is super nice and helpful. They have top of the line tuning equipment. They have one of the best custom foot bed makers out there working for them. It's just always a great and helpful experience every time I step foot in there. Both stores elk and Honesdale. They always have the newest gear out there. They also have a great line of demos for you to try out which is very helpful to test the ski before you buy. They're one of the only ski shops in town and they let you know it by showing their attitudes. The staff members are not very helpful at all, making it seems like they're doing you a favor by fitting your skis or answering questions about their equipment. My suggestion is to make other plans unless you're prepared to deal with their nonsense. We went back a second and third time giving them the benefit of the doubt "maybe they were just having a bad day...". But we confirmed that they're just not nice people. They have a good selection of equipment if you need something in a jam however; so I guess they serve some purpose. If you do make it into this place, you may NOT be greeted by the woman behind the front desk. She's like a witch who broke her broom. You might also get a kick out of the kid working downstairs who thinks very highly of himself. It was laughable. Bill was ok, but he was the only one it was worth talking to and he was still pretty miserable. Someone with some customer service skills needs to open a shop in Honesdale, PA. Guenther's is ripe for the picking! read more
