Humane Society thrift store - Lebanon

Recently while traveling from Myerstown to Lebanon in pursuit of all things thrift we drove past…read morethis store in the city. Anyone that knows me knows I can't just do a drive by and told hubby we HAD to stop. Little did I know (and since we don't know the area) that getting back to it after we passed it would be a challenge. One way roads and road blocks, alleyways, and vacant lots with no direct exit points to the alley behind it made hubby very frustrated. The location in the urban spawl of Lebanon wasn't the greatest either so I had my fingers crossed that it was worth all the effort it took to get there. Moral of story: set your gps - don't pass it! It's a mess trying to go back! They had a graveled, run down lot to the side of the building that housed several cars. There were a few rugged (possibly homeless?) folks smoking and standing around the loading area. Not sure if they worked there or were going thru incoming donations. The place overall had a very concerning exterior, run down, and didn't feel very secure. However with hubby in tow, and being that it was daylight we ventured inside. If you come in thru the lot you enter on a lower level and into a small vestibule of sorts. From there you can proceed to walk to a larger room with small furniture pieces, books, home items, toys, pet supplies etc. This space is VERY narrow and congested. Social distancing is impossible, as is walking past someone in one of the rows. Also it has a strong, foul odor. I couldn't wait to wrestle my way to the stairs in hope that the upper level would be much better. Lighting upstairs was brighter and it did have a more open feel. The store consists of a series of rooms, each one housing a different department. There was a vintage clothing area, where the majority of items were not vintage (unless you consider early 2000's vintage) but there were a few older, stained pieces. However conditions weren't the greatest and although the smell improved, that strange odor was still present. I browsed through some of the other departments but wasn't impressed with anything. Most of the clothing was smashed together on overflowing tight racks and it was hard to really get in there and move pieces around. Quality wasn't great either. The front room where the cashier is located has knick knacks and their "better" inventory of glass and such. Prices ranged from cheap to expensive. If I had to say something positive I will say the middle room containing glassware and kitchen items was probably the best. The shelves were spaced out and prices were fair. If you're looking for vintage dishes or glasses this is your spot. They also had a huge selection of used yarns but prices were higher than other area thrift stores for the same type. Also I do like that this thrift's proceeds benefit the Humane League, an organization I believe in. Both of us were ready to get out of this place and I don't see myself returning. I swear that whatever that smell was got stuck to us. I could faintly smell it on me the rest of the day. WORTH MENTIONING: Hubby asked to use the rest room and was told a firm no. So make sure you "go" before you go. NOT stroller or kid friendly. Items downstairs are much lower priced than upper. Wouldn't shop here alone after dark.

One of the better Grocery Outlets I've been to and certainly the largest. This location had…read moreseveral isles of non grocery items; including clothing, household supplies and decor, kids toys, and linens. It's set up a little differently than the other locations. The isles are larger and the shelves higher but it's not difficult to find what you need. Produce and refrigerated items line the entire back wall, two freezers are a few isles in from the end. Scattered throughout the store are little kiosks and skids of specials and non food items. Make sure you check out all the nooks and crannies in and around the registers. I buy avocados weekly from one of the locations closest to my house and their quality is always a gamble. The three I bought here were some of the best I've ever bought...anywhere! My favorite aspect of this location is their location right next to the thrift store! Double score! Four stars because the employees all seemed a little off. Customer service was lacking. When I inquired where I would find something the response I got was " I have no idea". A better response would have been "I'll have to find out for you". At the register a woman asked to use the phone to call her ride since her cell phone was dead. Three employees, all probably with cell phones in their pockets, looked at each other dumbfounded and told her they don't know if they can allow that. The scene was pitiful and obviously wasn't going to be resolved until I offered up my phone for her use. I hope the managers take note of this review as these employees should be ashamed of themselves!

Back in the day this store used to be known as the "basket warehouse" and pretty much lived up to…read moreit's name selling baskets and faux greenery and flowers. Smart move on the owners part to rename and rebrand as Home Decor Warehouse because they sell so much more than just baskets and fake flowers! Although they are right on route 72 the location is rather off the beaten trail. They share the building with the gem store but otherwise are the only retailer nearby in an area that's fairly rural. Don't avoid shopping here because of the distance or you'll miss out, especially if you are into the current trend; modern farmhouse. I'm pretty sure they would make Joanna Gaines proud! Anything and everything modern farmhouse you'll find, plus a few surprises for indoors and out. Make sure you allow yourself ample time to go up and down each isle because there's always something new to discover. Prices aren't deep discount but they are reasonable and the inventory is unique enough that if you see it here you won't find it anywhere else. They also still sell faux flowers and greenery but the majority of the store is household items and decor. You'll also find some furniture pieces and they do have a room set up of outdoor room displays with everything for sale. Even if you don't buy the way they do the displays will give you tons of inspiration for your own home. This past Sunday I stopped in and their outdoor planters were 50% off. I'm talking high quality glazed ceramic pots in all sizes. The selection was picked thru if you're looking for a pair but they still had a variety of individual sizes. The staff is always very pleasant too and will be happy to help you load your car if need be. The older woman at the front cash register is the owner's mother and very personable and also eager to assist. WORTH NOTING: Closed Mondays.
