I've happy memories of walking the short distance with her from my grandparent's house, I always loved visiting them. She passed away when I turned 5 and has developed attachments with the places I associate her with. I don't know what it was called then but it's over 21 years later and I feel compelled to review it. My dad would always by something called Lardy cake, and it was a tradition that he and mum would stock up on big slabs of it before the long drive back to Manchester. I've been back occasionally since and the last, it still had it's dated retro shelving and 50's feel interior and was still a traditional family bakers. I hope it hasn't changed when I next visit

This is the best bakery for miles around…read more I found Bread Port by accident last week. I wasn't even looking to buy any bread but once in the door got totally carried away! Their Campagne bread is amazing, as is their walnut bread, and even their ordinary white sandwich and wholemeal. Then there are the cakes........ I managed to buy, and eat on the same day, 4 apricot and almond tarts. They were absolutely delicious. I called in today to buy some Sour Dough bread but they had sold out. Bought some other bread and more cakes. My husband said that the Cherry Danish was the best he had ever tasted. I live in Lymington (about 5 miles away) but I will be heading to New Milton on a regular basis to pick up more delicious, and wonderful bread. Please support this business as it deserves to do well.

The National Trust seem to be specialising in tearooms more and more these days and they have it spot on. Often when we are visiting a non NT place we will go to a nearby nt property just for lunch. The old bakery tearoom is situated in an old bakery oddly enough. The lovely thatched building could no longer be used as a bakery due to H&S laws so the NT has turned in into a tearoom, it was the last traditional working bakery in Devon. There is a large seating area outside with vintage folding garden chairs that add to the atmosphere and dogs are allowed into the garden seating area. There is more seating inside in case of bad weather, also inside is the preserved baking room with ovens and bread tins that you can look at. We had soup for lunch and it was lovely there was plently of choice for lunch and tradition drinks like homemade lemonade. The carpark is a short walk away and very small but you can also park in the village hall carpark. On your way to the tearoom you pass the toilets. We did not have time to visit the forge and mill so I can not comment on these.
