Sadly, my grandfather passed away over the weekend and his funeral arrangements were made through Brown Funeral Homes. Brown Funeral Homes is conveniently located on King Street in the heart of downtown Martinsburg. It's been around for a long time and seems to be pretty busy all the time. They must be doing something right... or there just isn't much competition. I'm not sure. But the building is quite large inside with two or three different viewing rooms. My grandfather was in the room on the far left when you enter the side door. They arranged all his flowers beautifully and prepared the television with our slideshow of photos we selected. They also prepared little pamphlets for guests who attended. It was all very nice and thoughtful. The staff were kind and treated our family with dignity and respect throughout the entire experience. Hopefully I won't have to return here anytime soon, but I will keep this funeral home in mind. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is the outdated furniture. Please, please, please get at least "newer", more modern furniture and get rid of those gloomy looking pale pink curtains. It just makes it look so sad inside. Also, it was very stuffy and at a certain point we all felt like we needed fresh air.

I understand that laws at times are prohibitating but empathy and compasion should have no bounds during the the time of the passing of a loved one.
