Even though you are by no stretch of the imagination alone in this glorious cave, you can isolate yourself and go back in time - such a remarkable feat of artistry and imagination. Of course, the images are the important thing and they retain their magic. The site is well designed so that you never need be in a crowd - plenty to do, lots of interactive displays and a really good restaurant. Plan to eat lunch or an early dinner there and do book if you want to visit the cave in summer.

While the French speakers get a tour guide, everyone else gets an audio guide. The audio guide (at least the English one) is horrible. We got about half the information the French speakers got, leaving us to wonder around aimlessly wondering what info we weren't getting and waiting. The audio guide was very poorly done as it was a guy saying flowery, but not very informative things about the paintings themselves, attempting to be philosophical. It was hard to follow as they did a poor job pointing out which specific things they were talking about. In the final room, the audio guide literally says "Look over there... now there". We had lots of trouble finding what they were referring to. Maybe my family and I just didn't get it, but overall the tour leads a lot to be wanted. And not in a good way.

It's very Disney like in its promotional style. We visited and toured the fake cave using the English audio guide. It would appear the English audio is not compatible with the tour. We were almost three spots behind the rest of the tour as the tour moved thtough.The tour guide became upset that we were behind and rushed us through without seeing the last two stops. My partner is fluent in French and told her we were not in sync with the rest of the group but she insisted we needed to leave with them. Her manner was one of annoyance. We went to the ticket desk to see if we could be placed back where we were abruptly asked to leave to finish our tour We were given an email address but received no response to our request to finish the tour. We have a house nearby, so we were hoping to know what all was there in order to offer the experience to guests. We never received a reply back.

I highly recommend this wonder-making experience - it's beautiful and has a great gift shop too. The gift store has a small English section, but others a lot of good items to purchase. The cafe was only open from 12:00 to 14:00, there was a small bar with only crepes for food, so eat, or bring food.
