I had a great experience with Grover tool. Esther was so helpful and thoughtful talking me through a yard project and renting a mini skid to move large amounts of soil/DG, she even called me to followup with other ideas! Their rates and delivery are reasonable. This is very much a "mom and pop" operation: they have a white board with folks renting different equipment. They have an honor system for holding equipment, I called the week before I needed equipment and they didn't even require a credit card from me to hold the rental. They rent all sorts of equipment and looks like they also have U-Haul rental as well. Great customer service, would recommend if you need tools for your next project! I noticed lots of folks renting that are "seasoned professionals" but also some newbs that hardly have a clue like me. I am so grateful the staff talked me through how to properly use the equipment. Thanks to Grover tool, my husband and I were able to save 65% of what we were quoted to do a project. If I could leave no stars I would this is the third time I've got tools from here that don't work! I don't know what's going on with who ever is working on these tools! Very frustrating just rented a jack hammer for not even 2 hours with a cord for 116 and they both did not work! I thought I'd give them another chance the last thing I got was a concrete mixer that was held together by a nail! I will never use these guys again! I've waited a week to write this review as I wanted to A) give the owner or manager an opportunity to return my call and B) it's never good to write a review when you're as pissed off and upset over how you've been treated as a paying customer who simply wanted what she paid for. I rented a gas powered pole saw on Friday May 6th. I picked it up at 1:15 and was charged for a half day - even though my paperwork showed I had to return it in 3:45 minutes. Shouldn't be much of an issue if it worked as good as they said it would, right? Think again. Before I left, the kid behind the counter acted like it was a complete PITA to get off his duff and show me the unit. He began by talking down to me like I am a moron. To expedite the process, I asked if I could show HIM how *I* would normally prime and pull start a unit like this (I'm no stranger to items like this having been a buyer in the commercial construction industry for over 20 years as my first career). He acted surprised that I had the process down pay....choke on, prime rubber nipple 5 times, pull the starter rope. No.Big.Deal........except he didn't actually TRY to start it when I was there. I tossed it in my car and headed for home. I did everything possible to get this unit to start - and finally, after 45 minutes, it did. It ran rough but I was able to cut 5 palm fronds and trim up a large Bird of Paradise before I decided it had warmed up and was safe to turn off so I could extend the pole and safely trim my tall palms - the real reason I had rented it in the first place. That pole saw wouldn't start again to save my life. Two of my big burley neighbors even tried and still couldn't get it to start. One wanted to check the carb as he said it sounded like needles were gummed up but it's not mine so I declined and called Grover Tool Rentals to see how they wanted me to proceed. The nice lady on the phone said to "come on back and I'll take care of you" which I thought meant something along the lines of "we have another unit we can replace this one with or we'll get this one working." So stopped what I was doing, picked up all the stuff I had out in the yard, loaded everything up and drove back down to Grover Tool Rentals. When I got there, I could see two young men sitting inside with their arms crossed, watching me wrestle this pile of junk and all the accessories out of the truck and thru their door (don't get off your duff and open the door or even think about offering help). Before I could even finish setting the pole saw on the floor "Mitchell" (at least that's the name he finally gave me) frisbee'd a sheet of paper into my face. I asked "What's this?" He responded "Your receipt" "But I'm not even close to being finished with my project. Don't you have another unit, or can you do something with this one?" I responded. "No. We don't and won't have another unit for you. You probably don't even have anything else to trim and just wanted a free short term rental" I was appalled. I've rented from Grover Tools before and I'm thinking the kid figured I was working on my vacation home as my account had my old address on it. If he was rude, it wouldn't matter because I'm not a local. WRONG. It really shouldn't matter where you live, I treat everyone with respect and I guess I'm out of line for expecting the same. Regardless, the lady I spoke to on the phone was nowhere to be found, so I asked again "What the heck am I supposed to do to get my project done?" Mitchell's little side kick spoke up then and told me to "get out or we'll call the cops on you!" Huh??? WTH did *I* do to be treated and spoken to this way?!?! As I walked out I reminded little Mitchell about all the equipment I had enquired about renting for my back yard project and said it was sad they don't care enough about their customers to want to extend some decent customer service. He said "Oh yea, I'm REAL worried the loss of your business is gonna shut us down!" (insert eye roll here from Mitch)...and THEN he called me a bitch under his breath. I don't know what I did to this little man to hurt his feelings or treat me this way, but I did rent that dump trailer, a bobcat, the compactor and a walk behind for next week's back yard destruction derby from your competition. I'm glad my hard earned money won't be going towards supporting this unprofessional dolt. I'm just sad none of my phone messages were ever returned by the owner or manager as I really think they should know how poorly these two represent their business when they're away. read more

I have used Grover Tool rental several times over the years for trailers, a uhaul, and various tools. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. Today I am reviewing party event rentals. Grover tool rental also rents party tables and chairs. The have brown or white chairs to choose from, they also have a variety of tables. I rented 20 white chairs. They charge $1 per chair per day. Super cheap! You simply call to reserve them, pick them up, then drop off when you are done. They fold down very flat and are not heavy. We put them easily into our Subaru Outback; we could have fit 50 chairs at least. I would definitely use them again. read more

