Scandic Bergen City is a strange hotel. It has two buildings, one on each side of the street. On one side is a very old, dated hotel with smelly rooms and a tiny elevator. On the other side, the rooms are updated, the interior is modern, and there are multiple elevators.
We initially were placed in two rooms on the old hotel side and insisted on changing. The rooms smelled, looked like something out of a prison - all grey and devoid of character. For the price, it was absolutely ridiculous.
When we moved next door, the room improved vastly, with nice light wood furniture, a TV, a pleasant bathroom and a nice lobby.
One big downside in summer is that the rooms become SO hot, and the windows are difficult to open. They are large and could really break a finger if they close so I would not recommend this to families with small children during the summer.
You have to sleep with the windows open, or burn up all night long. The street is noisy and distracting.
The meeting facilities were nice though and the front desk in the new hotel was helpful. The location in the middle of Bergen downtown and easy walking distance to nearby restaurants and sightseeing.
I would say it's a decent hotel, and maybe one of the best of Bergen (I don't know), but the price is quite high for what you really receive, at least when comparing to other hotels in the same range in France, Britain, USA, etc.. read more
