Rocky and I first looked "earnestly" for a new home mid January of this year without even preparing our existing home at all for sale. We found a floor plan we loved and selected the interior/exterior materials. The GTM team was great at helping us get our house sold (for what we were asking for it) and we ended up living with family for 3 weeks while we waited for the new house to be competed. It was slated to be compete in 90 days and I thought that would be a stretch, but even with bad storms this winter,we still closed on time. Rocky, who has some experience in building was impressed with the quality of workmanship all through the house. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the job site all through the building process. The contractors are very careful not to leave building waste around and take pride in a clean construction site. We closed and moved in exactly on schedule and after being in our house for a couple weeks now, I am still impressed with the little "extras" that are included in the base price of the house and not an upgrade that would be the case with another builder. Driving home from SLC one day, my wife asked if we could stop by one of the GTM Model Homes to have a look. (Little did I know that she had been looking into GTM Builders for quite awhile) We stopped in and were greeted by Seth. He took us on a tour of the Model and we went over all the great features they have as standard items (which are upgrades to most all other builders). We fell in love with the Leah! However, there were a few things that just didn't sit right with my wife about the layout of the floor plan so she started piecing together some ideas for changes. We presented those changes and Matt was more than willing to work up a new design for us that included those changes. We are Very pleased with the final result! Quality work from the start! After moving in and meeting people from the community, we tell them where we live and the response is usually, "Oh, the house with the BEAUTIFUL back window! I LOVE that Window!" We love it too! We absolutely loved working with GTM! They built our home very quickly with the highest of quality and care. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I am so glad we went with this company as we have heard horror stories from other friends and builders they went with. Both Seth and Matt are a dream to work with and take every suggestion and detail to heart! They are extremely communicative and have exceptional at keeping you up to date on your build! I would choose GTM again in a heartbeat! They have won us over and their statement "Let us build your dream home" is something they live by through and through! UPDATE #2 - FINAL UPDATE: I thought the post below would be the last of it. That I would not have a glowing review for them and they would not honor the contract without it. But much to my surprise a check showed up in the mail. Shawn sent us the $2800 in good faith, dated the 26th. Now other than the time it took to get here - everything has been made right. And again, I will say that there were a few middlemen, and this probably broke down communication, when Matt and Shawn became involved, things got done. This has gone so far in making us feel that we were treated fairly. I held on to the check for a bit, just to make sure my update would be fair. Yes, I cashed the check, and I am now comfortable to give GTM a better review. Had the experience gone smoother I would have given an overall 5 star rating. Our home is beautiful and we are going to love it, it is a 5 star home. But, for the overall experience from start to finish has been an overall 2 - at times pretty bad, but they made it all right, so no more complaints there. Sorry, I can't go all the way to a five, but feel comfortable with a 4 star. Hope they understand why. Update on our experience with GTM Builders: My husband and I met with Matt of GTM Builders before the Christmas holiday and had what we felt was a productive conversation. We really thought that the remaining issues we were having with the house would be resolved. However, when we spoke with Shawn from GTM the day after Christmas, we had doubts. The sticking point is GTM reimbursing us for the patio leading out from the walk out basement that was not put in. We have a signed contract showing that the patio was to be included in the additional price paid for the walk out basement. Unfortunately, the size of the patio was not defined. We insist that a 3'x5' concrete slab is not a patio and that if they honored the spirit of the contract, they should have either included it originally or reimbursed us for the cost of putting a patio in. The amount in question is $2800. Full disclosure - I did tell Shawn I would get back online and post updates, both good and bad. My intent was not to "blackmail" them, but I can see why he felt that way. He did offer to pay us for the patio if I updated the post indicating that all issues had been resolved and that now we would recommend them and give a 5-star rating. I sat down to do just that. However, I can't in good consequence do that. I do want to give credit where credit is due. 1) The gas hookup that was missing on the deck has been installed. 2) The pillar off the deck was completed. The sloppy cement splashes are still there. 3) They did have someone out to repair the cabinets. 4) They came and shaved the door that leads into the basement so that it will now close. 5) They put caulking in the cracking cement in the basement. Not a perfect fix but at least there was an effort made. 6) After the original post we started hearing banging in the house when the heat turned on. It happened throughout the day but was most noticeable at night. When I first heard it, I thought someone was in the house. It was loud enough that our dogs would start barking and the hair on their backs would raise up. Shawn, Matt and their HVAC came to hear it, and all agreed that it was not normal. GTM came and inserted foam around the duct work and pipes in the basement. There is still some banging here and there, but not nearly what it was, and we are hoping that is normal growing pains of the house. So, I can say that we have had more than a few issues with the house but, I cannot give a 5-star rating. They have fixed the physical issues, but not without a fight. I am going to give the benefit of doubt and concede that there were too many middlemen involved. When we did get to Matt and Shawn, we had some real results. However, they still will not honor the signed contract. Middlemen are blamed on this, but it was signed by Seth Parkinson, who is authorized to act on their behalf. The whole process has given us a sour taste in our mouths and I have yet to love my new home, and it is a beautiful home - but I will eventually. read more
