Dolphin Construction & Remodeling - Master shower

    Dolphin Construction & Remodeling

Let me share with you my nightmare with Dolphin Roofing and Remodeling…read more Chris was wonderful when he bid our job. A complete remodel of the upper floor of our home. Shiplap on the ceilings, hardwood throughout, converting a small bedroom to a first floor laundry, accent wall in master bedroom and a total remodel of the master bath. The master bath was the big job. Pulling out an existing shower and soaking tub to convert the shower to built in shelves and make the tub space a huge walk in shower. I had every detail written down in a notebook we jokingly called "The bible". Paint, hardware, vanity, faucets, tile, flooring - everything was decided. When Chris came out to bid the job he was on board with the vision. I sent him copies of all of our choices so he could bid the job properly. Stated the work would take 10-14 days. $55,000 for all. We signed the contract and away we went. Demo went quickly. But then he stated that we needed to replace our subfloor. We agreed to the cost and while bring on the subfloor they damaged our brand new refrigerator. They finally agreed to replace the damaged door. This is when things started turning south. We were living in a hotel at the time and had boarded our dogs as well. Then, it started that nobody was working on the house for days on end. I have all the text messages asking when they were going to work on the house. This went on for WEEKS. The vanity I selected they couldn't get, so I had to pick another one on the fly. We had to assemble the vanity when it got here and we installed the accent wall and installed the replacement doors as well. I literally had to threaten to have another contractor come finish this mess. 6 MONTHS. That's how long this project took. Living in a hotel: $40,000. Boarding my dogs:$20,000. Him nickel and diming me to death: probably close to $75,000. Even though everything was laid out in the walkthrough. The house is beautiful. It's exactly how I envisioned it. But the process sucked. He was not open and honest like the rest of the reviews state. I would do a Google review, but since those can be deleted, why waste my time. Here, 6 months later, I'm dealing with the after effects of shitty contracting. I have to have a plumber come out and vent the laundry room in the basement. It was not vented properly and now sewer fumes are gathering in my basement bath. I just had everything down there newly sheetrocked and painted and I have to cut a hole to fix this venting issue. I also just found out that they did not replace the door seal when they replaced our refrigerator door. So now my ice maker isn't working and my fridge is working too hard. Do not hire this guy unless you need roofing done. He is not equipped to do a major remodel. He'll blow smoke up your ass all day long but it should have never taken 6 months to complete the project. The only reason it's done is because I told him I was moving back into the house and gave him a date. Ultimatums were the only way to get things done. So if you want someone to nickel and dime you to death, not show up for the job, and to have a never ending project, then Chris is your guy. Otherwise, buyer beware.

I was repeatedly told not to worry because they would "take care of everything" and that my only responsibility would be paying the deductible. Several months later, after the company had already collected substantially more from the insurance carrier than I believed the work justified, I received what was described as a "final invoice." The document still did not include an itemized breakdown of charges, only a total amount due, and it included charges for work that I do not believe was completed. In addition Rhoden charges a 2.9% fee for using a debit card. Since Federal law makes it illegal to charge a processing fee for debit card transactions (Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act), Rhoden plays the word game to try to grab another dollar by calling the fee a "convenience fee". Hiring Rhoden Roofing was a decision I regret. Based on my experience, I strongly encourage homeowners dealing with storm damage or insurance claims to be extremely cautious about assigning insurance payments or claim authority to a contractor they do not know and fully trust. I also strongly recommend obtaining multiple detailed, itemized estimates from reputable roofing companies before signing any agreements or authorizations.
