I'm going to go with A-OK.
I made a reservation over the phone and get a spot a few days after I called. When I arrived I wasn't in their schedule, but they apologized for their mix up and took me right on time any way.
The optometrist was great, she did a barrage of tests quickly and efficiently and then when it came time to explain results and chat about options she switched to English and slowed down and made me feel comfortable and understood.
The cost of the exams and glasses was pretty much on par with other places, a bit cheaper in fact than bigger optometrists downtown. They had a small but stylish collection of glasses, and a helpful gentleman working the floor who made some suggestions but wasn't too pushy.
When I left he didn't give me my glasses prescription, maybe this is normal so you go back and buy from them? But when I called about it they emailed it over right away, no problem.
You can't escape the fact that the markup for glasses is bonkers, 300$ in store for what you pay 100$ for online. And I can't help but have a little socialized medicine righteous fury in my heart when I pay for an important health exam that I think should be covered by our Canadian health care plan.
I'm thankful for the convenience of this tiny, tidy shop on Beaubien though, for sure. read more
