Aka "The Bouncy Bridge", this is a beautiful, useful, and very fun pedestrian bridge in the heart of Inverness! It's a suspension bridge built in 1881 and it is indeed VERY bouncy haha!
It's so bouncy in fact that a tradition amongst the local children is to get a group of friends together, head out to about 1/3 of the way onto the bridge, and jump up and down in unison to create the famous Greig Street sine wave - scaring all the tourists LOL!! We tried it but couldn't get a big enough wave going as there were only two of us and my husband gave up bc he didn't want to upset the locals hahaha!! I think you need a bigger group lol. Was still very fun to try!
If you're exploring Inverness it's very likely you'll cross this bridge at least once, if not many times. It links the city center and tourist hotspots on the east bank with the popular hotels on the west bank.
The bridge itself is very beautiful and has lovely views from all angles. Crossing from west to east you'll see the towering spires of the Old High Church and Free Church of Scotland. To the north you'll see the dramatic snow capped mountains of the Highlands. And to the south you see the castle looming over the city. And below you'll find the fast flowing, clear but dark waters of the River Ness!
A great landmark in the lovely Capital of the Scottish Highlands! read more
