I was here for a good hour and a half but there was no pressure on buying an extra coffee/cake or any uncomfortable stares that 'that guy over there has been here 3 hours and spent £2.45,' which you do get from time to time if you live in coffee shops like I do. Anyhow, on to The Good Food Place - it's great! Modern inside with nice options for seating; either 'regular' chairs at 'normal' tables, good for sitting and eating or doing work from or comfier lounge style seats, good for slouching and relaxing over a nice coffee or flicking through a good book/magazine. They serve a range of food - lunch style like sandwiches - though I didn't try any on this occasion, so all I can tell is they make nice cakes, do good coffee, have very friendly staff and provide a relaxing and quiet environment for you!

Comfy seating can be found in the corner amongst the tables and chairs; and stools are lined up in front of the large windows so you can also sit and watch the world go by. It's flooded with light in here, so could be a good working / reading spot. That being said, the humming from their refrigerated units was annoyingly audible if you're 'tuned in' to it, even over the sound of the low-volume background music. As well as locally roasted coffees and loose teas, there are soft drinks such as lychee lemonade. Savoury snacks include panini and toasties - their homemade giant sausage rolls really need to be tried. There are also sweet treats baked on site every day, so it's well worth popping by and grabbing something fresh on the go.

The quality of my latte was fine, I did find the coffee to be not as strong, and a little too milky/creamy... but this can be common with Greggs. The food was reasonably well stocked considering I visited around an hour before they were due to close. 3* - Pretty average Greggs, a useful stop for to-go food in Ashton, not the best quality, but far worse around.

The staff are pretty friendly too, and generally quite helpful. I like visiting this location for the soup, there is generally a nice selection of soup ready-made on the shelves, my favourite being the Souper Tomato, which may sound a little plain as a tomato soup, but certainly isn't. I would have liked some more gluten-free options such as bread to go with the soup, or perhaps more of a "Soup Menu", it seems Pret no longer use their daily soup location in this (or any) of their branches, so you never know which soups are going to be in stock every day, which can be a little annoying if you like planning ahead, and it can be different from store to store as well. Pricing is competitive for drinks and food, probably in line with other chain coffee shops. There is a tap where you can refill your own water for free or ask for a cup, which is pretty handy. 4* - A nice Pret location, and a good stop for a quick lunch/coffee in the city centre.

However, I have spent many occasions sitting by the window people watching with a coffee and lunch. The food is superb! My favourites are the Chicken Caesar & Bacon Baguette, or the Avocado & Crayfish Salad. Absolutely amazing! The baguette has tasty moist chicken and crispy smoked bacon mixed between Italian cheese and Caesar mayo, all on a thin crispy baguette. The salad comes in a box with a perfectly ripe sliced avocado, and smothered in delicious crayfish and rocket salad with a small pot of french dressing, which adds that perfect moisture and a little more flavour to the dish.

It may seem a bit harsh but from a business point of view today they lost our custom because of a lack of organisation. As you walk in the door you are supposed to order what you want to have in the cafe. When you walk towards the cafe there is the till where you get what you want to take out. Backwards or is it just me? Anyway we sat down with a menu and decided what we wanted, looked up and there were about 15 people standing right near us almost on our knees waiting to order. Someone had made a pricing error and no one seemed to be being served. Up we got and wandered out. This takes absolutely nothing away from the quality of the food which is high but in order to purchase the goods I got muddled. And a muddled Grace on an empty belly isn't good.

I went into Chorlton this lunchtime with the aim of doing a large and healthy food shop, but then realised how starving I actually was. I have had bad experiences shopping on an empty stomach, so decided I'd pop into the nearest shop for a quick bite to eat... at least I thought it'd be quick! It was 4pm (I had had a late breakfast!) so understandably they had run out of everything savoury except from cheese and onion pasties and veggie sausage rolls. Luckily I'm a vegetarian and decided in a split second that I'd have the pasty. I was the only customer in there and there was one member of staff mopping the shop floor. She'd obviously seen me, but carried on mopping as if I wasn't there. After a couple of minutes her colleague appeared from behind the counter just as she had decided to put the mop down and serve me. Without a hello, goodbye or thank you I handed over my pound and picked up my pasty from the counter. At least it was warm and filling.
