Before my lessons with Mr. Ish, the only driving experience I had as a 36 year old was some parking lot practice, and a one hour lesson with a different school (which I didn't think was very helpful so I didn't continue). I took 5 lessons of 2 hours each (10 hours total) with him and found him to be an incredibly patient and supportive instructor. I had a lot of anxiety going into the whole process, and his calm presence always put me at ease and made me more confident. When I would make a mistake like making too wide of a turn into a streeet, he would point it out but also ask me why I did it that way. It felt like he really wanted to get to the root of the issue to help fix it. In the case of turning too wide, we realized that I was misjudging the distance of my car from the parked cars on the street. This thoughtful approach really helped diagnose and correct issues as they came up and it was so satisfying to visibly see myself improve. His approach to teaching parallel parking was super clear, and I was able to confidently parallel park during the test, and have now also done it in relatively tight spots on DC streets! He also recommended doing a last lesson right before the test in the Deanwood neighborhood (where the DMV test takes place). This was great advice, and Mr. Teddy accommodated me for a pre-test lesson on short notice. I used the school's car for the test, which was helpful since I was familiar with it. The day of the test there was a really long wait at the DMV and Mr. Teddy waited with me patiently and was also really supportive. All the communication and reminders from the school about lesson times, locations were timely and clear, Mr. Ish was always on time for picking me up, and it was just a seamless experience end to end.

I called on 2/17 and they charged my card 83$ which is the 80$ lesson plus a transaction fee. I told them I only had a few days before my test so I wanted a lesson before hand. The front desk lady and the driver said they called six times each. However, they did not leave one voice message after 12 calls. I live near a forest on a corner street. Sometimes my signal is bad. I think as a professional driving school that I already paid for, the least they could've done is left a message so I could be able to return it. I don't have 12 missed calls in my phone log. I asked for a refund and they are asking for my card information again. I don't know where it is. Now I have to call my bank to dispute the transaction because I was charged for services I did not receive. The driver called me after I talked to the front desk lady and he was pretty nice but it still does not excuse the level of unprofessionalism I experienced here.

I went to sign him up for class and saw the same instructor who taught me and Mr. S remembered me! The price did go up a bit from when I attended, but they gave a family discount which was awesome! They mentioned a waiting period when my brother registered, due to some law (idk), but my brother has to wait 9 months anyway so didn't affect him much. Either way, their service and attention to us was great and I hope my brother has a good experience like I did! P.S Metro station is just a ten minute walk (my brother has to take it). P.S.S Mall is close by to grab food during breaks (like I used to all the time)

As a 33 year old Mom of 2 I was terrified and very nervous about being on the road. Gilbert instantly put me at ease and I passed my test 1st try yesterday after 3 weeks of lessons. Gilbert is incredibly patient, calm and excellent at teaching and giving you the necessary tools and tips to gain confidence and become a safe driver. Do not trust this business; they tried to scam me, and I had to go through UHaul to get my money…read moreback. I went to Tag and Title Boutique to drop off my U-Haul reservation. I left the car clean and thought everything was fine. The next day I was charged an $100 cleaning fee. I called because I thought it was a mistake, but I was told I dumped trash behind the business, and people had seen me and recorded me. That was impossible since I did not dump any trash. My U-Haul was to bring large furniture to my new apartment there were never even any trash bags in the truck. I asked to review the footage and was told it would be sent to me. It's been four days, and I have not received any footage, just photos of trash bags nowhere near where I left my truck. I asked the woman on the phone to review the footage, as I was certain I hadn't dumped any trash, but she refused. I had to go through UHaul to get my money back, and I never received any apology or acknowledgment that I was accused of something I did not do and then charged.

I went on Yelp and found Safe Driving School. The lady was pleasant, so I went ahead and signed her up. That same evening my daughter was driving. The driving instructor was beyond knowledgeable and kind. Unlike the other driving school instructor, he knew where he was going and wasn't constantly looking at his phone. He also spent the entire time with my daughter and gave her some tips that I am even going to use. It was definitely a different experience, and I can't say enough good things about Safe Driving School.
