It is a small school with a true family feel. Every teacher knows the students by name, and that sense of care is felt daily. The office staff is very responsive. Any time there has been a question or issue, we have always received a quick response and prompt action. The elective teachers deserve special recognition as well. Ms. Jeannie (Science), Ms. Edith (Spanish), and Ms. Zoe (Music) have all done an amazing job creating hands‑on, engaging lessons that truly keep the kids excited and involved. Most importantly, we cannot say enough wonderful things about my daughter's TK teacher, Ms. Weiss. My daughter absolutely loves her, and when I asked why, she said, "Because she listens to everything." That alone speaks volumes about the level of care, respect, and attention Ms. Weiss gives her students every single day. She is incredibly engaging, warm, and thoughtful, and she goes above and beyond to make learning fun by celebrating all kinds of occasions, decorating the classroom with her own amazing props and costumes for all the children, and going all out to make the school year special. Ms. Weiss is truly one of a kind. We have seen tremendous growth in our daughter under Ms. Weiss's guidance. Academically, she is excelling in reading and math, and her writing and reading skills have made huge strides. Even more meaningful is how genuinely interested she now is in reading and writing outside of the classroom. We have also seen amazing growth in her interpersonal skills such as confidently greeting others, engaging with new friends, and learning how to reason and communicate thoughtfully. All of this is thanks to Ms. Weiss and the strong foundation she has helped build during these critical early education years. We are incredibly grateful for the lasting impact she has had on our daughter's growth. While we are so sad to be leaving Ms. Weiss's class soon, we know the lessons, confidence, and love of learning will stay with our daughter for life. I also want to give a special thank you to my daughter's Pre‑K teachers, Ms. Sonal and Ms. Gauri. They did an incredible job setting a strong foundation in phonics and helping her transition from daycare into a more structured school environment. The early support was crucial to her confidence and success at the school in the beginning, and we are so grateful for the role they played in shaping her learning journey. We've also seen a noticeable improvement in our daughter's early reading skills and art work. Extended care has also been a big plus. Ms. Hiba is hands-on, keeps the kids motivated, and uses little rewards (like stickers) that actually get them excited. The office staff is always friendly, and the leadership is very present. Ms. Swathi (Head of School) and Dipali (Assistant Director) greet families at the gate daily - sounds small, but it makes a huge difference and really shows how engaged they are. Happy students - no bullying....this is probably because it is a relatively small school. 2 or 3 classrooms for each grade. The more you are immersed in a community the lower the chances for anger. The moms are relaxed, fun and hardworking. Set up, clean up...you name it and they are getting their hands blistered! Many families outside our neighborhood choose to Open Enroll and transfer to Sutter - smart move. Mr Funcheon - I don't think I have ever seen him angry. He values the parents and is extremely thankful in his praise. He is loved by all.

My son has been attending Haman since Kindergarten, we left briefly in the 2nd grade - very beginning for about a month and a half to attend Washington Open - long story short it didn't work out for us and we came back. YES, we left the Holy Grail of schools and came back to Haman. Why you ask? The Teachers, the curriculum and the kids. *Disclaimer: I only mention WO in my review because it's the only other school I have first hand experience with, so I use it in my review of Haman as a point of reference. I don't want to give the impression that it's not a good school, it's a GREAT school - just wasn't for us. The good... We've been blessed to have the BEST Teachers every year we've been at Haman. They've all had just the right ratio of Love to Discipline. They truly care about my kiddo and often went above and beyond to make sure my son was learning, but also not bored - He's a whiz with numbers and was often accommodated with more advanced work. One of the surprises we experienced at WO was the fact they didn't emphasize or have a dedicated computer lab. My son LOVES his computer lab days and it's helped him IMMENSELY with his math skills. He was more than bummed to find out that it was not on the radar at WO. No, the computers at Haman are not the latest and the greatest, but they are more than sufficient and they offer the programs he loves to use. The great thing is, that these same programs are accessible at home as well with his school login so I don't feel so guilty letting him play on the computer for long periods of time (Anything to get his mind off of Minecraft, It's like crack I tell ya!) They have a good mix of kids and backgrounds at the school, and for the most part everyone is friendly. Like all schools you're going to have some bad eggs, but as a whole I find the