Dr Melamed, to put it mildly, changed my life. I had never really heard of behavioral/cognitive…read moretherapy. I'm used to a good old psychotherapist. You sit there and rant about your mother and they nod sagely and give you drugs. I had an awesome psychotherapist growing up, but after a string of terrible shrinks in adulthood, I just gave up on therapy altogether. But the truth is, I'm kind of neurotic and high-strung and anxious (hawt, I know). And after a series of itty bitty breakdowns culminated in a kind of major breakdown, I decided that I had to do something before I broke in two. My GP was the one who suggested Dr. Melamed. She knew I wasn't a fan of meds, and said that B/C therapy might be better. Wow. She was majorly right. This is therapy where you actually work on yourself. You don't just vent to a sympathetic ear, you get tools to help you cope with things and identify and adjust your behavior/the way you think. Dr Melamed is immensely approachable. She is young and friendly but has buckets of experience, including teaching. She develops a repoire well and is a perfect balance of helping you take responsibility while also not making you feel like you're to blame for everything wrong in your life. After one session, I started having better control over how I handled situations, because I was actually using tools... not just trying to remember mantras or relying on drugs. I had to take off a star because she does not accept insurance. This therapy set me back a very pretty penny. If you see yourself as a self-starter who wants to actually facilitate change in your life, working to improve yourself rather than hoping for someone to "fix" you, I recommend behavioral/cognitive therapy. And if possible, I would say give Deborah Melamed a call!

Among my favorite of his qualities is his ability to be direct and frank with his patients. He demands honesty and trust, which are two of the cardinal tenets of psychotherapy. It won't work otherwise. I always have and will feel completely comfortable speaking with Dr. Fayer and I highly value his approach, his methods, and his advice. He is very attentive and frequently checks in with patients. I also feel strongly that Dr. Fayer is the ideal choice for struggling patients who need to determine what medication(s) are best for treatment and laying the foundations for establishing a healthy lifestyle, balanced mood, and high self esteem. Dr. Fayer will help you tremendously, but you have to do the work yourself, which he'll masterfully guide you through. He genuinely cares very much about his patients' welfare, feelings, success, and the integrity of his craft. He's very warm and approachable, unlike many shrinks out there, and i always feel encouraged rather than intimidated to share something with him thats difficult. The office is in an elite and beautiful neighborhood on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and provides a calm, modern, fastidiously clean, welcoming waiting area. Sessions take place in his large, well appointed office with an abundance of comfortable seating, lots of natural light, and a beautiful private garden (which is accessible by patients). My experience with Dr. Brian Pell deserves to be publicly documented so others know exactly what…read morethey are walking into. I booked an appointment specifically for an ADHD assessment, clearly stated as such. That was the entire purpose of the visit. Yet, during the call, Dr. Pell casually informed me that they are not conducting ADHD assessments at this time and may resume, possibly in January or February of next year. This immediately raised a red flag: if you are not offering the service, why accept an appointment for it? Why bill insurance for something you never intended to provide? The entire interaction lasted 18 minutes, and not a single part of it resembled an evaluation. Instead, we spent the bulk of the time discussing my career. He asked about my former psychiatrist's nationality; he seemed very interested in why he didn't take insurance "as a Black doctor" (which I perceive as a common conflation between race and poverty). He then asked only two quick, surface-level questions about why I was seeking an ADHD assessment. Then in the same breath that he told me they are not doing assessments, he also told me that I probably do not have ADHD. He said this despite the fact that I was coming to him for a second opinion after already completing a comprehensive, legitimate ADHD evaluation with a diagnosis from an actual specialist. (I did not share I was coming in for a second opinion, as I didn't want it to be biased). He provided no testing, no structured questions, no clinical methodology, nothing that even remotely resembled evidence-based practice. The whole thing felt dismissive, and frankly, like a complete waste of my time. I left the appointment feeling misled and deeply uncomfortable, as insurance had been billed for a service that was never delivered. If you are seeking serious mental health care, diagnostic clarity, or responsible clinical practice, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This experience felt unhelpful and entirely out of alignment with what any patient should expect from a licensed provider.
