Booked a last minute roundtrip MTL-NYC ticket about an hour before finding out extreme weather conditions in NYC had cancelled my reason for going. I called customer service immediately and after speaking to a customer service agent for over a half hour, was told that the only refund I could be offered on my $200+ ticket was $34.50. A 15% refund on a ticket cancelled during extreme weather conditions isn't customer service; it's excessively punitive and unreasonable. I am writing this review to share a very troubling experience I had while traveling with Greyhound. My mother and I traveled from New York to Montreal on a night bus scheduled to depart at midnight on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. We arrived slightly late at 12:03 a.m., but the bus had not yet departed. Our tickets were quickly checked by an agent, and we were allowed to board the bus without any issue. The driver appeared to be busy dealing with a technical problem and did not pay much attention to passengers boarding. The trip started normally. About five hours later, when we were close to the U.S.-Canada border, the driver decided to check tickets again. At that point, we realized we had made a genuine mistake: our tickets were for Monday, January 12 instead of Tuesday, January 13. We immediately apologized for the mistake. However, the driver responded very aggressively and repeatedly told us to "get out of the bus," refusing to have any discussion. He stepped outside and waited for us to leave. It took me a moment to realize he was serious. I explained that it was around 5 a.m., we were in the middle of nowhere, I had no Wi-Fi or phone service, and I could not reasonably leave my mother stranded in the cold. This behavior showed a complete lack of basic customer service and empathy. The driver then threatened to call the police if we did not get off the bus. I pointed out that our tickets had already been checked before boarding and that this issue should not have been discovered five hours into the trip. At that point, the driver offered to let us continue the journey if we paid him $40 USD in cash ($20 each). We felt forced to accept, as we had no realistic alternative to get home. The money was taken directly by the driver, not through any official Greyhound process. After paying, we were allowed back onto the bus. Another passenger later told me that he had made the same ticket mistake and had been charged $100 USD in cash by the driver before boarding, which the driver also put directly into his pocket. This experience felt like extortion, not customer service. I do not believe it is acceptable--or legal--for a driver to demand cash payments from passengers in order to continue a trip, especially under threats and in unsafe conditions. I am extremely disappointed and concerned by this experience. I hope Greyhound takes this seriously and addresses this type of behavior, as it reflects very poorly on the company. read more

I bought a ticket and cancelled it just 5 minutes later because I found easier way to get to New York from Montreal (Kangaride, ridesharing) but Greyhound refuses to give my money back. They just give a voucher that I don't need at all. I don't recommend it unless there is the only option available to you ! read more

Bus didn't show up. Dispatcher doesn't have a way to reach driver. Greyhound staff doesn't know where bus stop is. They gave me 3 addresses to try. I took Ubers costing me over a hundred bucks when the bus ticket was $25. After missing my bus again and again I was told that it's my own fault for being at the wrong stop, I was blamed for, I was left without cash for food, a dead cellphone, stranded in a city where I didn't know anybody. I swear by God's name and on the life of my dearest family I will never ride another Greyhound until the day my body becomes ashes. On top of all that they refused to refund me. My grandmother and I needed to take a bus from Montreal, Canada to Vermont, USA and everything went better then we could have hoped. The building that we departed from was quite large and had a really nice and very convenient coffee shop right next to the bus station. The young gentleman that greeted us was very welcoming and I wish I would have caught his name. We had a lot of luggage that we were bringing with us but it was never a problem and they even helped us pack them under the buses storage. The bus was clean and comfortable and our driver Carlos was excellent. He was a great driver who was also friendly and very professional and made the experience that much better. Greyhound as a business is always hit or miss in my books. Seems to depend on the station and the staff. I booked online, so didnt interact with the staff other than the driver. The station in Montreal is newer and better than in Ottawa. Convenience store has lots of little travel bottles of everything...except hand sanitizer! :S Food options include a coffee shop, bistro/cafe, and a random vending machine of healthy fresh salads. Bathrooms are about as clean as you'd expect. Done the gate 18 to Ottawa a few times, doesn't ever seem to line up until about 2 minutes before bus arrives. Not a shady station, but some shady characters sometimes. read more

Wow, Greyhound on the East Coast is so bad that I've taken all measures to avoid taking it to NYC or Boston ever again. Now I need to go to Ottawa, and find that Greyhound is the only bus that runs there. In addition to charging $23 one way for a 2.5 hour bus ride, right before one clicks "Purchase," one sees that they have tacked on an "Adjustment - Service Charge" of $6. What precisely is this "service charge" for? Greyhound claims it's for updating and repairing their bus stations. Apparently this last minute service charge has been instituted in all Canadian web transactions for a few years-- and their bus stations still look the same. Read: This is a "Bait and Switch" tactic to get more money at the last minute. Why not be upfront and list the total charge right away, like a regular honest and customer-oriented company. Greyhound staff are ubiquitously tone-deaf to customer complaints of all varieties. When any customer expresses a complaint, they respond, robot-like, repeatedly with the same vague, blanket statement which never addresses or even acknowledges the issue the customer is concerned about. If this company did not have monopolies of routes on half the East Coast, I surmise they would be out of business by now... I usually don't post very negative reviews, but this company is just audaciously bad. read more

