4.5 Stars...the rooms could use a fresh coat of paint!…read more Price: Awesome! Approximately $150/night, which is reasonable for the location and Norway. Location: Awesome! The Airport Bus will drop you off at Tourist Information/Fish Market, which is basically basically right in front of the hotel, and right in the middle of Bergen. All the boats nearby whether you're going on boat tour or taking the Norled ferry. Cleanliness: our room was definitely older and could use some new paint, but the rest of the common areas were great. Staff: I didn't talk to them much, but seemed nice enough. Room: Good enough for the price. Quite large with a big lcd tv. Fresh coat of paint needed, but everything was clean enough. BREAKFAST: EPIC! Smoked Salmon, Baked Salmon, Herring, Crab Salad, Waffles, sausages, eggs, fresh breads, fruits, cheeses...deliciousness! You could eat enough that you only need a snack for lunch.Better than some buffets in Las Vegas. Once I even sneakily made myself a salmon sandwich to go...ssshhh! ;) There is also coffee and tea available all day long, which is godsend in a country where coffee and tea can easily run you $3-5/cup. The hotel is so well located that it was easy to stop in for a 20min coffee break between sight seeing. A fresh coat paint would make this a 5 Star! (Note: At time of this review, the US dollar was up 50% against the Norway kroner...$1 = 7.5kr vs $1 = 5kr just a couple years ago)

The shape of the place is what the issue was, calling it a shithole is being polite and I don't have enough room or time to list everything. RESTAURANT REVIEW ONLY Hit the buffet here after hiking…read moreup/down Mount Floyen for 4 hours. Located inside hotel and has much available seating. Smart casual vibe. Salad bar: Small, but has fresh seafood topping in salad and good lox. Filled up virtually on the salad bar alone. Soup was extremely salty. Hot food: selection is minimal & unimpressive- rice was meh, both cod fish entree & potatoes were very bland, turkey stew was passable. Dessert: Surprisingly disliked most - only strawberry mousse is worth mentioning - and there is no ice cream. Service: Virtually non-existent. Had to get up to ask for water refills. Plates did get cleared, but infrequently. Bottom Line: Nothing special. Given many options in area, would opt for different restaurant in future.

Scandic Bergen City is a strange hotel. It has two buildings, one on each side of the street. On…read moreone side is a very old, dated hotel with smelly rooms and a tiny elevator. On the other side, the rooms are updated, the interior is modern, and there are multiple elevators. We initially were placed in two rooms on the old hotel side and insisted on changing. The rooms smelled, looked like something out of a prison - all grey and devoid of character. For the price, it was absolutely ridiculous. When we moved next door, the room improved vastly, with nice light wood furniture, a TV, a pleasant bathroom and a nice lobby. One big downside in summer is that the rooms become SO hot, and the windows are difficult to open. They are large and could really break a finger if they close so I would not recommend this to families with small children during the summer. You have to sleep with the windows open, or burn up all night long. The street is noisy and distracting. The meeting facilities were nice though and the front desk in the new hotel was helpful. The location in the middle of Bergen downtown and easy walking distance to nearby restaurants and sightseeing. I would say it's a decent hotel, and maybe one of the best of Bergen (I don't know), but the price is quite high for what you really receive, at least when comparing to other hotels in the same range in France, Britain, USA, etc..

The airport hotel is about 10 mins walk from Bergen airport (when you see the information kiosk, take that exit. When you're outside facing the "Bergen?" Sign, turn right and walk straight. I was here for a weekend event onsite so it was very convenient to be able to get to the venue and my "temporary home" quickly and easily on foot after I come out of the Bergen airport. I was able to check into my room when I arrived shortly before noon 2 days ago, and had time to unpack and walk around the area before my event started that late afternoon. I am happy that the event organizer arranged our room rate to include full board, as the buffet meals at this hotel were delicious! I enjoyed all 3 meals everyday during my stay here, as the varieties everyday were very good. I had reindeer stew as part of my first night's dinner and it was excellent! I also enjoyed the halibut last night and the salmon this afternoon for lunch. The melons they had at every meal, in addition to the many dessert choices, were sweet and delicious. The room was basic like most Scandinavian hotels that I have stayed, but this one also has a nice couch which could be a nice lounging daybed to just relax in the room. I didn't get to stay in the room too much as I was at the event in one of the ballrooms most of the time from morning to evening, but I had good sleep and rest both nights during my stay. The ballroom is beautiful and the staff maintain the place nice and clean. Breakfast starts at 4am so I recommend anyone who has a early morning flight to catch to stay here, and event organizers expecting attendees coming from different parts of Norway or anywhere in the world to have their conference or event here.
