I've gone from a couch potato to an award winning athlete, earning medals in local, regional and international competition including a 2nd place in sparring in Korea. The school has a family atmosphere where both adults and kids are nurtured as people as well as martial artists. There are a number of families where both parents and children are students. However, Renshi Andrew at Alpha is a rare and special talent as an educator. He has boundless focus, patience and perseverance with all of the students. He is a big bear of a guy who captivates the kids, draws them out of their shells and keeps them in motion. At the same time, he never lets up on the message of control, discipline and respect. He has made all the difference for our son. Andrew and Michelle have built a warm community around the studio, which gives all of the students and families a familiar place to come, gather, watch and learn. However, that is as far as it goes, after a few months of being there, you start to see through the facade that is this academy. The owner/head instructor is more interested in giving you life advice than he is coaching and teaching people bjj. I can't tell you the amount of times I overheard him giving people advice or having a discussion with someone else just to tear them down and be unrelenting in his "advice". Locker room is constantly filled with negativity in which people very clearly express their fear for this man, yet are too afraid to stand up or say anything about it. Zero regards for safety in any way regarding Covid as well, have even heard him say that if you're sick, it isn't an excuse not to train. Very clearly does not respect individual peoples opinions.