I think the service and ridership in Canada is different form that in the U.S. The drivers have all been very nice and the boarding process is orderly and without hassle. Sometimes you have to. The bus was clean. The station at Montreal is newly renovated and nice. They have literally one of the worst websites remaining on the internet I think. I was physically unable to purchase tickets online, it just bugged out at the point of sale, and so I called and it was bizarrely hard to get a person online and when I did she was super nice and sold me my tickets over the phone and then charged me $10 for the privilege of buying them over the phone and then waiting in line 30 minutes to pick up my tickets at the counter. Not her fault, she had no other options, and all she could do was give me a number to call to get "help with using the website." Which makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Also, the driver was nice but literally drove like he was being chased by all the hounds of hell and more than once I feared for my life. So there's that. read more

Having taken the MTL-NYC over a dozen times I can say that Greyhound is a hit or miss. They brag about student discounts but rarely ever give any (and I mean RARELY aka I've been offered it ONCE ). Sales are few and far between, I've ony seen 2 in the last year and they were limited to unpopular routes. Pricing-wise I wish MegaBus did this route but sadly I'll have to live on. I've learned to rideshare when I can to avoid Greyhound and have found myself wondering why Amtrack hasn't smartened up and started the overnight train yet. (otherwise you lose the whole day, same reason I suggest the overnight bus). In terms of staff friendliness, I have been the type to bring cupcakes or cookies to the late night staff. The MTL crew is friendly for the most part, NYC is decently humorous but reflect the rush of the city. The stop over in Albany is where they need to decide on working with their partner. I have seen riders get kicked off buses and had the cops called on them just because the drivers were being assholes and didn't like being scorned for forcibly shoving a passenger, I've been mistreated by the Albany terminal staff, even sworn at for asking if the restaurant is going to be opening (since they don't post operation hours). As for the ride itself, don't expect your wifi to work. It generally functions 1 out of every 7 trips I take. Despite your ticket saying so, not all buses have outlets. I've also seen passengers turned away and told they need to wait for the next bus (4 hours later) because the driver was using all 4 front seats for their belongings. An absolute insult to their customers. I have had a lot of other bad experiences with Greyhound but will keep them to myself in hopes that they are one time incidents that would otherwise reflect poorly on the company. Greyhound gets my business because its easy for last minute trips when they run the busses on the route so often, but they are becoming more and more low-end. read more

Ok, I have to address the hellish experience that they call "booking online". Preface: I'm a young montréalaise who always has her phone in hand, so I love when I can do things directly from my phone. Trying to navigate their mobile site is impossible! I was bumped from one place to another and it kept bugging! But hey, I'm not that mean. It's not always easy to keep up with mobile technology. So, I head to my laptop. It's better. I can always book online with very few problems. But the first time I booked, I couldn't believe how impossible it was to find which stop is the one closest to me. I had to guess and check every single one of them! Anyways, after figuring out which were my stops the first time, the next times I tried to book a ticket (ON MY LAPTOP) were a breeze. Now, you must be wondering, if she's being so negative, why is she giving it 4 stars?? Here's why: when i finally got to the bus station (an hour early), the staff was so nice! The bus that was supposed to leave before mine was basically empty, so the driver invited all the people who were supposed to take my bus to take that one! (We were about 8.) The buses are also very comfortable. I love the feet rest and the reclinable chairs! (See my megabus review for a comparison.) I've taken the greyhound 4-5 times in the past 3 months and the drivers have always been very friendly and the ride has always been smooth. Terribly outdated website design - could not find a map or addresses of the stops anywhere, broken links, very hard to navigate and you need to print out tickets (no scanning on phone!?). Missed my scheduled departure, which I take responsibility for, except... to change to the next bus nearly cost as much as my full fare! $22 to catch the next bus and then my bag was 5 pounds over which they robbed me of another $22! Albeit that I had started off with my first departure being cancelled due to a snow storm- I found that my bus drivers were good. Mr. Monroe gets a 5 (drove back from white river junction to mtl)- the bus lacking wifi gets my "meh" 3... Going to Boston is a long ride- most definitely suggest the overnight bus. As far as new drivers? Could potentially make your bus an hour late on arrival- "but, you didn't hear that from me" xD... Also- when purchasing your ticket, remember! Deciding to postpone can mean all of an extra 40-50$ (around 3 weeks to departure date) just don't be tardy. read more

I am very disappointed in the customer service I just received. I am a frequent traveler on Greyhound. I take the bus 3-4 times a month and today was my first mistake, I booked a 7am bus instead of my usual 7pm and called within minutes to get it changed. The person on the phone told me that I will have to pay a $20 fee and the difference in ticket price. I have no problem with paying the price difference but the ticket itself is $20, why would I have to pay an extra $20 fee, when i booked it seconds ago. I told her i completely understand that it is in the system and out of her control, but if there was someone I can speak to to void the $20 (a manager or customer service). She said "they will just tell you the same thing!" I am very disappointed in how she was speaking to me and I did not understand why I was unable to change a 7am ticked to 7pm on the same day when the booking was made less than 5mins ago. read more

