My family and I were starving after a long morning of exploring Lisbon and my little brother insisted on getting burgers for lunch. We found Ground Burger nearby and I have to say, I'm glad we did! This was one of the best burgers I've ever had, anywhere. I got the Ground Burger which came with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and the GB sauce. The beef was amazing, all the toppings were so well balanced, and the brioche bun was excellent. Whatever was in the sauce really added a lot to it too. The fries had a nice little addition of rosemary which complemented them nicely. While these burgers are expensive, they're up there with the best burger I've had. Following a great experience getting a haircut at Barbiero Gil (please reference my review if interested), my wife and I headed to Selllva to have a late morning adult beverage (one of the many thing Ms that I love about vacation). After having a drink we figured that we should get some food in our systems before heading to Museo Calouste Gulbenkian. In route to the museum we came across Ground Burguer. Being that we had been eating mainly Portuguese food for the past 2.5 weeks (which was absolutely delicious), we were stoked to find an American themed burger joint. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by a friendly employee at the front door area. He quickly sat us and provided menus. Since my wife and I often have similar taste, we both ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with French fries. To wash down the burger, I ordered the Vila Prazeres Raspberry Sour Portuguese beer. Less than 15 minutes later our orders were being delivered to our table. My wife and I both quickly devoured our burgers (you know it's good when you barely stop eating to talk), along with the delicious fries (the garlic mayo dipping sauce is bomb)! I must add that the burger bun alone is delightful. Although I'm not a beer person, I found the Raspberry Sour beer to be deliciously refreshing. The bacon burger was juicy and not too fatty. We got the one with the bacon and barbeque sauce. The bacon was thick and not highly salted like the American. Bbq sauce was mildly flavored which is what I prefer. The only thing missing is the smokiness and food was not hot when served. I would recommend going for this burger joint at the time out market when you feel like you can't eat anymore in typical Portuguese food while in Lisbon. read more

So first off, I took a star off because of the prices. This is a tourist trap for sure! When had a conversation with security and was told that they don't eat at Time Out Market because they prices are way to high. And I couldn't agree more. Now these dirty fries were bomb and the serving size was crazy. I believe they threw the fries on a smoker or something because the fries themselves had a nice smoke flavor to it. Loaded with cheese and jalapeños and beef. Could have shared but I think we would have been still hungry. I wanted to try a burger but again, I couldn't get with the prices. Ate at the Ground Burger location in Time Out Market Lisboa. Highly recommend! Delicious burger! Better than most I've had in North America. Speedy and friendly service. Make sure you ask for well done if that's how you like it as burgers are cooked to a medium temperature in Portugal. We paid €16 for a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and sparkling water. Aside from the noodle restaurant, Ground Burger usually has the longest line at Time Out. Prices hover around 10-12 Euros per burger without the chips/fries which is pricey for Portugal but not for this market which primarily caters to tourists. They serve beer and wine as well and a meal for two with drinks will cost you around 40 Euros. They have vegetarian options as well as a turkey burger (which was very delicious). You really cannot go wrong with a chain American Style food when traveling, I mean, I guess you could realistically, but I digress. After a lengthy European trip, our small group was looking for an American Style meal to finish our last night abroad. None of us had eaten at a Ground Burger before, but it sounded right up our ally - burgers, fries and milk shakes with a cold beer. There was plenty of seating available when we visited around 5:00pm - which in Europe is not a normal dinner time. Dinner is typically around 7:00pm. A note on the menu, there are more beer options than burger options...and I mean there are A LOT of beer options. There are a variety of burger options, and you can also modify a salad if you prefer something bunless. Everyone at the table the enjoys a burger, spoke happily of the burgers prepared, and the fries were a hit among our group as well. This is so far the best burger I've had in Lisbon. They got the order correct and wait staff super friendly hip and all spoke English perfectly! Food was very tasty. Burgers perfectly cooked and juicy. Fries greatly seasoned with