Rented from there today. Called at 4:08 and told them we might be a few minutes after 5pm for drop off. Person said "I got you" arrived at 5:10 only to have it completely locked up and all lights off and unable to drop off rented trailer with no place to park it at our home. I think it is a waste of money and a bullying tactic, but even if I were pro-recall, what sort of business does stuff like this? either way you are going to make some of your customers angry or uncomfortable. Rented a dump trailer here was able to call and reserve, they had it ready when I arrived. On my way back from Cold Canyon Landfill, my vehicle broke down, the staff at Grover Tool Rental promptly sent a recovery vehicle to pick up the trailer no questions asked and I was able to get my personal vehicle towed home safely. read more

Went there to rent a wood splitter. Reserved it three weeks ago. Called twice to rent it on a Saturday. My friend called yesterday to ask about the specifics of the splitter and also confirmed that we were going to get it on Saturday. We arrive and there's not splitter and my name is not on their board. They were just a little apologetic and said they would have one for me next time and give me a better deal. I found out the deal was only $20 discount for a full day rental (normally $90). This is after I had told them that we have confirmed numerous times the date and time of the pickup of the splitter. Think there are better places with better service. Follow up. I did get a call later that day that the tool came in and we could keep it until Monday at a half day charge. Good businesses shine when they fix problems. I had a problem with a rental and they made it right super fast, and super easy. The owner was more concerned with my job being finished than her (very nice) piece of equipment. This was my first experience here, and although I had a hiccup, I couldn't be more impressed. This is the absolute worst place in the county to rent a uhaul. No one working here seems to know or care about what customer service really is. I've had several trucks reserved from here over the years and EVERY time they haven't had the truck I've needed. Most recently I had a 26' truck reserved and they dropped the ball once again. If you're looking to reserve a truck I would advise that it's worth the drive elsewhere to ensure that you get the one you need. read more

I've used this place for a uhaul rental in the past and thought they were courteous and professional. HOWEVER...they impressed me even more when my father told me what happened today. He is 84 and has Alzheimer's. I was getting my haircut nearby And my father was walking around the strip of shops while waiting for me. He lost his balance, fell, and hurt his arm. The wonderful folks at this company noticed and came across the street to help him. They took him inside and bandaged his arm up. It is nice to know that there are people like this in the world. My wife and I needed to rent a truck for our recent move. There were no trucks available in San Luis Obispo, so we opted for the next closest location, Grover Tool Rental. When we rented the truck, we declined the $14 additional charge for insurance. They made a big show of walking us around the truck and pointing out minor cosmetic scrapes that were each marked with a handwritten "x" in a circle. It made me wonder what it what about, other than to point out that the truck had been dinged multiple times and that they were attempting to scare people into buying the insurance. The man there told me that when we returned the truck, we should park it on the street and return the keys to the after hours drop box. Since it was only 8:30 a.m. and ours was a local move, I asked him what time they closed. He said 5:00 pm, so I said that we should be done before then. When we returned to drop off the truck at 4:30 pm, we were told by a man standing in the equipment yard that we were closed, and he instructed me to drop the keys in the box. I took a photo of the return mileage, and we went on our way. Two days later, my wife got a call from U-Haul asking when we were planning to return the truck. My wife explained that we had already returned the truck, but she was told there was no record of the return and instructed to call Grover Tool Rental to get it straightened out. When she called and told them the situation, they placed her on hold for over 5 minutes. Since we were still dealing with all the complications of moving, she finally had to abandon the call. When she called back later that morning, the same thing happened. On her third attempt, when she expressed concern that they still hadn't located the truck, she was told not to worry, that they had 24-hours security cameras, so, if we had really returned the truck there would be a video record of it! Honestly, how do you lose a 15-foot moving truck for two days? Finally, on our 4th phone call, when I was just about ready to drive over there, a woman at Grover Tool Rental told me they had finally resolved the problem. Good for them. I am done doing business with Grover Tool Rental. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I rented a large brush mower this morning at 10am and when I got home to use the mower I found that the safety lever which stops the mower when you remove your hand was not working..neither was the brake and 2 hours into the job the battery died. I called them and they wanted to "try to find someone to fix it" I told John that we did not have that much time and I was loading it up to return. I got 2 hours of use into a 4 hour minimum so the attractive young lady with a tattooed left arm offered me a %10 discount. I told her that this was NOT satisfactory but she was adamant apparently feeling that a dead battery on their equipment was my problem. My son has dealt with them before and he said that this is how they roll. PS this not the end of the story. read more

We rented chairs for our wedding in June 2013. When I called to reserve the chairs it was easy to speak to them and there were no problems. The prices were the best around and the chairs that we rented were nice looking white fold out chairs. On top of that they let us not only choose the time of delivery for the chairs, but also for the pick up time as well. On the day of the wedding, the chairs were delivered right on time and picked up at the time agreed on. They didn't help set up chairs (but that was our choice, we wanted to make sure they got set up in a certain way), but the delivery drivers were friendly and helpful. They did however do all the clean up of collecting the chairs. All in all we were happy that we went through Grover Tool Rental. read more

The BEST!!! LOOK NO FURTHER. These guys saved us. It's a long, long story. Basically the saw we rented somewhere else that didn't work. The other guys told us it wasn't the saw. Rent a generator (which those guys didn't even rent). After renting 2 different generators ( 2 different trips to the shop) the saw still didn't work. Grover's said, to forget the generators and the saw. They gave us a perfect, cheaper saw with a new blade. It worked PERFECTLY. We finished the project even though we didn't get to start until 3 pm. We will ALWAYS GO TO GROVER'S FIRST. Now we know. Best customer service and tools. That's all. read more