Friendly, informative drivers . Our bus was at 430 with a connection of only 30mins, a driver leaving at 3 suggested his bus because being Friday we would be cutting it close. This gesture was wonderful and helpful so that we would not miss our connection. read more

I took round trip from Montreal to NY. The 1st trip was good. The bus left exactly on time, had minimum stops and most importantly reached before the expected time, though the quality of the bus was terrible. But the return trip was a horrible experience. The bus never arrived, nobody showed up to answer our queries, we were made to wait for 5 hours and then were put in the leftover seats of Adirondack Trailways' bus. So, instead of reaching Montreal at 10pm, we reached at 4am. During the 5 hours wait, some of us wanted a refund to make other arrangements and leave but Greyhound office people kept turning us off saying there is no manager to ask for refund or any other information. Thus, I will think twice while booking with Greyhound next time. read more

I had no problems with greyhound bus my entire trip from ny to montreal and back. The buses were nice, relaxing and comfortable. Although the leg space is not too a lot, one has to understand it is a bus. The driver Ronaldo, was very nice and professional, great guy! The outlets are functional, but may be loose and your outlet plug my fall out. I expected bad service because greyhound has been notoriously known to give bad service, and it didnt help that reaching a human representitive is next to impossible over the phone unless you google "grey hound customer service human" and use that number. However, the service of the bus was five stars for me. read more

I really had a bad experience with Greyhound, when I was in NYC, waiting for my bus to go back to Montreal. There had been a snow storm the day I had to leave, so they just decided not to send any bus, without saying it to anyone. So we all waited hours at the station, until midnight or so, until someone of the station (even not from Greyhound!) came and told us that no bus would come before the next morning! How nice! Worst experience with traveling I've ever had. I had booked a ticket from MTL to NYC days in advance with train tickets, show tickets and hotel rooms all booked after my bus ticket was bought. I get to the bus station with all my luggage to learn that the bus was not delayed but CANCELLED with no prior warning. I did not receive a text or call or email to inform me of the cancellation. Then when I proceeded to request for a refund, the gate agent kept directing me to the website which is just absolute shit. I'm on a student budget and have lost a lot of money on my just the ticket but everything else that was lined up based on me getting to NYC. I have emailed them multiple times regarding a refund and haven't heard anything back. When I called, I was put on hold for almost 40 minutes just to be hung up on. Never ever am I going to use their service. I recommend Amtrak as the best alternative for transportation to NY. read more

Outrageous and unprofessional. Broken down bus a half hour from its destination takes 4 hours to resolve. Bus driver is inexperienced, response to problem solve from dispatch slow and when they finally come with a new bus the bus drivers seem to find the time to chit chat for a bit instead of hustling all the passengers after an 8 hour overnight ride from NYC to Montreal that is over 4 hours late in arrival. Within the 4 hours bus driver leaves bus unattended, passengers accessing luggage from outside compartment on their own to be rescued by vas or family, other passengers scattered about at local restaurants waiting not knowing what is what. Fortunately everyone was calm and reasonable. But greyhound has something left to be desired in how they train their employees and respond to solving problems. Very poor! read more

Greyhound Canada basically cancelled our trip two days before Christmas (though we'd reserved and paid for our trip a month before), misinformed us and then basically left us stranded. We'd booked a trip from Kitchener to Toronto. Two days before, someone from Greyhound phoned us and said to call back. When we returned the call, the guy online said nothing was out of the ordinary (i.e. our bus was to leave on December 27 at 10:30). However when we arrived at the station, the Greyhound employee said it was cancelled. We'd have to wait 8 hours for the next one. We had an expensive train ticket booked from Toronto to Montreal that afternoon, so had to beg our friends in Kitchener to drive us to Toronto. I don't know what was the worst: (a) Greyhound cancelled our Christmas time trip at the last minute. (b) The guy at the Greyhound switchboard told us everything was running normally when our trip had been cancelled (c) The guy at the Greyhound station was completely unhelpful. We learned later that there are other ways to get to Toronto (GO buses, an airport shuttle) but he wanted us to miss our train and get to Toronto on the crappy unreliable Greyhound service. Greyhound bus schd number 4008 of today April 22, 2019 pick up station plattsburgh going Montreal suppose to be @ around 3:30 pm. Unfortunately didn't showed up to pick up 2 passengers waiting. Imagined waiting there earlier so we wont miss the bus but instead didn't showed up... i was outside the gasoline station to make sure the greyhound bus will see us... the casher re booked us at around 5:55 bus. But the greyhound officer showed me the screen that there bus came at 3:53 and left 3:54!!! In one minute if let say the bus came, how can you be able to pick up 2 passengers?
