This is a long story but important review. My wife and son were patients here and I needed some…read moredental work done so I figured I'd go here as well. I went in and they assessed my situation and told me I needed a root canal which they would do. With my insurance it would be $1600. I went to the appointment to have the root canal and experienced my worst dental related day I've ever had. He attempted to numb the area locally multiple times and when unsuccessful he tried doing a nerve block which he couldn't do successfully and there was still pain when attempting to drill. When I asked him why he couldn't do it he said "you tell me" which wiped away any confidence I had left in his abilities. He suggested me to a gentle dental kind of place and I left. I then got referred by a friend to an endodontist who was able to get me in about 2 days later. He successfully completed the root canal in about 30 minutes with minimal discomfort. It was also half the price at $800. Lesson learned to always see an endodontist for a root canal. The story gets better. After the root canal I went to a new dentist I was referred to so I could get the crown put on and finish this nightmare. The dentist there was very concerned about the tooth and the path I had taken because she assured me and explained to me with visual aid that a successful crown wasn't possible and the tooth wasn't salvageable from the beginning and shouldn't have been saved but been extracted. So now I'm out $800 and a terrible experience because of dr Gary Joh. Beware of this place.

I was a patient with this office for close to 50 years. In the fall of 2023 and early 2024 I had…read moresome health issues and unfortunately this enabled me to not be able to go to the office to have my teeth cleaned. Once I was able to go, I called the office in March 2024 to schedule a cleaning appointment and was told I couldn't due to a hadn't had a cleaning in two years (it actually wasn't 2 years but getting close to it). I spoke with the office manager and she informed me that it was the office policy that one would have to see the dentist first at a separate appointment before scheduling a cleaning if one had not had a cleaning in 2 years. I have never heard of this type of policy!! Again, I was a patient there for over 50 years. I asked the office manager to look at my chart and my situation but she didn't care. She just kept saying "it's the office policy". I was frustrated and hung up on her. The next thing I know I received a letter from the new owner of the practice informing me that I was dismissed from his office. I did nothing wrong to deserve this. The only thing I did was, I told the office manager she didn't care. Which she apparently did not. I fully know if it was the past owner, which I loved, she would of looked into my situation and I would have been seen for a cleaning without being seen first by the dentist at a separate appointment. It's a shame this new owner, not even knowing me, decided to dismiss a long time patient all because I said the office manager did not care. On a side note, I was able to schedule a cleaning appointment with my husband's office the next day without seeing the dentist first at a separate appointment . They had never heard of an office having a two year cleaning policy. I guess everything happens for a reason and the moral of this story is: if you don't care that an office manager or new owner of this office does not care about their patients then go there.

I went in to see Dr. Bryk because I was convinced I needed a bite guard to stop my nighttime clenching. He actually refused to give me one. He could have seen me and thought CHA-CHING and given me one anyway. Instead he was explained why I was wrong and said no. He referred me to the right type of specialist I've been looking for for a long time. Mostly I want to rave about Melissa, my hygienist. She was militant about getting every bit of plaque off my teeth. She did not do a fluff and buff and smile-for-the-mirror trick. I've had that and wondered why my appointment was so fast. Unfortunately for Melissa, I had bad plaque from a year and a half of my jaw being locked shut and my fear of humiliating hygienists. I told her up front to please not educate me, a middle aged woman, about the values of flossing. Flossing gives me headaches and I'm a chronic migraine sufferer. I can't say I'm the best flosser! She was completely respectful. She quickly learned I still have a sense of humor about it all and we had a couple good laughs. She seemed to ENJOY getting every last bit. The most important thing is she never once humiliated me. My teeth haven't been this clean in years. I'm loving to smile in the mirror now. I can't quit rubbing my tongue on the slinky insides of my teeth. I feel so clean!!! i've been longing for years to find a good hygienist attached to a good dentist who won't gouge me. I drove from Royal Oak to this place to have this good experience. I thank Kenika who works there for referring me. She knew I'm easily offended and would be nervous so she offered me the laughing gas stuff. Turns out there's no extra charge for it. I passed. Melissa was funny enough! So am I! If such an embarrassing and humiliating thing as getting plaque off could be fun too...who knew! I'm just grateful. It's been so long since I've felt as though I was respected as a client. My gratitude is deep!!! And my teeth are clean. Oh my gosh, SO CLEAN!
