It may be small but it is mighty! However, it is important to note that we had "THE" BEST tour guide - Sandra. Not only was she full of interesting facts & information, she clearly loves what she's doing. I would love to visit again just to hear her share her knowledge and experiences with the wild life here on Long Island. After our tour of the museum, we ventured out to the turtle house and endless trails in the preserve. We saw a baby osprey in the nearby nest as well as quite a few deer as it was dusk. Be careful of ticks and chiggers.

Visit Date: June 25, 2021…read more I came here with my son and dad for part of his birthday celebration. We were the only ones in the museum at the time so the clerk who checked us in gave me son extra attention and showed him different things he could do upstairs. When we went down the touch tank, the person watching over and helping with the touch tank Milo was really awesome. The clerk upstairs was really awesome to but I don't remember her name. He took out a turtle that they have to keep at the nature center for my son to look at as a birthday surprise he was very attentive and nice to my son. We didn't get to hike the trails nearby although when I'm with my son the hiking is kind of limited. I want to come back one day to hike the trails here. We went outside on the deck for awhile which was nice. This is a beautiful and interesting museum worth going to.

It's the type of building that makes you want to give it a big hug, if only your arms were long enough Built over a hundred years ago as the village firehouse, it also did duty as a church before finally settling in as home to the Flavin Art Institute. How cute is it? Look at the address: Corwith Avenue off of Main Street. The official address is nothing but an intersection. That is seriously small town. The museum houses nine of Flavin's flourescent lighting sculptures. That's right, I did say "flourescent lighting sculptures." It's an amazing medium that Flavin playfully embraced for much of his career. By manipulating the colors and intensity of the lights, Flavin is able to extend each sculpture beyond it's direct physical presence, such that every nook and corner of the museum acquires its own mood. Because the museum is dedicated to Flavin, the works can be installed in a way that they are seen to best effect. If you know Flavin from other museums, come here to see his art taken to the next level of intensity. The museum also has a gallery that houses temporary exhibitions. When I was there, the exhibition was "Dan Flavin and the Hudson River School" and it included his drawings and paintings of the Hudson River, as well as works by artists who had influenced him during this phase of his career. It was fascinating to see, so different from the light sculptures that made him famous. If you come, plan some other activities. The museum is small and even if you linger, you'll likely be done within an hour. If nothing else, take the time to explore the small shops of downtown Bridgehampton. Bottom line: for art lovers who are in the area, the Flavin Institute should not be missed. For people already admire Flavin, it is a must-see, even if you do have to travel for a day.

So many pieces made you stop and think, "How did they do that?!" I visited the whole museum, but my favorites were the Costume & Textile galleries, the exhibit on kingfishers in art and poetry, the European Grand Gallery with its oil paintings and the 18th/19th‑century American rooms in Pendleton House. I also loved how the museum's architecture fits together like a puzzle across several older buildings and street entrances. That was a surprising add-on to the visit. Extra tip: street parking is nearly impossible. Check their website for the free weekend parking lots (within walking distance) they make the visit much easier.

There was a room dedicated to costumes and textiles from different cultures around the world! As a sewist and costumer, this was very fun for me to have the room to myself and go through the drawers (everything was behind glass). I want to say I was here for roughly 2 hours and saw everything and took lots of photos.
