Naturally we contacted our nameless insurance company who sent out an estimator to survey the loss. Soon we got a check for a whopping $1,017! (Don't spend it all in one place!) We reviewed BBB, Angie's List and talked with a number of friends and neighbors. Eastern Home Repair's name kept coming up. We called, and Chris Web, the Owner/Manager came out and personally reviewed our damage. He was really confident his company was the right one for the job. Chris' personally delivered estimate was almost $7,000. I showed him the $1,017 check from the insurance company and he said "Russ, I cannot even buy the needed materials for that money. Don't worry about the insurance company, I'll handle it." End of Part One. Part Two. The insurance company wrote another check; the two checks added up exactly to Chris' $7,000 bid!! As for the work, his crew was professional, on time, knowledgeable, friendly and overall hard workers; they represented Eastern Home Repairs well! Great work, complete cleanup, outgoing crew went the extra mile and even replaced our rose bush singed by the fire! Chris, presented me with the final bill, which was almost $200 below his initial estimate; how often does that happen? Because of the professional work accomplished, I gave Chris the $200 to do as he saw fit in tipping his crew. How often does that happen? If you are looking for that right home repair company stop at the "E's" and pick Eastern Home Repair; you'll be glad you did. If there is a means of contact through this review, I would be happy to speak with anyone about this quality organization that takes over and favorably goes beyond expectations.

Very frustrating experience and waste of time to say the least. We had one concern , just one…read moremind you, and that was regarding how they were using an aggressive round sander on our home wood siding which is over 100 yrs old and has a dutch lap boards type siding and did not want the boards sanded to the point it changed the shape of the board itself. Only after a few days of hand scraping his painter quit and they then proceeded to cancel all of our projects on the contract as the office manager informed us the owner didn't think he could satisfy us, so all the work and the contract was cancelled. So basically it sounded like the owner doesn't respond well to customer concerns, it's either his way or the highway which is unusual for a business as most business I have worked with don't just bail after one concern by the customer is voiced. Just left the house half scraped and looking terrible. I also left 2 VM's and a text requesting the owner to call me back. He never bothered to return my calls or respond to my texts and let his office assistant / mgr give us the news he was cancelling everything. When I hire a man to do work for me I would expect him to do the right thing and at least return my calls and texts especially if he has just decided to bail and not do the work, and not shove that off for someone else to do. However They are refunding 100% of our initial deposit, which is the absolute right thing to do, so they get one star for that alone. Outside of that they would get no stars considering how they conducted themselves. The experience was pretty much a waste of time as the only thing I have now is a bunch of exposed wood on the sides of the house which looks horrible, a ton of paint chips on the ground that I've had to clean up myself once they informed us the painter was not coming back. We did have another painter come to the house and will be doing the job correctly using a flat sander for these type boards and said that was no problem at all and he would never use a round aggressive sander on dutch lap type wood siding. I guess this company has enough work that they conduct business this way and just walk away from a job in progress , leave your home looking terrible and leaving a mess for the customer to clean up. Being as the owner conducts himself this way I consider it good riddance that we are no longer working with this company.

this is a letter that i wrote to the owner but can not find an active e mail account to send it…read more feel free to read it and keep in mind that the $3,000 quote was before the recognition of the extent of the water damage. the active bill now is over $12,000 as the entire bathroom is being removed and reconstructed from the foundation up. all new floor joists, sub floor, pan, electrical, plumbing, walls, and tile. the letter reads as follows: I'm addressing you to convey my genuine concern in regard to the work that you did in my home when I initially moved in. The issue is somewhat complex and relatively straight forward at the same time. The complex element includes the notion that, as I understood, we were at least acquaintances and for that reason I chose you to oversee the remodeling of my home for handicapped accessibility. You worked swiftly and were mindful of my budget. I thought your ideas were great, and you and your team made my home beautiful and functional. I truly appreciate your efforts and recognize the fact that you allowed me to pay one installment up front, and the other upon receipt of my insurance settlement. I am aware that the second payment took over a year to come through, but as I understood you were aware that I was as anxiously awaiting the court to settle my claim as much as you were interested in collecting for your services. As soon as I received my settlement I cleared my balance with you. I assumed that the legal delay in my settlement did not interfere with our initial agreement of payment scheduling. The straight forward element of this correspondence is quite disheartening. Upon recognizing a serious water problem in my driveway, my electrician discovered that the entire floor of my remodeled shower was root of the issue. I had you come out to professionally assess the situation, and you confirmed that the floor, subfloor, and supporting joists needed to be replaced. You gave me a quote of around $3,000. When I inquired as to why my relatively new bathroom was failing to perform whilst my 30 year old bathroom on the other end of the house that was not remodeled is in fine condition, you informed me that I was not routinely caulking the grout lines. I was never informed that I was to routinely caulk anything. You told me that you would try to put me on your schedule for March or April to begin repairs. I texted you to see if you were going to work with me in regard to cost and my responsibility with respect to the percentage of that cost I should incur, and I never heard from you again. In the two years that have transpired since my last inquiry to you, I have had four different licensed contractors assess the situation, and all four agree on two elements; all of the repairs that you mentioned are indeed required, and more poignantly, the cause of the failure was "poor craftsmanship". When I had the shower floor removed an electrical conduit was revealed to have been cut during the original install and taped back together. This taped conduit was resting in a pool of water that has been there for seven years. It is a wonder as to how that didn't cause catastrophic events including fire and or electrocution. I must admit that I was generally upset initially upon the discovery of the failing bathroom, but what bothers me most is the uncanny similarities of the four independent diagnoses of "poor craftsmanship". It was as though all four of the independent contractors had deliberated in a jury room and came back with that phrase in unison. Not one of them was an acquaintance of mine, and not one of them mentioned anything about me routinely caulking grout lines. Each contractor quoted me roughly the same estimate as you had, concluding in the range of $3,000 and one of them will start working on it at the end of this month. It is disconcerting to me that this situation has occurred, and I simply want you to know that I am very disappointed in the manner that you handled it.
