I got my hair cut by Madison on Wednesday, and it was overdue in the way my haircuts are always…read moreoverdue, somewhere past "needs a trim" and rapidly approaching "unhoused man with genuinely bad hair," a very specific look I have accidentally cultivated for years now. Madison fixed it. Clean lines, actual shape, the kind of cut where you leave the chair looking like a person who has his affairs in order, even if that's a lie you're telling everyone including yourself. While I waited, they offered a free beer or a soft drink, and I stood there weighing the beer option with more seriousness than the decision probably deserved, before remembering it was noon on a Wednesday and I still had places to be that required functioning as an adult. I took the soft drink on my way out, quietly, like a man protecting a reputation nobody was actually monitoring. The shop leans into the whole "Keep it handsome" motto without it feeling like a bit, old-school chairs, a barber who clearly knows what she's doing, a George Bernard Shaw quote on the wall about gentlemen putting more into the world than they take out, which is a high bar for a place that also sells beard oil and, apparently, day-drinking opportunities. I will, predictably, wait too long before my next visit and show up looking like I lost a fight with a hedge trimmer. Madison will fix that too. This is the system now, and I've made peace with it.

She delivered on style. While working out of town frequently I met a guy who knew the area and he took me to a barber shop. Super chill place in downtown Ohio and I let the guy give me a fade. I call it a philly cut because it just reminds me of motown. But now settled here I needed to find a good place the first visit. I searched on yelp and read countless reviews of nearly ten salons and barbershops. I kept going back to one place online that stood out to me. That was this place. Now being a female I can understand if you would hesitate on coming where mostly men frequent. But if you are that female who rocks short styles, faux hawks and fades, you'll want to try this place. It's Spanish owned and Spanish speaking however English is understood but Spanish is dominant across the board. The vibe is super chill. They talk sports and the regulars talk junk to one another but many of the other patrons are quiet tho. They are quick to get you in and out but with style. They take their time to give you what you ask. They ask you along the way as they cut and style - how you want it exactly. They offer a shave and clean up for the men. They use razors, scissors and straight edge. The latino music is on with latino videos. The lines are long both Sat's I've been. If you don't have an appt, You come in and write your name on the board under whoever you want or whoever has less people. Its prob 25-40 mins per patron is what it seemed. Every cut I saw was fresh. They service all ages and ethnicities. Good vibe here.
