Service was consistently poor, staff were mostly unfriendly and what was meant to have been a 'special' weekend ended up being a real let down. I hasten to add that none of the negatives we experienced were down to Covid-19. The only positive experience during our stay was the wonderful lady who served us drinks in the brasserie. Sadly for the Grosvenor, the service she provided only amplified how poor most other elements of our stay had been.

This is a lovely hotel, with a welcoming, trendy lobby and luxury rooms. We stayed in a 5th floor…read moreroom with a 'river view', and we weren't disappointed. The bed was firm and comfortable (though we should have asked for extra pillows), and the bathroom is cool and clean, with a large bath and a shower 'wet room'. The toiletries are really good. You have a smart TV with lots of channels, and wifi is free (though we didn't test it, having a good 4G signal on our phones). Room service was poor during our stay, and we would only comment that cold pizza that looks less than 'luxury' is not worth £23. We sent it back, and the room service manager was very professional and apologetic. Breakfast is good, with a selection of cooked or Continental goodies, often made fresh rather than served in hot containers. I had waffles with banana, with melted Nutella served in a small copper pan. My partner had bacon and egg English muffins, which he enjoyed despite the eggs being overcooked. We washed it down with cappuccinos and fruit juice. Other than the poor experience with room service, and almost being charged for two breakfasts instead of one at checkout, it's an exceptional hotel with friendly staff and nice places to hang out, such as the brasseries and the 2nd floor hallway, which includes a yellow submarine suspended from the ceiling! We would stay here again.

The decor is dark and mysterious and puts you in a bit of a cheeky and mischievous mood, which I cannot explain, you'll just have to check it out to understand what I mean. Being in this mood is by the way ideal for when you are heading out. Head out we certainly did not, bit of Champs was on the cards courtesy of the boss in the dimly lit moulin rouge decor bar, i was getting rather comfy with the soft cushions while admiring my surroundings. In fact in our merry chatter we discussed all the other Mal's in the UK and despite being in awe of the place I made it my mission to stay at all of the Mal's by the end of 2010. Two down only 8 to go :-s but not to worry, an adventure awaits......I am particularly looking forward to visiting the one in Oxford which used to be a .....wait for it....prison... yes folks your rooms used to be someone's cage. I'll have to pass judgement once I have had the pleasure. The other thing I can remember is how much I enjoyed showering here. It truly feels like you are bathing in the rain and the inhouse shower gels are just so refreshing. It is the attention to detail which makes the experience so fulfilling. I couldn't sum it up much better than that really. Fulfilling.... The funny thing about hotels is that you actually don't spend that much time there. It is testament to a good hotel therefore if you do remember little things, it shows that the short experience was worthy enough to leave some good memories..... My stay at the Mal pool was as good as it gets.... Apart from perhaps Hilton I would say this is arguably the best hotel in Liverpool, so break the penny piggy bank and stay here instead of a budget B&B and you will not regret...

The room is extremely small but it's clean which is good enough for travelers like myself who value convenient location and reasonable price over room size and fancy decors. It's not that far from Lime Street Station, it's about 10-15min walk but if you have a suitcase, take a cab. It was less than £4 from the station. The staff are friendly and very helpful. It wasn't much of a chance but rare one bags a bargain so readily these days. Location wise it really couldn't have been better. Room size is small but actually this is more a short break or 'out all day' kind of place, so you are just likely have an overnight bag and need a place to flop. The big screen TV was a very welcome treat along with huge selection of Sky TV channels, including films, sports and HD. Wi-fi was great ... zero problems with speed or connection - it was also free! PLEASE NOTE: This review is based on a restaurant experience here…read more If you read my reviews, you will know that the Marriott franchise, is one of my favourites when it comes to hotels, so when I was stuck in Liverpool not knowing where to eat Gluten free, other than Pizza, I decided to call in here after a positive phone call. I feel the phone call could of gone better, as they had to phone me back to mention if they did serve Gluten Free but they did state they were busy, and when they contacted me back stated they could do me many things. When I arrived, I was told the chef would sit down with me however I did have to wait quite a while, without being served or offered drinks but he eventually came to me and told me that he could make me anything I wanted, I asked for a risotto which I mentioned on a phone and when I come in but he mentioned that he had struggled to source down Gluten free risotto, so he came back and I asked for Fish and Chips with battered GF fish. I had long waits between him coming to me and trying to sort it out, nervously having to plan a backup plan if he couldn't do it, but the chef told me that he would make it for me as he had found some Gluten Free flour. I was attending this with 3 of my friends, he didn't give them a look in and they had to wait for quite a while to get served as well, finally they went to the bar after I was sorted, being disappointed he didn't take their order as well as mine. From when I arrived, it was nearly 2 hours of pain, waiting for my food, The Chef never shown his face after this wait, as I was angry, I was never warned about having to wait this long, normally you get warned to have to wait half an hour but have to walk so long that your friends who you ordered about 15 minutes before, have finished their meal and beyond is just unacceptable. If I wouldn't of had to pay upfront, I would of defiantly left. When my food come, the fish was barely battered and the chips tasted undercooked, the skin was still left on and they just tasted weird and horrible. As I was leaving, the chef sent down (still not showing his face), a gluten free cake and cereal bar to try and make up for it, but I had to wait, for inedible food, while going through the torcher of starvation and watching my friends eat every bite from their plate. The cake he sent me, must of been left out from breakfast as it was as hard as rock, and could of been used as a brick/ The Cereal bar wasn't that better either, Since entering the building, I had to wait 2 hours to have my food, by the time all my friends had finished. I was charged 10 pound and to be honest it was really a small portion and not what I asked for, I didn't want peas and the fish wasn't really battered, it was all inedible. This experience is probably one of my worst, it was torcher and having to splash out my time and money on this, I had to go out somewhere else to eat! Marriott has just lost a loyal customer to their brand, this experience was no where near the quality of a high end hotel like Marriott. To be honest, I would be angry if the Head Chef worked in a Mcdonalds, never-mind in one of the most prestigious hotel brands in Britain and throughout the world!

I like Feathers as a brand, they are an independent group with hotels exclusively in the Northwest. This particulat one is a very decent B&B which offers four star quality at very competitive rates. My main problem with it is that despite its refurb, it still is a bit too old fashioned for my liking. In today's extremely competitive hospitality market it is difficult to please everyone I suppose. Still there is a market for the older consumers. However with rooms costs in the range £55-£85 you can't complain. There is also a function suite where wedding receptions and Birthday parties can be held. Again it is a perfect location for a graduation party. The conclusion is that there is nothinhg wrong with this hotel, but I would either go all out and go for one of the nicer hotels or apart-hotels, or go for the really cheap option. That's just me though, and you might want to take the middle route with Feathers, your call.