kids to be cool peeps. I hate to turn this into a this school versus that school but I do want to point out another difference I noticed in our brief time at WO. This may seem inconsequential to some, but I noticed the girls tended to play with just the girls and the boys just the boys. I found this odd coming from Haman where they boys and girls played freely and happily together. I'm not really sure what to make of that, but it did strike me as odd - I expect that in the older grades when hormones start raging and boys and girls suddenly come down with bad cases of "cooties", but not so much with the young-ins. The Principal situation seems to have calmed down. We've had 3 in the past 4 years. Nothing nefarious going on, 1 retired and 1 accepted a better position with the County. The last one Ms. Wakefield seems to be doing a good job. From what I understand she has been well received by the other Teachers. I do like the fact that she was previously a Teacher at Haman so she has a better understanding of the wants and needs of the school. She doesn't seem as approachable as the previous Principals, but maybe it's me just picking up weird vibes. Now the not so good... Money, Money, Money or a lack-of to be more accurate. This is a problem that MOST schools seem to have and it shows in the lack of field trips, outside play equipment, after school activities, the arts etc. The PTA tries desperately to raise money by various functions which leads me into my next complaint in regards to the school. Little to NO parent involvement besides the usual suspects of the PTA! Look, I get it. This is a working class kinda school. Most kids here have at least 1, but often times BOTH parents working full time, but come on I know more can be done! The PTA even goes out of their way trying to hold events on off times, the weekend etc to get more families out and participating in these school functions. You don't have to donate money, not even really volunteer time if you can't make it, but come out to the festivals and the bake sale, flea markets etc and bring your kids. The kids love it and they take pride in their school when they are actively involved in not only the hard work of class work, but the fun stuff too. I volunteer quite a bit, mostly in my Son's class, but even I know I could be doing more. I will say though it seems like every year it does get a little better so at least it's trending in the right direction! To sum it up, I love Haman, my Kiddo loves Haman and more parent participation could turn this school from a really good school to a really great school.

Recap son was not even there one year and he had fallen more behind then he already was. His teacher was kind but office personnel especially principal was aweful. My son now has trauma from his experience at this school. He was bullied daily and even followed home and assaulted. He was daily ridiculed and fat shamed. My complaints only fell on deaf ears. This principal's lack of care for my son was supported by its district. Not safe, My son was flipped off by an adult in a car at the parking lot. My son was refused lunch in the cafeteria. My son was forced to clean and sweep as a consequence for dropping a grape on the floor by male janitor. This school is a little hidden gem in the middle of Santa Clara…read more We are very, very, very happy we found it. Staff is very kind and helpful. Teachers are very nice and experimented. It's a catholic school and it's a very welcoming environment to anyone: all ethnicities, backgrounds, religions... They will not force you to something or treat you differently because of A or B. What I really like is indeed how diverse it is and that it also offer a good "work-life balance" for the little ones. St Lawrence offers a good education, with values and has a great after school program. It is competitive the right amount for us. I visited several other private schools but they were either not diverse, or way too competitive, 1 fit all style, and with too many helicopter parents. I want my kids to have a nurturing childhood, discover different kinds of people and not develop little robots that would do 5th grade maths in 2nd grade. It is so easy to fall in that trap, especially now and here in the Silicon Valley. What I also loved is that they offer Spanish, Drama and art (with a real specialized teachers) embedded in the curriculum. They have a recreative after school program (Crafts and games), but they also offer thematic programs (chess, programming, art, magician...) for a small extra fee. They have a competitive swim team on site (amazing!). Some things had to be stopped during Covid (after school, swim team), but it is my understanding that these will re-open in September 2021. Cost wise, it is way more affordable than most private schools in the Bay Area, and you can apply for aid as well. The school re-opened part time in Oct 2020 and full time in Jan 2021. Was such a help for the kids (and parents) I imagine. The only "complaint" I would have, is that they should do a little more anticipation and be better at organizing or setting up things (for example pool reopening, Science teacher coming in person etc.) But I blame most of it on a challenging 2020 year - for all of us.
