He did little contests and raffles throughout, and we had a mural tour with a really nice souvenir photo of our group. I organize a lot of these kinds of group activities, and not all food tours are created equal. I highly recommend this one, whether you're organizing a work thing, having visitors from out of town, or are newcomers to SF. You won't be disappointed.

A family owned and run business that truly treat their customers like one of their own. I had one complaint about missing the fortune cookie factory and the owner Tom called me personally to resolve it. Later in our visit we went on our own to the fortune cookie factory and it was really not anything much to be concerned about missing. If you have never been to San Francisco or even if you have been before this is a fantastic introduction or re-introduction to what makes this city unique. I forgot to mention that you should come hungry, there's plenty of food along the trip!

I researched a…read morebunch of options and even considered one of the hop-on, hop-off buses, but then I came across the Painted Ladies Tour. I watched several videos, read reviews, and quickly realized this was a completely different kind of tour. The tour takes place in a vintage VW van that looks like something straight out of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine. Honestly, even the vehicle itself makes the experience fun! It's also a much more intimate experience than a large bus tour, which was exactly what I was looking for. It ended up being one of our absolute favorite things we did in San Francisco. Our guide, Clay, met us just a couple of blocks from our hotel, which was another huge bonus. We didn't have to take any additional public transportation to get to the tour. It was my daughter and me, another mother and daughter, and their aunt, so we had a really small group. Clay made sure we rotated seats throughout the tour so everyone got a different perspective and everyone had a chance to sit up front for the best views. One of the first things Clay did was explain what actually makes a "Painted Lady" a Painted Lady. We got to see so many examples throughout the city, and one of our favorites was the Four Seasons. It was really interesting learning the history behind the homes rather than just driving past them and taking pictures. We drove through the Haight-Ashbury area, where Clay explained how housing costs and the population have changed over the years. We even saw the iconic home with the legs sticking out of one of the windows, which is a pretty funny representation of just how packed some of the homes became. We also got to see the former homes of Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Being able to see those places in person and hear the history behind them was really cool. Our first stop where we actually got out of the van was Alamo Square Park, where the iconic Full House opening scene was filmed. This was probably the number one thing my daughter wanted to see, so she was thrilled! We got out, took pictures, and Clay was kind enough to take pictures of both of us together so neither of us had to be the person left out of the photos. Next, we drove by the house from Mrs. Doubtfire. Clay actually happened to see them filming part of the movie when he was younger, which made the stop even more interesting. Then came another major highlight for my daughter--we got to see the school from The Princess Diaries! From there, we headed to the Palace of Fine Arts, where we learned about its connection to the World's Fair. We stopped to take pictures, and I have to mention one of my favorite random moments of the entire tour: seeing a Golden Retriever riding in a convertible, absolutely living his best life. It was one of those completely unexpected San Francisco moments that made the day even better. Since we were already in the area, we also stopped to take pictures with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. But the absolute highlight of the tour came next. Clay took us to Lombard Street, turned the music way up, blasted "Born to Be Wild," and let us cruise down the famous winding street with the windows down. We were all singing along, laughing, and taking in the experience. It was honestly one of the most iconic and memorable moments of our entire San Francisco trip. The tour was also perfectly timed. We spent the morning seeing so much of the city, but we were finished early enough to walk back to our hotel, have some downtime, and regroup before lunch. We never felt rushed, but we also didn't lose an entire day to the tour. I would absolutely recommend the Painted Ladies Tour to anyone visiting San Francisco. It's such a fun and personal way to see the city and learn about its history. Instead of sitting on a huge bus with dozens of other people, you're in a small group, getting to interact with your guide and really experience the city. And Clay was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, personable, and made the history fun for both the adults and the kids in our group. He took pictures for us, made sure everyone got a chance to experience the best seats, and really made the entire morning feel special. If you're looking for something more personal than a traditional sightseeing bus, I can't recommend this tour enough. Between the Mystery Machine-style van, the history, the movie locations, the Golden Gate Bridge, and singing "Born to Be Wild" down Lombard Street, this was easily one of our favorite memories from San Francisco.

That is not what happened. There was essentially no hands-on cooking. My wife and I repeatedly asked how we could help, and the only participation we were given was washing lettuce and chopping a small amount of pepper. There was no meaningful instruction, no real teaching, and very little engagement. The ingredients were also very disappointing for the price. Store-bought tortilla chips were used despite the menu advertising homemade chips. The carne asada was supposed to include chimichurri, but it was seasoned with store-bought seasoning from a jar and no actual chimichurri was prepared. I contacted Cozymeal immediately with detailed feedback. After delays, they refused to refund the booking and offered only a 15% gift card toward another Cozymeal experience, which is useless because I would never use them again. This was an awful experience and Cozymeal did not stand behind it. I would strongly recommend avoiding this platform.

I don't know what exactly happened to Brian, and to give him the benefit of the doubt, for a while we thought, maybe he had some sort of emergency. And to be honest we would have been less irritated if he told us earlier on that he could not make the tour and needed to cancel, because shit happens in life. What we really didn't appreciate was the fact that he strung us along for two hours. Tour was suppose to start at 11:00. At 11:15 we were told, another 10 minutes. So we waited. Then we were asked to move to the next venue. So we waited for another 30 mins. Another call from Brian to the venue and asking us to wait another 10 mins. This kept going on until we waited for almost 2 hours. Throughout this whole time the main operator was apologetic and to be fair, offered us a refund and vouchers. They were also trying to get a hold of Brian, but couldn't. The problem was that Brian was clearly avoiding phone calls from his employer, because if he really had no signal he wouldn't have been able to call the venue and keep telling us to wait another ten minutes! I am all up for giving people a second chance. Maybe Brian has his reasons. Maybe his alarm didn't work and he forgot to wake up on time. But he needs a quick reality check in basic client management - don't over promise, and don't avoid confrontation because one cannot face delivering bad news. Because things surely will deteriorate quickly once people realise they are being lied to.

We did the Chicago Tastebuds tour a few years ago, and five stars again for a memorable day with my son on his spring break!

Adventures Off the Eaten Path just seemed to draw me in when I was searching online; I could tell it was not a canned trip of the tourist spots. Dan Chew (the owner), offers really unusual tours and his verbiage showed that he not only knew food, he knew the neighborhoods. You cannot sign up for a tour online; you email your info, along with ideas of what tour you are thinking. You receive a list of 4-5 questions from Dan. Your responses help him determine which tour would meet your expectations. We wound up doing the Tenderloin Tour and WOW WOW WOW!!! Dan took us to literal holes in the wall, places you would never think had great food. We had Thai, Pakistani, Egyptian, Vietnamese, and I cannot remember what else. Dan knew the food, he knew how it was made and we discussed the types of ingredients that may have been used. You can tell that Dan Chew LOVES his job of sharing cuisines from the great city of San Francisco. NOTE: This is the main reason you should consider taking an AOTEP tour; Dan pays for your food! Now, you might be thinking, "Well, yea, I paid a tour fee so he better pay for something." That's not the point. Many tour guides take you to the restaurants that will give the guide a kickback, or they prepare a special item just for that group. This means you many not be getting the best food in the area, just those places that are willing to pay the tour guide. Dan does it the other way around; we walked into each place and were seated like any other customer. We ordered off the menu and Dan never mentioned being a food tour guide, even when he paid the bill. We got the same amazing food that every other customer gets. That is key! Anyway, look into Dan's food tour company. He is professional and knowledgeable. And don't question his pricing; the reasons I listed above are the reasons you should go on an "Adventure Off the Eaten Path."
