My friends and I always make sure to hit this up every year no matter what else is going on. This year they had four pigs roasting at once so you had all kinds of pork options to munch on. I was told they had a total of over 5000 lbs of pork that they were serving at the fair! Other food options I saw were pizza, crawfish pies, funnel cakes, gumbo, and jambalaya. They also had nachos for $4.00, burgers for $2.50, and hot dogs for $1.50. How can you not like those cheap prices? As usual The Topcats closed out the final day with another great performance! The Topcats have been closing out the fair for the past few years and they never disappoint. I love Rob!! He gets the crowd so involved. Lots of school fairs, to me, are either boring or lame. This one is neither. It is everything a fair should be. Family-oriented, kid-friendly, great music, and great food.

Noticed this little place a few days ago and said Me and my little person would go. Picked her up…read morefrom daycare and told her we were going to "the magic claw" (bluey lover here ). She was so excited. We got there and her eyes lit up looking at the super bright room filled with lights and bright colors...they know exactly how to get kids attention. You go up to the counter and buy a basket of tokens. We got 25 I think. Most machines either take 1 or 2 tokens, I think that's fair. My little person is 2 y/o and a tiny tot so I thought it was really cool of them to have some of the machines small/short enough for them to reach. She was having more fun putting the tokens into the machine. Out of 25 tokens she won 3 little small toys. 2 were just keychains. My only gripes are that it doesn't seem like the stock the machines often meaning a lot of the good stuffed animals were in corners that the claws couldn't reach because everything else had already been picked up from the middle. Slim picking...slim winnings. And for kids who may not win anything, they don't allow you to buy any of the displayed toys, I mean that's at least make a child feel better. You can only trade stuffed animals that you've won for the toys on display. All in all it's a cool little spot. I'd go every now and then.

There were such random but functional throws like honey straws, colorful soap, gumbo seasoning mix bags, sunglasses, batons, dog leashes, of course plushies, and so much more. You never know what you'd catch and that was the fun part. They even threw in some extra Valentine's Day throws. We thought they were just throwing out basic pink straws but looking at them closely, they were heart shaped! The kids marching from various schools were adorable. All the floats were huge and nicely made. I was so impressed by the length of the parade and how many floats they had for each Krewe. The crowd was super friendly and it felt very communal. Other than that, the parade itself was lovely. They marched during the day, so not much glowing decor. Still, I probably kept the most Iris throws out of all the Krewes we've seen.

I mean, I probably would have written a brief review that said "this blows" or "F This" but I am a new man. You see, I no longer have to work Mardi Gras. This means the hate has left the body. Not really but when you have kids you do some stuff you wouldn't normally do for them. So what had happened was..... My oldest called me a few weeks ago and said that her friend was riding in Iris and she wanted to go. Imagine her surprise when I told her I would take her. So take her I did and we actually had a good time. We didn't get murdered, my car didn't get broken into, I witnessed a hit and run, and got to see Jen L randomly as I witnessed the aforementioned hit and run. Overall, I think that rates four stars. The parade itself was fun and the floats were top-notch. We caught our fair share of trinkets and some lady gave me a funny hat. A funny hat I used to block the sun the rest of the day. Yes, I looked like some sort of Mardi Gras Hipster, but I will take that over a sunburn any day.

I booked myself and six young people for an event that was advertised as family friendly. The class started 30 minutes late (tough for an impatient 7 year old) and then the ONLY instruction was, "I would start with the background." I wish this was an exaggeration. Then the instructor sat behind the desk for the duration of the class. When I've gone in the past, the instructor walked us through the painting while they painted on stage and gave tips, often circulating through the class to see if anyone needed help. Not this time. There were no printed instructions either. There was a monitor that displayed the painting but it went off halfway through the class, leaving us to use our phone screen or our imagination to finish. Despite starting thirty minutes late, it ended on time which cheated us out of our full booking. And then the "instructor" had the nerve to put a tip bucket atop a stool standing between us the door. Everyone has a bad day, but this experience was particularly egregious. Coupled with the company's refusal to acknowledge, apologize, or remedy the problem leaves me no other option than to recommend Google users NOT patronize Painting With a Twist Metairie.
