Amazing selection of both DVD and VHS, haven't found a title they didn't carry (especially their VHS collection) and I've gone pretty obscure with my inquiries (Eastern European art films, Grindhouse ratites, Old limited release documentaries, etc). The guy that works there fixes VCRs and gives them away so that others can enjoy their extensive collection. These stores are dying off across the country and I'm thankful to live near one that's so well stocked and knowledgeable. Bonus: they sell hundreds of VHS tapes for $1 each. read more

If I could burn down my local Blockbuster and replace it with Gualala Video, it would be a dream come true. I have been coming here for years and absolutely adore it. One of the highlights of staying at Sea Ranch for our family is watching old movies that a chain store would never offer. Gualala video has a whole room devoted to classic and foreign film, my favorite genres! The room is organized according to awards won, actor/actress, director, country of origin... It is like a treasure hunt every time I go there to rent a movie. The staff is laid back and cool. Long live Gualala video! May it never, ever go out of business. read more

They have an amazing collection of classics, indies and popular films. Their staff ... well let me tell you. I walked in and asked if they had the very obscure DONA FLOR AND HER TWO HUSBANDS. The guy behind the counter said, "mmm" and without looking it up led me to the back room, reached up and plucked it off the shelf. All of their staff have been like that, year after year. Not only do they have the most interesting selection of videos I've ever seen, but I could literally spend the entire day cruising the shelves and learning about movies here! You can not find another comparable selection anywhere. Ever. Dave, the owner, is great. He's nice, very helpful (especially with kids), and best of all he knows his movies. If they don't have it yet, it's not out or he will get it. Be prepared to LOVE the selection! read more

Have to say it is the best video store I have ever been in . The owner, Dave , is always helpful and very knowledgeable about most any movie. He is very polite and has a fantastic selection of every thing from documentaries to foreign films, comedy to drama, and even a huge children's film section. This video library and the renaissance film connoisseur owner deserves the 5 stars of excellence posted previously. What I would like to add is how one can saunter in and ask David if he is able to get a VCR. No problem, he referbushes them and then hands them over for free or for a couple of bucks. It's this generous way of doing business that keeps him competative with Amazon or Netflix. His wealth of information about film through the decades, brings in folks who just want to talk up movies. Another service, he will obtain the most obscure films, you may think he wouldn't know about but does. I have never seen such an amazing selection of movies. This place puts the other places like Block... to shame! Love it!

Good selection. Got six videos over several days. One DVD was a bit scratched and made for some difficult viewing. We got most of the movie though. Out of consideration we told them the movie (despite cleaning) had some glitches in it. Thought they would want to know to avoid future complaints. They told us they would put a credit on our account. This seems fine, but given we were leaving that day and live over three hours away, a cash credit for that movie would have made more sense. I explained this and that we didn't know when or if we would be back, but they didn't care. We will be sure to bring Netflix videos next time. read more
