There is no printed menu, they just bring out the different cuts of the day and you pick the one you prefer. Ambiance was also excellent. The restaurant is in the basement of a building. Once I walked down the stairs, the hallway opened into a room with a fire place with a grille, upon which sat aluminum wrapped mysteries. I was surprised and delighted to discover that they cooked my lamb on the grate, and that one of the mystery ovals was a baked potato that was served with my lamb. For dessert, a round mystery was the baked apple. Staff were professional, courteous, and efficient. I did not feel at all awkward eating solo, and had a pleasant, peaceful meal, where I could gaze at the fireplace as I ate. All was delicious, and I would definitely eat here again.

Back then it was a thriving restaurant and one of the places to be in Antwerp if you were looking for a good steak. I am not sure if it is me who has changed or the restaurant but I have been traveling more to good steakhouses all over the world and I found my last visit to De Veehandel unimpressive vs some other of my faves. The starter (Tomate Crevette) was taste-wise not bad but presentation was a bit sloppy. Also the steak is just a-ok, nothing special. In addition, I feel like the service is just average. All-in all just a meh experience. Nothing much to complain but I wasn't wowed either. I really think De Veehandel has had it's best days and there are better places to eat steak in Belgium.

We spent 100's of Euros and ordered 4 different cuts. Not one was what it supposed to be. The rib-eye was a gigantic piece of black fat with a small bit of dry pink flesh attached.The' fillet pure' which should be the tenderest part of beef was a 39 euro piece of chewy old rump steak.
