But the best aspect is the downstairs bar area. Still smells a bit of paint as it's so new, but this is easy to get past. Stripped back and exposed brick, it's very cool. Obviously not somewhere to go on a sunny summers day, as there's no natural light! Decent selection of craft beer and spirits. Tuesdays are at the time of writing flatbread and 2 halves of beer for £10 which is great value. This will become a very regular haunt of mine, right on the doorstep. And it can definitely be included as part of the Harborne Run, if that's your jam...

Gotta say, 'Crusty Cottage' sounds more like a gag-inducing euphemism than the name of a…read moredrool-inducing bakery. Driven by hunger to cast such doubts aside, I went in and ordered a ham salad sandwich and one of the nice looking jam tarts in the window. Had a nice chat with one of the women behind the counter whilst my sandwich was being made. From what she was saying it sounds like this place deals more with big orders than passing trade. This makes sense as the shop is in a bit of an out-of-the-way location. Nevertheless, my sandwich was very cheap and very filling (helped by the thickness of the crusty bread) it also seemed to have been made using fresh ingredients, not days old salad or tomato. On the downside, the way the girl wrapped the jam tart in clingfilm meant that half the jam stuck to the clingfilm when I unwrapped it. The jam tart also appeared to have been home-made although the visible boxes of chocolate eclairs stacked behind the counter suggested this may not have been the case.

I have a major sweet tooth, and whilst I can't eat their delicious cakes I can buy them for other people. So whilst I'm buying Danishes and tarts for the other half, I'm buying myself the freshly made monster meringues. Worth treating yourself to some freshly baked classics and great bread as opposed to a cupcake every now and again. It's always nice to find a good local supplier that means you can bypass the supermarket and grab something freshly and locally made with good quality ingredients. They offer fresh bread, cakes, pasties, sandwiches and a great alternative for a nice lunch. Although the interior is quite small and there are only a few seats I'd recommend the food here to anyone. You can also buy their items for home use. I bought a whole bread loaf!! Although you pay a little more, the better tastier food, an alternative to the big supermarkets, and you know that your supporting a local grocer's using local sourced ingredients, its a win win all round. Pay them a visit!

The quality of food and staff here are great. I often roll in here on my way to visit friends who live in cradley after I've caught the train to town. The inside is large and has a mix of comfy sofas and traditional cafe tables and chairs. The whole place is well lit and furnished with cream and warm colours that instantly let's you forget you actually in the middle if a dead town. The jacket potatoes are crispy and the chili filling was some of the best chili I've ever had. I've been there a few times for breakfast and it's always been great with generous helpings of everything on the menu. The prices are the best part, a whole breakfast you could pay up to £7.00 in a city for is around £4.00. The charge a little more of you choose to eat n but it's still seriously under what you'd expect to pay to begin with. All in all a great cafe and cradley needs more businesses like this.

It was busy, so you could tell that it is a popular spot. It is set on the river that runs through the village so you can enjoy your breakfast while the water slowly flows by you. This area and the cafe are beautiful. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Even though they were very busy, they showed no signs of being annoyed or overwhelmed. They seemed genuinely happy you were there and eager to make sure you were happy with your stay. We ordered the sausage rolls and a Cornish pastry and they were very good. I'm sure there are a lot of amazing restaurants in the place, but you would not go wrong stoping by here to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

This little bakery was jammed with all kinds of bread, pastries and cookies. I selected a sticky bun type of thing with raisins and currants as well as a chocolate chip cookie. Both were fantastic. Everything is made fresh every day, and every lunch time there is a queue out of the door. Service is pretty fast as it's over the high, goody-filled counter, but it's always polite. The BLT sandwiches are salty and full of awesome, the fresh cream cakes are hard to resist, and the custard slices are cut far more neatly than mine at home. I'm not particularly fond of the chocolate numbers myself, if I'm tempted, I go for the rhubarb and cherry slices (super moist), and things like the Belgian buns are pretty snazzy too. A couple of things worth noting are- They have a slicing machine- so if there's any loaves you want, but are only capable of cutting diagonal doorsteps at home, they can deal with it. If you want a hot sausage or bacon sandwich for example, you're possibly going to have a little wait as they like to cook things fresh. If you ring in advance, you can avoid standing in the corner by the fridge of drinks for a short while.

All feature crisp crusts and great solid texture unlike the mushy industrial breads at the supermarkets. Their lunch sandwiches are a treat as well. The staff are friendly as well, but it can get very busy so a wait can be expected. The bread is a bit pricier than average at about £3 each, but you get what you pay for.
