The Gregory Barnes Building is located in Historic Old Sacramento. The 2 story building was built shortly after the devastating fire of November 2, 1852.
In 1850 Julius Gregory left his home in France to come to California in hopes of making a better life for himself and family.
He first started a wagon express service in Historic Old Sacramento which ran from J Street to the mining towns near-by. Then in 1855 Mr. Gregory established a wholesale produce market at this location selling fresh fruits and vegetables, alfalfa, poultry, butter, milk & eggs.
In 1870 the produce market of Julius Gregory at 126 J Street expanded to the buildng next door. Charles Barnes became a partner of the firm in 1880, thus creating the new name of (Gregory, Barnes & Company).
The 2 story building was reconstructed during the revitalization of Historic Old Sacramento in the 1970's. Today the building is home to Old Sacramento fan favorite gift shop (Vision Of Eden). As always thanks for reading !
