I've watched my niece play soccer on the soccer fields here, played on one of the playgrounds with my nephew, went hiking with my sister and nephew, and walked one of the trails along the lake with my boyfriend the morning of my birthday. Each time I visited it felt so nice to be amongst nature and nature loving individuals. The soccer fields are well kept and there is ample parking for parents and guests. The playgrounds have a plethora of equipment and fun cement animal structures that make it fun for children to use their imagination for play! It was so neat to see him be creative and use his imagination. The most recent time I've had the pleasure of visiting this area was just last month on the morning of my birthday. I wanted to see deer out and about and this is the place to go and see them! It was a short two mile trail walk but absolutely beautiful! We got there around 730am and there were a handful of people there walking, biking, fishing, and running at that time. It was comforting to see like minded people enjoying the weather, the nature around us, and the recreation area. The side we enjoyed our morning walk was new to me. I had never seen the side of the park with the lake. There were benches sporadically placed along the edge of the water and also a little covered area that you could walk out on to and enjoy the view. I noticed other playgrounds and buildings that I'm sure you could request to rent or reserve. If you haven't ventured out to Chalco before I highly suggest that you do!! There is something for everyone here, especially if you love the outdoors, seeing wildlife doing their thing, or if you just need some time to yourself to relax and recover from work or life. I spent about 10 minutes walking in one direction and then had to turn around to make my appointment but in that 20 minutes, I fell in love with this place. The trail itself is really lovely. You can tell that it is very well maintained and not overgrown next to the path. The small bridges for pedestrians to walk over along the path are a nice touch as well. So much of the trail is shaded and this was a particularly cool day which made me excited to come back in the fall and see the leaves change. I saw two deer while I was there both somewhat close to the path and completely visible, and I passed a handful of other people, enjoying the trail that day, including a handful of leashed dogs which are allowed on the trail. The trail is six or 7 miles long so definitely plan for a long day if you plan to do the whole Lake, but there are two loops that you can do in a shorter amount of time or you can do what I did and park at one of the parking lots do a small walk and then turn around and go back.

The park was fully booked as it was Father's Day weekend, but it never felt crowded. I really enjoyed painting ceramics by the lake when it started raining and hiking the various trails. The cabin was clean and simple. I am rating four stars instead of five because there were a few things that could be easily improved. It was very hard to figure out what amenities were available in the cabin theough the web site, which made it kind of difficult to know what to bring with regards to cooking supplies and linens. I appreciated the cooking utensils, but I would have liked some form of skillet or griddle. We made do, but it was kind of oddfeying eggs in a pot. I was able to navigate the park without much trouble, but some of my family had a hard time finding the cabin, so maybe the signage could be more clear.
