There has been a casino on this site for as long as I can remember. It wasn't always a Grosvenor Casino though, it was rebranded around a year ago when the whole building was given a facelift and a smoking balcony was added and some renovations were done to the exterior of the venue.
I'm not generally the kind of person who goes to casino's often. I have been before as a bit of a work night out and with the lovely Emma S, but I tend to take around £15 and just play roulette for a couple of hours (rather than losing silly amounts of money on games that actually require some kind of skill).
I attended a charity champagne tasting last night at this venue. The ticket was very reasonable and it was going to a good cause (Acorns), so I thought "why not"? First thing to note is that if you're attending an event and you're not a member, they will ask you to sign up (so best to take some ID). The event area is on the 3rd floor and doubles as a poker room. It's quite a dark venue, but there are some nice chandeliers and it's clean and has a definite "function room" vibe to it.
After the tasting we were invited to hit the tables to have a bit of a flutter. I had been given a scratchcard when I signed up and ended up winning a £25 free bet (as well as a roulette card where you could win £10 if your number came up). I ended up splitting my £25 and put half on odds and half on black - I ended up walking away with £22 of real money (so can't be bad). The staff are very helpful and will happily explain the games if you haven't played before (so you won't feel like a wally if you don't know what to do).
The Casino has a bar and a restaurant area. The food is actually supposed to be quite good, but I haven't had a chance to sample this as yet. The bar isn't cheap, but if you're up for a night of high rolling - you will get complimentary drinks bought to you whilst you play.
I would probably go to this venue again for a night out with a few friends. It's not seedy (as I imagine some casino's would be) and as long as you set yourself a limit (even better, take some money out before you go and leave the card at home) you can have a nice evening out for not too much money. You've got to be in it, to win it! read more
