You'll have to ask for steak sauce, ketchup etc. because they will not give it to you up front unless you specifically ask for it. Place seemed clean, restrooms included. Go for the lunch hour deals to save some bucks. Also, they're very big on making everything about "die Damen" vs "die Herren" with the customers, even on their menu ("Mrs. Rumpsteak" for a smaller portion and "Mr. Rumpsteak" for a bigger portion) and make a big deal out of a guy ordering a "girly" drink and a woman ordering a beer. Which is kinda annoying. Personally I wish they would let that go but most of the clientele there seem to like that kind of prejudiced banter.

The pumpkin soup was very watery, not robust at all and extremely, extremely salty. Because I had not eaten since the day prior, I nearly finished the soup. But I could not justify finishing the risotto. It lacked flavor!! The only thing giving it flavor was the little salami pieces! That's it! And there wasn't enough of those to try to uphold the dish. Also, the service was slacking big time compared to other restaurants I have visited in the area. Do yourself a favor and avoid this one.

I expected more for the price. The service was very attentive, but almost to a fault. Every couple minutes we were interrupted. We sat upstairs, where there are four small tables crowded together in a tiny space. All the tables were occupied and we felt very observed, aware that everyone in the tiny room could hear our every word. It was uncomfortable. Our evening ended on a particularly sour note when we asked for the check and handed over our gift certificate. A few minutes later, we were smugly informed that the gift certificate -- which we received during COVID and did not include an expiration date -- had expired and the restaurant refused to accept it. Ugh. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Schlumachers.
