We had an intimate birthday dinner celebration for a friend, chef Greg made this dinner a pleasure from start to finish!! First the food!! it was delicious, each dish featured multiple flavors playing off one another, in a complex but not overwhelming way. The food is restaurant quality, and the authentic Jamaican flavors are just half the story, chef Greg takes a simple dish like red pea soup and he turns it into an edible piece of art. Of all the dishes that he cooked for us, I would say that his homemade stew pork with mashed potatoes was my favorite. But each dish was delicious! The Jerk chicken, rice and peas, with cabbage, the shrimp linguine, beef stew and red wine, festivals, and the bbq wings. I highly recommend chef Greg's authentic Jamaican cuisine. read more

Wow wow wow!! Generous portion sizes. Friendly and timely service. Spicesss galore. Considerate packaging. All in all a hidden gem and in my opinion one of the best Jamaican spots in Cali! I ordered the oxtails, island shrimp, beef patties, brown stew chicken and curry chicken. Every meal comes with plastic silverware and 4 sides: plantains, a hefty serving of rice-reallyyyy flavorful- festivals, and salad. Every.single.thing.was amazing even the sides were cooked well, my personal favorite was the oxtail and shrimp! If you want authentic Jamaican food give Greg's kitchen a visit you won't regret it, he cooks with love and you can taste it in each bite. My Jamaican sister-in-law and the rest of the family have eaten in Jamaican restaurants all over Southern California. This is the best of all the restaurants open today. The oxtail is our favorite. The portions are generous, the rice is delicious, the vegetables flavorful, the beef patties are perfect, and the festival so good! My father was Jamaican, but I was born and raised in New York. I spent many summers in Kingston with my cousins, aunts, and grandfather. My mother's side is from Havana, Cuba so I grew up with very flavorful foods. Greg's food tastes exactly the way my family use to prepare it. WOW! How did I get so lucky to find him and so close by? His presentation is beautiful, each meal I've tried has been excellent, and you can tell that he is meticulous and clean. He greets you at the door with a smile and he has a pleasant demeanor. I stumbled across Greg's Kitchen while looking through yelp. I noticed it was near me and it is an MHKO (Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation). I've tried a few MHKO's around me that have popped up and the food was generally ok. But, nothing to brag about. The first great thing I like is that it's not going through a service like Foodnome. While foodnome is great, it seems like the prices are higher due to the added cost of using the service. With Greg's Place, you pay him directly (through squarespace). With that all out of the way, let me talk about the food. O M G - the food! Jamaican food is supposed to be a party in your mouth. Typical Jamaican ingredients include things like ginger, tamarind, curry, pimento, etc. When done correctly, your mouth will feel wonderful with the flavors. Greg does that beautifully from his MHKO. My family and I ordered the curry chicken, jerk pork, and brown chicken stew. Along with this, we ordered some more plantains and festival. The curry chicken sauce was silky smooth and tasty. I believe it had cocount milk in it which gave it a nice richness. Along with chicken, there was some really tiny dumplings that had a nice texture to them as you ate it. My son, a picky 12-year old eater, loved it. The jerk pork was me and my wife's favorite dish. Greg used a lean cut of meat (possibly a pork chop) so it wasn't too fatty. The spices were plentiful and it reminded us of the great food we had in Jamaica when we were younger. I don't know if the pork was smoked, but the flavor was so amazing it probably didn't matter. The brown chicken stew is a dish I had never had. It had a nice slow roasted type of flavor. It was a simple dish with chicken and veg, but again, it was wonderful in the mouth. All the meals came with a side of rice and peas, 3 plantains, and a carrot salad. For the amount of food we got, the price is very good and reasonable. Did I mention how awesome the food tastes? :) Finally, the festival is also amazing. I love the fried bread taste and it really did bring me back to Jamaica. I'm not sure of the exact ingredients, but I think I tasted a bit of cinammon in the dough that just made it oh so much better. I mean, really, you can't go wrong with this place. I ate it so fast, I forgot to take pictures. I'll certainly post pictures when I order again. If you love Jamaican food. Heck, if you have a pulse - you will love this place. Ive been eating chef Gregs cooking for some time and am so glad to see that is now available for "take-out". Everything is fresh, well prepared and has more flavor than your typical "meal prep" options. My favorite is fried plantains to any of his dishes. Its a light, sweet and savory addition to any meal. The gravy chicken is so good. So is the curry chicken, its not overly pungent but packs tons of flavor and spice. Wow, this is good food! Today is the 2nd time I have gotten food from Greg's Kitchen, and I will be ordering again. Today I got the jerk pork and curry chicken. Chef Greg uses fresh, good quality ingredients, and he knows how to cook, season, and flavor the food he makes. The jerk pork is fully cooked, tender, lean, and delicious. The curry chicken is boneless/skinless, and spiced into a tasty, warm, comfort food. The rice on the side is delicious, as are the fried plantains. Each meal comes with a shredded cabbage/carrot/corn salad that complements the spiciness of the meat. Servings are generous, and one dish is enough as one large meal, or two decent sized meals. Greg included a hot and a mild sauce, each with a flavor that stimulates my appetite. Next time I will request more sauce. The offering is perfect for me and my family, especially for myself that would rather picking up the food on the weekend and eating at home or at a picnic. The food is extremely flavorful.
