My partner and I went to the Greyhound last Sunday for lunch and found the food to be very good. The service not so good, but the food was nice. On that basis we have just come back from a second visit, this time I took my parents as well. Three of us went for roast beef dinners and my Mum went for the Sea Bass in Mediterranean sauce which was tomato passata with loads of olives and caper berries in it. The roast dinners were mainly fine, although the skin of the roast potatoes were like leather and the veg consisted of broccoli, cauliflower, new potato's and then carrots carrots carrots.oh, and on top of that some carrot and swede mash. A bit of carrot overkill!
The main gripe though was with the fish and the customer service. When, at the end of the meal, my Mum dared to comment to the landlord that the sauce was too strong for a delicate fish like Sea Bass and that there was far too much of it it was met with what I can only describe as contempt. I tried the sauce myself, and it was very, very acidic, presumably from pickled capers and it was also quite salty. I let it go until we had finished and paid and my party had left the pub. I stayed behind and told the landlord I thought the fact that he hadn't even said sorry when my Mum had been unhappy with her meal was rather poor. To this he replied why should I? It's personal taste. I don't know what school of customer service he went to but I find that outrageous! I won't be going there again, and if you are thinking of doing so I suggest you be prepared to swallow whatever you are given as the chances of any problems being rectified judging by my experience are pretty slim.
