Caleb, Tyler and Jordan did a good job repairing the concrete in our garage. They explained what to expect beforehand. Cleaned up the work area after they were done.

Colorado Structural Systems was founded by Brian and Kimberly Goodman, a dynamic husband and wife Team who have been in the construction world for many years. Brian owned several of his own companies before entering the construction field. They began doing construction 22 years ago and also own Kimber Construction. Having dealt with the new construction phase while building homes gave them the desire to discover a new way of supporting foundations in Southern Colorado. They came up with the concept while trying to improve the movement issues from building with caissons. Caissons were developed as one solution to building homes on active soils. Once hearing about helical piers, Brian decided to research them as an alternative approach to avoid soil settling issues. When you build a home, you need a strong and sturdy foundation in Colorado. Since the soil and landslides are not unique to Colorado, Brian spoke with Hubbell Power Systems, Inc to see if there might be a way to build stronger foundations. In 2013 he became CHANCE® certified and learned how to design and install the helical piers. Since then, he started building his homes on helical piers and is pleased with the result...

The 20mil poly was now serving as a pool liner to the deluge of water that had occurred. In order to help move the water out, that liner had to be cut out and then the ground had to dry out before figuring out how to replace it. After contacting a few other companies, I met with Sebastian from HomeStrong. He walked through our crawl space (5' high) and determined how to best repair and get the place back to its original condition. We chose HomeStrong because Sebastian made us feel comfortable, showed us what we could expect and gave us a team who could get the job done the following week. And the pricing was very competitive. Also, it is a family owned company - having our own family business, we really like supporting other families with businesses too. We could not be happier with the results. The project took a little more than 3 days. The team - Daniel & Christian - took such great pride in their work that once the poly was installed, they took their shoes off every time to keep the ground clean! And the encapsulation is even BETTER than it was before. The products they use are top notch. AND the color is WHITE which makes everything look so clean!! A side note here: Not having had exposed ground under our home before, the difference in the humidity and coolness in the house was directly impacted by that exposed ground, even after drying it out for a month prior to reinstalling the encapsulation system. We had a difficult time getting the house to cool less than 73º. Once poly was replaced, the house immediately cooled down and was much more comfortable. Had no idea the impact the encapsulation had been providing! A big shout out and thank you to Sebastian, Daniel & Christian for helping us get our crawl space even better than before! Cannot say enough good things about HomeStrong - highly recommended!! (tried to add photos but it is not allowing it!)

A project of this scale on your biggest asset is daunting, but HomeStrong was great to work with and their work and subsequent clean-up was top notch! I would highly recommend them for any foundation stablization project!! Chris N., Lakewood, CO

Straight Line kept me well-informed with frequent communication. The site crew was on-time, and very respectful of our property, including being cognizant of our new concrete driveway (ensuring the heavy concrete truck was always parked on the street to prevent damage to the driveway -- much appreciated!). Once the crew was on-site, however, I learned that this was not the regular Shotcrete crew chief (he was helping the regular person since he was so busy) and at least one of the crew had never done it and appeared uncertain about his job. When I inspected the completed job with Emory, the crew chief, I observed that the application still had multiple, deep gouges all along the surface and the sides were extremely rough. I asked him to at least level the top ("might be too late since it dries fast"). He did so but it was not smooth and many gouges remained. Now, after several weeks, I'm noticing that the gouges have pebbles that easily pull away. Although I didn't really know what to expect with the final product, I would have wanted all surfaces to be completely leveled so they were smooth. Doesn't seem like that would have been difficult. As I said before, the process leading up to the job was exceptional and every employee was pleasant and respectful but I am slightly disappointed in the quality of the final result. I believe it will hold up over time but it isn't as well done as I had expected.

I would not recommend Liftech based on my experience. The biggest concerns were the lack of proper…read moresubgrade preparation, the lack of transparency, and the difficulty getting clear, consistent answers throughout the process. I specifically chose and paid extra for high early cement because my goal was to regain access to my garage parking as soon as possible. I expected clear guidance on the product's performance and realistic timelines. Instead, I received conflicting information ranging from not being able to walk on the concrete for 48 hours to not being able to park on it for anywhere from 2-10 days. When I asked for clarification, the responses were vague. Liftech's production manager stated, "There are no specific specs for high early since it is mixed with concrete at the plant," and also said, "There is varying information because no concrete is created equally." I would expect concrete professionals and concrete plants to have more consistent information regarding the product being installed. Another major concern was the subgrade preparation. Liftech subcontracted the concrete work, and when the crew arrived, they did not even have a compactor onsite. I asked the workers if they planned to compact the subgrade, and based on their responses and actions, it did not appear that proper compaction was part of their plan until I contacted their Project Manager and requested that a compactor be brought to the site. A video documenting the work can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/YBubb-Wx-ac. In the video, it appears that only about 50% of the area was properly compacted, with some areas not compacted at all. The subbase also does not appear to have been watered down as part of the preparation process. The video speaks for itself regarding the preparation that was completed before the concrete was poured. For a project of this size and cost, I expected better communication, transparency, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, my experience left me questioning both the workmanship and the information provided throughout the process.

One of the most troubling is discovering problems with the home's foundation. We had been considering downsizing and began discussing the possibility of selling the house. Eventually, we found a real estate agent we liked. Our house was built in the late 1800's and the agent mentioned that, due to modern code, the brick foundation could likely fail inspection. That meant we had to find someone other than an ordinary handyman, someone who truly knew the ropes and could guide us to a successful inspection. Web searching eventually led us to Groundworks. After reading all the overwhelmingly positive reviews, we gave them a call. Groundworks responded by sending Jake Davis, a Field Engineer, to look things over. We were immediately impressed with his approach and professionalism. He spent several hours (not just a quick glance) ascertaining the foundation's structural integrity and produced a diagram outlining the suggested work and a detailed list of required materials. Within a few days a Groundworks crew, led by Justin with Abel and Brendon, began placing steel support beams in the areas Davis described. Justin explained each installation step from the support beams to exactly how the columns were anchored. He's one of those impressive people whom you feel genuinely take pride in their work. Not surprisingly, Jake Davis kept us updated throughout the entire process. After two days the work was finished to our complete satisfaction. If you have similar or other foundation problems call Groundworks and set up an inspection appointment. By the way, the overall cost was far less than expected. I most highly recommend Groundworks!