a little salt garlic and thyme. Dipping sauce of garlic mayo was also good. If I could, I would franchise this place in all countries just to be sure I will never be a place without their amazing Chili burger, onion rings or their sauces! Like any real burger place you can pick how many grams of meat you want, how cooked you want it and how spicy. I have some rules about burgers. First off, if they aren't beef they aren't burgers. PERIOD - this is non-negotiable. And if they are lean, they aren't burgers. Second, rarely does it turn out well if you have ordered a burger from a menu & a waiter while seated - you want to walk up to the counter and order. And rarely should you pay over $10 for a burger. And finally - generally speaking - don't ever order a burger outside of the USA. Not trying to fly my inner redneck here, but let's face it, a greasy sloppy burger is an American thing - we just know how to do things that aren't healthy but taste great. So in my travels, you will almost NEVER see me order a burger overseas, even at an American chain (although I tend to avoid American chains overseas, of course). So today I broke my rule. I saw a place here in Lisbon, Portugal, called Ground Burger. It touted "old school American burgers." 100% Black Angus Beef, ground fresh daily. Buns baked fresh twice a day. Rosemary Garlic Fries cooked to order. BAM! Totally legit, best burger I have ever had outside of the states!! Tons of beautiful young & hip guys & gals in jeans & t-shirts taking orders, smiling and really friendly. Asked how I wanted it cooked, and customized exactly as I asked. Burger perfection... It is better than virtually any burger I had in the 21 years I lived in America. The milkshakes are big and very good (I have tried vanilla and strawberry). The fries, side salad, and 4 dipping sauces are also all great. I have had the Ground Burger and The Bacon Cheeseburger with GB sauce instead of barbecue. Both were truly excellent. It seems like they have a lot of attention to detail and every ingredient is carefully chosen and prepared. I think the ciders are too sweet though. It is also a little expensive for Lisbon if you think of it as a burger restaurant, but if you think of it as a normal restaurant it is very reasonable. read more

Top notch. It's a little hidden/out of the way, next to an office building with the front door not on the main street, but well worth finding. One of, if not THE BEST BURGER you will ever have. Truly impressive selection of local and craft beers. Service was awesome. Place tends to get crowded in the later evening, but for good reason, this place rocks. Initially tried going on a Monday, just to find out that it, like many other places in Lisbon, are closed on Mondays. The owner was there, unlocked the doors and invited us in, and helped look up and recommend alternative dining options for the evening. Fantastic lunch. I had the double cheeseburger, my girlfriend had the single cheeseburger. We shared an order of onion rings. We both had a Samuel Addams on TAP! The burgers are cooked to order, we ordered medium. The buns are house made, very fresh, and perfectly toasted. The condiments were also fresh, and the cheese oozed from the juicy patties. As a habit I usually order onion rings when they are offered, because the artistry is truly in the onion rings. French fries are easy to get right, but onion rings aren't so easy. If a place gets the onion rings right, then rest assured about the remainder of the menu. The rings were fantastic, and from the indications on the menu, the batter has some Samuel Addams beer as one of the ingredients. I contemplated ordering the chili burger, but instead, I asked the waiter if I could just get a taste of the chili. I'm particular when it comes to chili, and although this chili was not a disappointment, it lacked enough cumin to lose the signature taste of authentic chili. Fortunately the chili did not contain beans as it was listed as chili con carne. The chili was very tasty, not too spicy, and contained chipotle chilis as one of the ingredients, so although the chili lacked the smokiness that can be provided by the cumin, it did get plenty of smoky character from the chipotle chilis. Lisbon is undergoing somewhat of a resurgence in artisanal burgers and Ground Burger cleanly hits the mark in the artistry of creating a tasty burger. Ground Burger is a clean open format restaurant with a visible kitchen. Available for viewing is not only the beef being ground fresh, but also the buns being made. It's rare to find a combination of hip and utilitarian, but I really like what they've done here. Fresh ingredients, a clean open atmosphere with lots of glass and simple details. This should be a go to destination for any American craving a taste of home or anyone wanting a great burger. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to return to sample the remaining offerings on the menu. read more
