The program that they have set-up, Reading Partners, is well organized and (from what I can see) probably helps the kids much more than typical volunteer tutoring does. Even if your child has some exposure to another language, do not mention it -- tell them that you only speak English, even if it is not true. If you do, your child will be locked into the ESL (English as a second language) level designation. I think they call it ELAC, but you child will be learning English as a foreigner. The Mountain View voice has written several articles over the years about the ELAC program, and none of them have been positive. To be fair, the MVWSD has made some changes to the program, but in general, ELAC students are "stigmatized" (a retired Bubb educator actually used that word) and it puts them at a disadvantage to their peers. The Voice even commented that the consequence of being in the ELAC program even in elementary school can be so broad reaching as to affect them through high school and into college. I do not want to see other kids go through the struggles our family has gone through with this misguided program. Good luck.

The place is in an apartment and it's really small inside, almost no room for the kids to walk around, just a living room area. Everything is so packed everywhere. The toys are not disinfected and cleaned. I saw several kids put toys in their mouth and little ones grabbing that same toy that was not cleaned afterward. Stained carpets. No parking, your lucky if you find something on the street. The babysitter is nice but she is not enthusiastic and energetic. She's really boring and looks mean. I always got worried to leave my child their because she didn't seem like a "fun" babysitter who would play with my daughter and be "upbeat". She seemed very structured and not fun at all; which isn't bad in some cases but you want your child to be around energetic, fun and friendly people because they're children they love happy people and people who play with them and off the bat, meeting her I did not get that at all. I wanted someone who loves my child as if its their own, but this lady doesn't live by that motto. You'll know if you ever come to meeting her. After picking my child up from here several times she had been super fussy and throwing tantrums, and she neverrrr did that before, I get that when you take them to a new place that could happen but it's been like that several times. She doesn't feed them as much as they should be fed. My child gets home super hungry and crying because she only ate a little bit and I know my child's schedule and when she eats and how much of it and I made sure the sitter knows, but it continued to happen. This is what did it for me and made me consider placing my daughter somewhere else and I did. I just wanted to write this review so that parents know exactly how it is because some of these good reviews is what I read before taking my daughter there and it wasn't like that at all. I care so much about who my child is with and around and I thought this place would do it for me but it definitely isn't what I expected and hoped it'd be for my child. I'm disappointed and she should consider changing a lot of things.

He is pretty flexible looking at requirement of young children who are coming to this place to study mathematics. Shrishti is a great teacher with a firm voice and making sure young kids have the focus while doing the exercises. Yes, there are other teachers too but not all of them are high school students. It has been a month and I can see the progress.

Completely a great experience, and Leena really knocked herself out to help my reluctant math…read morestudent. My son is very bright but is nowhere near having issues with excessive ambition. I worked hard with him prior to 5th grade to get him competent in solving simple expressions with fractions. By the time school started, all this learning had somehow leaked out of his sneakers and disappeared, to my distress as well as his teacher's. Because of his math reluctance and poor retention, my son would have been starting 6th grade with a significant disadvantage. His mother and I wanted to help him catch up using a teaching service. We researched Kumon and found that, although cheaper, the focus is on all subjects and not exclusively math, and that the procedure is to have pupils do huge stacks of worksheets with relatively little teacher supervision. This would not have been a good match for my son. Leena's Mathnasium is exactly not like Kumon in that the student-teach ratio is about 1 to 1. She begins with a thorough evaluation of the student's existing math capability, she customizes a training plan for the student, and she executes the plan. At the end of the program there is a no-charge second evaluation, and what do you know? My son's math skills had significantly improved. Lastly, Leena did a pile of extra work researching math topics taught in my son's new school district, and tried hard to motivate him and prepare him for his new school Excellent work, Leena. I would recommend your service to a friend without hesitation.

This review is long overdue!…read more My son, Evan, started at Catalyst as a kindergartener, and he has grown so much since being here. Catalyst has truly been one of the best additions to Eaton. Ms. Roselyn & Ms. Kamiko genuinely care about the children like their own. From the home-cooked meals to the close-knit, family atmosphere, you can really feel how much love and care goes into everything they do. As working parents, it gives us such peace of mind knowing my son is somewhere he feels safe, comfortable, and cared for. They focus not only on academics, but also expose the kids to so much--baking, art, crafts, sports, communication skills, and social-emotional learning. They encourage the children to be independent thinkers while also teaching them how to be kind, confident, and good people. Ms. Monica does a great job of coordinating the program and the family events. What matters most to me is that Evan feels comfortable expressing himself and sharing his feelings there.
